Chapter 31: Request And Permission

CHAPTER 31 REQUEST AND PERMISSION

It was the day following Mercs final lesson with Rosemary, or two days after the Accolade. The Chiefs mansion was where Merc was right now.

Hey, Merc. Do you have some business with the Chief?

Jonahim?! You were still here?

Just as Merc was about to knock on the Chiefs mansions door, the mansions door opened, revealing the adventurer Jonahim. His sword was slung to his side, and he was dressed in everyday clothes. He didnt have on the armor hed worn when they went out to defeat the Ghezo Velche.

Given that the celebration had been two days ago, Merc was surprised to find him still here.

Should I have left? We chose to stay yesterday so that we could check up on the mountain in case there were any Velche left. Thankfully, there werent any, and when we were finished, the Chief invited us to spend another night, which we gladly accepted.

So youre leaving today?

Thats right. Were leaving around noon. Weve already gotten what we were supposed to get, and judging by the state of the village, I wont have any regrets about leaving.

I see

Merc deduced from Jonahims attire that he was on his way to patrol the village, but she was curious about the other two members of his party.

Are you curious about Elea and Luka? Elea, you see, drank yesterday and is still asleep. Despite being a light drinker, she has an excessive love for booze.

I see

Her getting drunk is pretty scandalous with her figure.

Mercs mind swirled with scandalous thoughts as images of Eleas drunken form, from the party the other day, surfaced in her mind. Fortunately, in this life, her body lacked the part that could react to those thoughts, so she simply cleared her throat awkwardly1.

Ahem. I understand. I presume youll be leaving alongside her when noon comes, right?

Thats right.

Then what about Luka?

Luka, huh Well, lets not talk about her. You dont need to worry about her.

Is that so?

Jonahim didnt seem to want to talk about Luka based on his behavior and the way he was attempting to dodge the subject.

Did they have a good time until late last night, and shes still sleeping because shes exhausted, or anything naughty like that?

Those were the kind of naughty thoughts that ran through Mercs head. However, it would be hard for her to ask that, so Merc, despite her curiosity, chose to respect Jonahims position and refrained from asking.

Say Jonahim, could you do me a favor?

Of course. After all, youre our savior; if it is anything I can do, Id gladly assist.

Youre over-exaggerating Nonetheless, in such case, Ill ask.

Merc remarked with a serious expression on her face and proceeded to bow her head.

Could you take me with you when you leave the village?

You want to leave the village? The Chief asked Merc.

That is correct.

Merc had come to the Chief after parting with Jonahim to inform him about her decision.

It would be unthinkable for anyone to leave the village before reaching adulthood, but Merc had already been approved by the Chief and had already undergone the Accolade, despite the fact that it was a simple one.

The Chief had no reason to refuse her.

Im familiar that you wish to leave the village. However, I never imagined that it would be this soon

Despite the fact that he had no reason to refuse her, the Chief appeared to be conflicted.

Youve shown yourself a warrior by defeating the Ghezo Velche. And I feel youll be able to hold your own in the real world. Your mentality, however, is still that of a 14-year-old2 You are still considered a child as an elf. You cant be sure you wont be seduced by sweet talk or mislead by evil thoughts.

My mentality is still 14, huh If I were to add my past life to this, Id say Im quite old by now.

Merc grinned to herself as those thoughts swirled within her head, then shook her head and spoke to the Chief.

Chief, one of the reasons I went to train with Miss Rosemary was to strengthen my mentality, as well. And it was just yesterday that my master gave me permission to leave her side.

What?! I dont have anything further to say now that the Fairy, Miss Rosemary, has given her approval. But werent you the one in charge of the livestocks care?

Those who were originally assigned to it are still here. Because of Masters request, they simply shared some of their work with me. They wont be bothered even if I leave.

I see

When Merc said that, she wasnt lying.

The livestock was usually looked for by the Alchemists and Healers who lived in the village. Merc had just taken over a portion of those peoples duties and had been doing it until now, thanks to Rosemarys support.

With Merc gone, the Healers would only get back the part that they had shared with her, thus there would be no issues. However, there would almost certainly be some.

Its not like they didnt take care of it before. Theyll just have to work as hard as they did before I showed up.

Merc thought.

Hmph. Okay then. Its not like I have any reason to stop you now that youve undergone the Accolade. Ill allow you to leave the village.

Thank you.

So? When are you leaving?

Ive heard that the adventurers are leaving at noon, thus Im planning to leave with them.

I see, I see Wait, what?! Doesnt that mean youll be leaving at noon?!

That is correct.

The Chief was completely shocked to learn the news. Even Merc had intended to make other preparations before departing, but because Blazing Impact was departing today, she had opted to accompany them.

After all, it had been a while since she had ventured into the human world. Traveling with individuals who were used to it would be reassuring for her.

Good grief, youre quite the crazy one. Well, since you said you wanted to leave the village and become an adventurer, Ive never thought of you as an ordinary elf. Ill allow it. Youre free to go.

Thank you.

Merc rose up and was about to leave after gaining the Chiefs approval when the Chief spoke to her again.

Merc.

Yes?

Since youre accompanying the adventures, could you please say something to their magician on my behalf?

The magician? Oh, you mean Luka?

Thats right. Could you please warn her not to sell questionable items to our residents the next time she comes to visit?

Its difficult for me to say this because they are our villages saviors. Still, it is not guaranteed that they wont visit again, so please tell her that, okay?

O-Okay

What in the world did she do? I somewhat understand why Jonahim avoided talking about her

Robinxen: That was a paragraph. Robinxen: Wow, how childish do you have to be to get seen as a mere child even though your mentality is that of an old man?
