Unlike normally Mai instantly awoke when she heard her roommate call out to her, excitement was clearly visible on her face as well as Venessas.

Outside on the usually empty practice field stood countless horse drawn carriages currently being organized by the countless teachers that would be accompanying the academies students, even as the sun had barely risen above the horizon they had been working for a while to undertake the momentous task that was the yearly expedition. But a lot of people normally present for the expedition were nowhere to be found, knights and monster hunters normally instrumental for such an operation were not needed this year, instead thin presences moved around the caravan, barely noticed by the most experienced mages and knights along the teachers.

"I think we're better off not knowing.. Anyway do you have the manifest for this carriage?"

Still even if some of the teachers that had noticed what was going around them, most of them knew not to stick their nose into things that should not be seen, after all they were experienced fighters that had lived way longer than the average in their professions. Having prepared for the trip the day before Mai and Vanessa quickly grabbed their already packed bags after waking up and made their way to the practice field were they to their surprise found Dax in what looked to be travel gear. Instead of the normal teacher uniform he normally wore Dax had the simple attire of a pair of black shorts with loads of pockets and a simple black t s.h.i.+rt that seemed to somehow fit him way better than the normal teachers uniform.

"Yeah I'm in charge of the first years that will be cooking and maintaining camp while you 2nd and 3rd years will be having cla.s.ses in the wilderness, so we might not see each other so much."

"I see.. Still having you with us on the trip will be very rea.s.suring."

Sensing that their teacher still had more things to do Vanessa quickly dragged her friend away after saying their initial greetings.

"Honestly that child.. She should just bother us adults as much as she wants, after all that is what childhood is."

After greeting Dax Vanessa and Mai joined up with Mare and made their way to the cla.s.ses carriage.

"Good morning girls!"

"Morning Rudy."

With his usual enthusiasm Rudy greeted the girls loudly before changing the topic like the energetic youth he was.

"Did you hear!? Lux is the teacher a.s.signed to us!"

Doing the academy expedition a teacher would be a.s.signed to each cla.s.s and be with them at all times, even when another instructor was teaching them something else, for security reasons.

"Of course."

The only one not surprised about that was Mare, having a bit of insider knowledge.

"That's how it is, sorry about that."

Having overheard their conversation Lux took a short break and went over to talk with her students, well most of her took a break.

"Umm Lux is there something different about you?"

The reason for Mai's increasing confusion was that Lux didn't stop her work even as she talked with the students that now just looked at her awestruck, with the exception of Mare of course. After getting the students of the cla.s.s she would be overseeing to board their carriage before she grouped up with Terra and Dax for a final pre mission briefing.

"Is everything in order?"

"Yeah."

Seeing the confidence in his student and subordinate Dax formed a thin smile that remained on his face for a fraction of a second before returning to the role of commander.

"Good, from this point onwards information blockade #4 is no longer in effect."

At Dax's command 4 Reaper drones emerged seemingly out of thin air around him taking up formation as they vented out extreme amounts of stored thermal energy from their internal heatsinks.

Picking up a rifle while she put on her facemask Lux was greatly amused by the surprised teachers.

Sensing Lux's smile from under her mask Dax returned the bloodthirsty smile as he was handed a rifle.
