128 Station Of The Ancients 4

Sure she had misheard Dax as he had trailed off at the end Solaris slowed her run slightly as she waited for his response.

"I said there are more of those monsters and some of them might already be on their way to block you off so don't f.u.c.king drop your speed!"

"Y-yes! SORRY!"

Being legitimately more afraid of Dax than the monstrosities made of decaying flesh Solaris doubled her pace as she remembered he was currently risking his own life until she escaped safely. At the same time Dax rapidly burned through the fuel for his reaction control system for simulating gravity so he could run faster in the low gravity as he directed the drones to split the attention of the numerous creatures chasing him.

"02 suppressive fire on target #7, 05 secure the room ahead for 09 and 04 then ambush following forces, move- s.h.i.+T!"

Realizing he was running in a somewhat predictable path at the last second Dax's hairs stood on up and he forcefully broke his posture mid run to dodge with the best of his ability as something tore into his side and created a large breach in his suit while cutting out a large part of his side.

"I f.u.c.kING KNEW IT!"

As his suit was pierced Dax felt most of his blood in in his gut evaporate due to the sudden and violent depressurizing as his exposed flesh flash froze and shattered like hot gla.s.s being flash cooled he gritted his teeth and endured the pain, for it would only last for a second. Feeling several of his cybernetic enhancements kick in Dax's open wound was covered in a layer of nanomachines that quickly hardened and formed a emergency seal. Being slightly lightheaded for a moment due to the bloodloss the amazing resilience of the pure blooded qiton kicked in and Dax reached into his equipment pouch and pulled out a string of grenades and armed a single one as he tossed them behind him without looking.

"Prepare for anti contamination surgery and prep a biohazard container in the CAS-7A please."

[DIRECTIVE CONFIRMED.]

"DAX! Are you okay!?"

Hearing the word 'surgery' pop up Solaris correctly a.s.sumed that Dax had been hurt.

"I'm fine, the damage is only to my core. I can still move! ICI time to drop down another level!"

[DIRECTIVE CONFIRMED, SETTING UP STANDARD TYPE 14 FRAME SHAPED CHARGE BREACHING CHARGE AT POINT BETA. SCUTTLING FIRETEAM 2 ON YOUR COMMAND.]

Seeing the shaped charge blow a hole down to the next level right in front of him Dax verbally turned the self destruct key on the 5 drones that were covering his rear, in an attempt to slow down the creatures chasing him if by only a moment.

"Enact denial protocol! Registration master key 044587356420!"

[DENIAL PROTOCOL CONFIRMED: DESTABILIZING AFFECTED REACTOR CORES, CRITICALITY ARCHIVED, TIME TO MELT DOWN: 5 SECONDS.]

In those 5 seconds Dax and the surviving drones managed to blast into a maintenance shaft and go down another level, while the Reaper drones 2 levels above ceased all primary functions while the magnetic containment field of each their primary power plants rapidly polarized, starting to act more like a match to a oil barrel than a safety net. Not all of them got to blow however, as all but one were instantly annihilated the moment they stopped moving and became easy targets, but a single Reaper drone managed to complete its final order with dignity, and that was plenty.

[5, 4, 3, 2, 1, MARK.]

Blowing up with the power to level a large city block the fusion meltdown instantly heated the air around it way past its ignition point and detonated it, creating a shockwave that traveled through the entire floor.

"What was that!?"

"Shut up and run, I'm running out of drones to stall with!"

Feeling the vibration of the explosion all the way at the bottom most level Solaris almost fell over, but was quickly motivated by Dax to keep up her efforts.

"That is an ugly motherf.u.c.ker, and what's worse I think I p.i.s.sed him off!"

Falling through the maintenance shaft Dax just managed to catch a glimpse of one of the creatures entering it 5 levels above. Recognizing it as the one that had tried to kill him first by the ominus chipped two handed sword it held Dax increased his own evasion speed to what could truly considered reckless as the monster sent more beams of its annihilating rays all the way down to him.

"He's definitely p.i.s.sed! Solaris what's your status!?"

"I'm on my way up the ramp now! I don't see the CAS-7A!"

"Up the ramp and it's on your left, get in immediately and lay down flat on the floor. After that it will immediately take off and open the distance to 5 clicks and hide behind the horizon."

"But!-"

"JUST DO IT I'M BUSY!"

Now on the bottom level Dax and the drones had a much harder time dodging attacks, due to the much more open construction compared to the narrow rooms and hallways in the levels above that had offered considerably shorter lines of sight. Dax felt his wound open again and tear as he twisted hard to narrowly dodge another attack by the creature that had managed to close all the way into a distance of 10 meters.

"I'm out!"

Having reached the CAS-7A outside Solaris did as Dax said and laid down flat on her back in the craft and was immediately secured like a piece of cargo by multiple automated metal wires and straps. With the VIP somewhat secure inside the craft the CAS-7A took off and immediately accelerated with a force in excess of 40 G, making Solaris pa.s.s out as blood veins all over her body started bursting. Lucky for Solaris the initial burn only lasted about 10 seconds before att.i.tude control thrusters took over and the CAS-7A glided as it flipped around just above the lunar surface and kicked up a large improvised smoke screen. Then came the comparably more gentle deceleration burn of 10 G where the craft hid in a surface crater now deep below the horizon from the station of the ancients. Now in cover the automated medical systems took over and robotic arm transported the unconscious Solaris from her temporary holding to a medical table where several small arms started cutting directly through her suit to stabilize her numerous injuries and sustain her brain function while healing could be done.

"s.h.i.+ts.h.i.+ths.h.i.+ts.h.i.+t!"

Dax meanwhile arguably had it worse. All his drones had been destroyed and he had sustained multiple grazing hits as he had finally reached the final room where the door to freedom tempted him as he was still chased by the creatures consisting of decaying flesh, cybernetic enhancements, fungi and runestones taking a form that contained multiple tentacles. Locating the gray parcel right where Dax had instructed Solaris to place it a small, nervously optimistic smile formed on his face.

"f.u.c.k IT! ICI TRIP GOALLINE AS SOON I CLEAR THE MINIMUM SAFETY SEPARATION!"

[DIRECTIVE CONFIRMED, USE OF DANGER CLOSE ACKNOWLEDGED. GOOD LUCK.]

Throwing defense and evasion to the wind Dax digged his feet into the stone floor below and set off, with such force that the solid stone floor outright shattered like rice cakes getting hit by a rocket powered sledgehammer.

"%!ZzZZQ&%R?!"

Letting out a unholy scream in response to its prey escaping the creature shot out its two handed sword that hit Dax and pierced him right through the chest as he pa.s.sed the gray parcel and cashed into then bounced off the upwards ramp on the opposite side of the airlock.

[GOALLINE Pa.s.sED, COMMAND UNRESPONSIVE. DETONATING… MARK.]

With a brief electrical buzz the gray parcel's detonator activated the so called 'shattering charge', spreading the thermobaric charge and allowing it to mix with the surrounding air. Igniting the fuel mixture a few nanoseconds after the fuel-air explosive's starting charge and the fine mixed grains of magnesium, aluminium and ethylene oxide created what could only be described as a weaponized dust explosion and created a violent shockwave together with a huge fireball. The effects on the surrounds where as expected. In the confined s.p.a.ce the blaze quickly created a overpressure that blasted Dax away, with only his extremely tough body keeping him from instantly liquefying. Blasted clean out of the access port as it collapsed Dax flew well over 4 kilometers in the frictionless environment before he was caught mid air by the CAS-7A that had matched its speed to him where he instantly was placed on life support inside.
