116 The Great Sea 3

With the last black operation soldier killed Dax turned his attention to his supposed primary target. She looked to be a little shorter than Terra, about a meter 70 tall with long gray white hair that glistened like a gemstone when light struk it. Her face and body had both been battered over what must have been months of abuse that had turned her skin rough and formed into a scale like structure that glistered the same way like her hair. Dax only noticed she also had small fin like protrusions on her hands that were also webbed, along with her larger than normal blue eyes that looked at him with awe indicated she must be from a race that lived in, near or surrounded by water.

".....Yes…."

Finally answering his question after a long while Dax wondered if her long time spent malnourishment had impaired her mental state.

"Excuse me."

Worried about her mental and physical state Dax walked closer to the still dazed woman and gently grasped her hand with his cybernetic one.

"You might feel a slight tickling sensation in your hand."

A moment of silence pa.s.sed between the 2 people as Opal's face got increasingly more red as she looked at Dax's hands that tenderly held her hand and made her completely blank out.

"I think I have that sensation already, all over."

"Huh?"

"EH!? I mean how do you know Abel!?"

Realizing she had accidentally spoken out loud Opal covered her face with the hand that was not held by Dax sitting in front of her as she hurriedly changed the subject.

"Sure, but I should properly tell you who I am first. My name is Dax, I'm a qiton of the Alpha 4 clan. My subordinates were attacked by soldiers belonging to the same faction belonging to the copses here, and subsequently wiped them out. When investigating their origin they stumbled onto Abel and put him under their protection, then today kind Abel decided to trust my subordinates with his story and we were able to quickly track you down."

"... Just like that?"

As expected skipping over a bunch of the details made the women in front of Dax were understandably suspicious of the total stranger in front of her. There was really nothing Dax could think of that would ease the woman's suspicion but instead just chose to be honest and direct.

"Not exactly, there are seval details I'm omitting both for the sake of time, but also confidentiality. I'll be completely blunt and honest with things that only contain to myself, but any information that could be used against my comrades I'm withholding as I can't trust you, yet."

Initially overwhelmed by the frankly brutal honesty of the 'qiton' in front of her, Opal was taken back as she increased her guard.

"That sure was honest... then please answer the questions I have for you, if you can't just remain silent."

"Sure."

Giving an immediate answer to what really amounted to a really rude demand increased Opal's guard as she took a more appropriate sitting position and adjusted her 'clothes', that amounted to little more than a dirty rag.

"Then first question, why are you touching my hand?"

"To check for injuries."

"Why are you checking for injuries?"

"To make sure you're okay."

"Why?"

"Because it would be kinda annoying having you bleeding out after we had gone to all the trouble getting you back to your brother."

"How did you find me so fast?"

"..."

With Dax remaining silent Opal found the first thing he had deemed cla.s.sified information. Why was that? Is it some kind of strange magic? If so it had to have some restrictions…. While Opal could spend countless hours asking those questions she would get no answered and therefore decided to press on.

"Where's Abel right now?"

"In the great sea, a unnamed atoll about 350 kilometers south of the Deltas kingdom."

"Is he-"

"Yeah he's fine."

Answering outright even before she finished the question Dax put on a rea.s.suring smile to try and ease worry, if it worked or not Dax had no idea.

".... Okay. Why are you doing this?"

"I've been really bored lately and figured a little exercise would help, it did not, they were way too easy."

"That's not what I meant."

"Because my adorable second in command asked me to."

Looking into the 'qiton' that saved her Opal looked into his eye for a moment and judged that he wouldn't go into more detail and dropped that topic.

"Where you from?"

"..."

This time Dax also didn't give an answer, but instead of keeping his up the poker face mask he had been wearing the entire time he showed a playful smile and simply pointed upwards.

"Now Abel's older sister you have 2 options before you. First is that after I treat your injuries and take you to the capital of the central Kingdom and leave you there under house arrest, second is you come with me after I treat your injuries and take you to a undisclosed location that I can confidently say is the safest place on the continent."

Being suddenly presented with options she was not completely prepared for Opal took a few seconds to think it over before she noticed an issue with both options.

"Wait, do you have to go with you?"

"Yeah. Now I'm going to take a bath in the nearby lake, please decide before then."

Seeing the matter as settled Dax rose to his feet and started to walk out the barn when Opal asked him a final question.

"And what if I decide that I would be better off declining your a.s.sistance?"

"I can also just tie you up and drag you away forcefully~"

---

"Your sister is safe."

With a large warm child like smile Lux announced the news Abel had been waited for over the last 36 minutes the child erupted in joy and hugged Lux as he spoke out sincere words of grat.i.tude.

"Thank you very much big sister Lux! Ah, sorry."

Before he realized what he had just did and hurriedly retreated from his hug as he started blus.h.i.+ng.

"Of course she's safe, after all it was Dax that went out personally…"

Speaking out words of praise acting needlessly proud like she herself was the one that saved Abel's sister Lilly seemed to realize something as she spoke out.

"If anything I feel slightly sorry for his opponents…"

"Yeah, he did say he had been quite bored lately and looked forward to some 'light exercise'..."

"They did definitely not go quietly into the night…"

Thinking back to her prior experience of having been trained by Dax, Terra's body started shaking as she recalled memories best forgotten.

"I can confirm they definitely did not.."

Coming to a similar conclusion Lux felt a chill down her back when she tried to imagine what Dax's opponents had went through in their last moments, and felt a slight sensation of pity, even if they had undoubtedly done something to deserve what they got.

"Rest in peace, no rest in pieces…. Well enough of that line of thinking, we need to figure out what to do now."

Forcefully changing the subject Terra decided to leave things that should not be taught about in the past.

"Isn't that simple? Just keep going, we still have a job to do."

"Lilly please keep quiet for a while… Lux can you take command?"

Choosing to outright ignore Lilly that did not see the bigger picture Terra turned to Lux.

"Sure, this is more my area of expertise, but I'll need your guidance when it comes to local conditions."

"I can do that. First of all we need to know the hostile presence in the area…"

"And a resupply is needed too, we're still hidden behind the horizon so it would be best to do that here, I'll call for a chariot."

"Wait what are we talking about here?"

Inevitably noticing that she was being spoken over, and it was a quite serious topic Lilly tired, no demanded to join the conversation, judging by the look in her eyes.

"Whatever has been f.u.c.king with us for a while have seized control of Abel's village, where the primary objective is also located. What's worse is that I'm betting they're not willing to give it up freely, and they most likely have hostages."

Realizing the problem that stood before them the colour drained from Lilly's face.

"W-what do we do then?"

Seeing Lilly's uncertainty Lux put on a bloodthirsty smile as she spoke with absolute confidence.

"It's simple, free Abel's home by completely slaughtering all hostiles."
