27 Encampmen

"Now where shall I start?" Isamu a.s.sumes a contemplating look, pondering on how he is going to initiate his story. "During my youth, I was taken in by the Warrior's Guild as they trained me in the finer combat arts and techniques but I was not exactly a member yet, merely a trainee, a Runt as what they call it. It was only a year ago when I officially become a member of the Guild, the same day when I reached level 10, the moment where I get to unveil the path that I'm going to take as I start my journey to greatness, hehe. Anyways, my colleagues in the guild suggest that I should take a Rogue Cla.s.s, fitting for my Race and high Dexterity. Of course, I disregarded their advice, for all my life, I've been waiting for this very moment, and I know exactly in the bottom of my heart at what Cla.s.s I'm going to choose, the Cla.s.s that I truly want."

"The

, right?" Gray states with a smile.

"Hehe, yes." Isamu nods with complete enthusiasm. "Going back when I was a Runt, our superiors would sometimes demonstrate their combat prowess as a valuable lesson to the whole guild by sparring in the training hall. Of course, the Guild Master, a

Cla.s.s Warrior like me, also joins in the fight. Sometimes, spars are made into team fights, a 4 versus 4 battle. During one fight, I was deeply in awe by the Guild Master's display of combat prowess, inspiring allies and demoralizing foes at the same time. As I witness his brilliant execution of movements and skills, I knew at that very day that I want to be someone like him, someone who can lead as well as strike fear into the heart of his enemies. Thus, beginning my path as a

."

As Isamu finally finishes his tale, Gray merely smiles at the Cat-folk and appreciates for being open with him.

"It's a nice story." Gray compliments Isamu. "You must really admire the Guild Master huh."

"Yes." Isamu agrees with the Elf's statement. "I always wanted to go on an adventure, carving a legacy of my own as the people will remember me for my deeds."

"With that att.i.tude?" Gray grins. "I'm sure you will."

"I appreciate it." Isamu gave a grateful look. "I thank you, my friend."

As Isamu's side of the story has finally concluded, both of them notice that it is getting pretty late. As such, they decided that it would be best to get a good night's sleep to replenish themselves in preparation for tomorrow's task.

Dawn befalls the land as the beauty of the sunrise greeted the pair first thing in the morning.

Opening their eyes, they were also notified by the System of granting them the

Buff.

For their breakfast, Gray procures 2 pieces of Rabbit Meat from his Inventory and roasted the meat on the fire. After cooking, Gray's eyes widen as a system notification materializes once more.

'Ehehe, so even Cooking in this game has a System of its own?' Gray sweatdrops, chuckling sheepishly. 'I guess I better be on the lookout for ingredients too. It wouldn't hurt to improve such useful skill.'

As the pair finished eating the Roasted Rabbit Meat, they secured the campsite and proceeded to make their way to the location of the Bandit Encampment.

After about 6 hours of trekking the valley, the pair halted as they finally arrived at a forest which is also a spot nearby the marker that was provided by the Bandit.

The surrounding vicinity indeed is filled with trees, a perfect place if one wishes to have their hideout situated around these parts.

"It appears we are near the Encampment," Isamu says in a low voice. "Even if I don't detect Bandits nearby with my scent, we should still tread lightly."

Gray nods in understanding, remembering that the Cat-folk also has the racial ability of

, granting them the skill of detecting nearby friends or enemies.

Both of them now felt alarmed and are on the lookout all over their surroundings.

With quiet footsteps, they didn't encounter anything out of the ordinary so far, proceeding ahead with utmost caution towards the direction of the marker as they navigate themselves into the forest.

In a short while, Isamu stops on his tracks as he promptly raises his hand for Gray to do the same.

"The scent is getting stronger here. "Isamu warns the Elf with a grim look as he points to where it is. "This way."

Gray complies as he follows the Cat-folk warily. Their efforts led them outside of the forest as they hid in the bushes.

Both of them witness a large clearing with a huge campsite at the center. Upon taking a closer observation from their hiding spot, the actual camp inside is barred from their sights as it is surrounded by tall wooden walls circularly.

"Heh, it seems that our dead Bandit friend spoke the truth," Isamu smirks in triumphant, seeing two Bandits guarding the entrance of the Encampment.

"Yes." Gray nods in acknowledgment. "All that is left is to report this to the Warrior's Guild."

"You've got that right," Isamu replied in agreement as he faces the Elf. But then, his cat ears twitch as Isamu's expression slowly turns serious and begun focusing on the two Bandits who are talking with one another.

Gray wonders what his Cat-folk partner is up to but decided to remain quiet for the time being.

Thanks to the inherent sharp hearing senses of the Cat-folk race, Isamu was able to discern what the two Bandits' conversation is despite being from a significant distance from them, unlike Gray who could only hear bits of words and chuckles.

"Hehe, so what the boss said is true right?" One of the Bandits asks his fellow guard.

"Yes." His companion nodded with a mischievous grin. "We are to leave first thing tomorrow morning and attack that small village to the south. What's the village's name again?"

"Oakwood." The Bandit answered as he groans in annoyance. "Ah, no rest for us then? Such a f.u.c.king bother!!"

"Boss is going to bash your skull with his Warhammer if he hears you complaining like a p.u.s.s.y you know." The other Bandit crosses his arms in annoyance.

What the Cat-folk heard is no good certainly, evident by his increasingly angered look, trying his hardest to prevent the rage from boiling within but fails as each second pa.s.ses by.

"What's wrong, Isamu?" Gray asks him with concern as he followed Isamu standing up and retreating behind far away inside the forest for them to talk.

Now at a safe spot away from the Encampment, Isamu punches a nearby tree in unadulterated fury, causing a visible crack on the trunk.

"Those wretched b.a.s.t.a.r.ds!!" Isamu gritted his sharp fangs and clenches his fist. "If what I heard from those Bandits are true, then they plan to leave the next day and attack the village of Oakwood."

"What?!" Gray's eyes widen in astonishment. "The next night you say?! Chadena is a long distance away from here and the moment we finish our reporting to the Guild, Oakwood is already done for!!"

"Kah!! don't you think I know that?!" Isamu retaliates with a hiss. "But what can we possibly do? Like you said yesterday, it's just us two against all of them. We just can't barge right in and convince them to stop their invasion."

"Convince," Gray utters the word as he rubs his chin, trying to calm himself down as an idea, no matter how crazy it is, suddenly enters his mind.

'I'm not sure if this is going to work.' Gray thought with a grave look. 'I sure sincerely hope that my years of playing RPG is going to come handy in this troublesome situation.'

Oakwood Village is the very first settlement that he visited in his time here in Silverhart. The villagers are also good and simple people who rely on the bounties of honest agriculture for a living.

A determined look graces his face as he remembers the gracious hospitality that the Mills Family has provided for him, the playful expressions of the children as they played tag together in the village square, the welcoming Village Head who is nothing but kind, and of course, the villagers as they all greet him with absolute joy and grat.i.tude whenever he pa.s.ses by.

And no way in h.e.l.l is he going to abandon them.
