286 A Race?

Liam ran a hand on his face before he turned to Becca, "I'm so sorry… I didn't know that she was going to come here." He watched as her eyes flickered across the floor as though she was recalling what just happened. He bit his lip, feeling very apologetic.

"Your mom…" Becca placed her hands over her mouth and gasped, "Oh my G.o.d! Liam, how embarra.s.sing!"

He moved closer and wrapped his arms around her, his hand patting her head. "Let's get dressed and say hi." He resigned as he did not know what else to say at that point.

Becca pushed him gently and her eyes widened in fright, "I can't possibly go out there and see her again! I can't!" She panicked.

"You'll be fine. My mom is… she's a nice person. She won't bite, I promise."

Even though Liam had a.s.sured her, her heart was too frightened to go out and meet his mother. She had never met any of her ex's mothers before and this was definitely a very memorable first meeting. How could she possibly feel at ease?

Seeing the look on her face, Liam knew that it was too soon for them to formally meet but since the situation turned out like so, it was only appropriate for her to meet his mother… wasn't it?

He quickly b.u.t.toned his pants, picked up his s.h.i.+rt and wore it. "Why don't I go out first? You get changed and I'll wait for you outside… take your time."

Becca just looked at him without saying anything. She saw him smile at her before he laid a kiss on her forehead and walked out of the room.

The moment that she was left alone, she slumped on the bed and dove her head onto a pillow. "Aaaah!!!" She screamed on it, her voice m.u.f.fled. "What the actual fûck!" She cursed.

She stayed hidden and quiet for about five minutes before she decided to stand up and compose herself. She wanted to take a shower first as she felt sticky with her underwear still wet. 'd.a.m.n being spontaneous!' She swore that she was going to catch a cold like this but she couldn't possibly delay anymore.

Walking towards the bathroom, she quickly brushed her disheveled hair away from her face. She fixed her dress, zipping the back closure hastily.

"Aww! Darn it!" She hissed when the zipper caught her skin, she was too stressed to calm down.

After finally looking a little more presentable, she stared at herself in the mirror and chanted, "You're fûcked, Becca Wise." She exhaled a breath and headed towards the door.

"Did you find what you were looking for?" Liam asked his mother as he poured tea on a cup and served it to her.

"Yes, it was just in the cupboard. Aren't you going to visit your sister-in-law in the hospital?" Mother Cho asked. She was standing on the kitchen with Liam, her eyes twinkled when she noticed Becca walking towards them.

"We're going tomorrow," he answered.

"Good evening, Mrs. Cho. My name's Becca Wise, it's… nice to meet you, again." Becca forced a smile on her as she extended her hand forward.

Mother Cho received her hand and shook it; the smile on her face was so bright, Becca swore that she was almost blinded by it. Why was his mother looking so pleased? "Likewise, dear."

The two of them chatted for a bit about what Becca does for a living and how she met her son.

"Oh… right! You're friends with my daughter-in-law Samantha! That's great!" She exclaimed. "I knew that she was going to bring luck to the family! Looks like you guys are going to have a race now!"

"I'm sorry, what?" Becca had a perplexed expression, unsure of what Liam's mother was referring to. Were they talking about car racing? 'But I don't race...?' Becca wondered.

Liam who was already used to his mom's nagging, he was sure that she was referring to having grandchildren. He shook his head and placed his hands on his mother's shoulders, "Mom, aren't you supposed to leave already? You're going to miss the visiting window hours in the hospital."

"Why are you in a hurry to kick me out?" Mother Cho protested.

"You know, your mother can stay… you two should talk more, I'll leave first instead." Becca interrupted, anxious that his mother might think that she was also in a hurry to let her leave.

Upon hearing Becca's words, Mother Cho suddenly straightened up. "Oh no, you don't have to leave, dear. You should stay here for the night, I need to go anyway." She gathered her things and started walked towards the door.

"Oh…" Becca could only mutter.

Liam followed her from behind and before his mother exited his unit, she turned around and chided, "How could you keep this a secret from me! You should invite her for dinner one night. Your father would be happy to meet your girlfriend."

Liam stopped himself from rolling his eyes at her, "Let's talk about this next time."

"All right, I'll be going. Good luck, son!" Mother Cho said before she left.

'What luck, mother?' He sneered in his head.

"Bye, Mrs. Cho!" Becca said from across the room.

Closing the door of his condo unit, Liam leaned his forehead on it and sighed. His mother was sometimes too much to handle. He then understood how his brother feels whenever she nags, hurrying them to have grandchildren.

Becca stood awkwardly in the kitchen, s.h.i.+fting her weight as she waited for Liam to come back. She watched his back and was again feeling nervous.

Turning around, Liam walked back to her side and stared into her eyes apologetically. "So…"

Shrugging her shoulders, "Well…"

"Do you really want to leave?"

Pursing her lips, she shook her head in response. "No… but… I don't think… I mean… the mood is already kinda ruined."

Liam sheepishly rubbed his nape, silently cursing himself that they got interrupted. "Yeah…"

The two of them stayed silent while they wondered what could've happened if they had not been disrupted. A blush crept on Becca's cheeks, making her adorable that Liam couldn't resist but kiss her forehead. "I will make it up to you. Let's make that night a special one."

The corners of her mouth lifted up, showing her pearly whites to him. Her hands slid up from his chest to the back of his neck, tiptoeing to kiss him in the lips. "I'm looking forward to it."

"Good. You should go and change your clothes or else you'd get sick."

…

Two days later at The Busy Bean Cafe

"That really happened? Oh my G.o.d, I don't know if I'll ever recover if that happened to me!" Samantha snickered before drinking her warm cup of tea. She found it very funny as she imagined the look on their faces and how her mother-in-law must have been so shocked to see her precious son almost ready for a s.e.xy night. That must have been hilarious!

"I know!!! Until now, I still wanna crawl into a tiny cave and live there forever!" Becca replied, slumping on her seat.

"I don't know how you girls are both so unlucky with timing!" Samantha laughed some more, "You're just like Hannah."

"Hey!!! I've been so quiet in here so that you won't mention that about me, S!" Hannah complained, her face was growing red in embarra.s.sment.

"Wait… wait… did something similar happen to you? Who? When? Where? How? Why?" Becca got so enthusiastic when she learned that Hannah had also experienced the same thing.

Hannah looked at Becca's waiting expression and sighed in defeat. "Okay fine! The first one was…" She swallowed and looked down on the floor, "well… it was with Joon."

"Oh don't worry about it… I don't really care about that anymore. So come on! Spill!"

"Also, it happened to her twice," Samantha casually added making Hannah blush some more.

"What the h.e.l.l!" Becca exclaimed, "How did that happen?"

"Well… the first one, Daniel walked in on us while we were kissing in the… in… the Cliffside Villa's wine cellar."

Becca burst out laughing when she imagined what happened. Knowing Daniel Cho, that must have been pretty awkward for the three of them. "What's the second one?" She wiped a tear from too much laughing.

Hannah swallowed and continued, "Well… a few weeks after that…" She told the story about how she wanted to confess to Seo Joon so she barged inside his office without looking around first. She blabbered and just suddenly kissed him without knowing that his mother was in the room with them.

Hannah covered her face with her hands as she recalled the incident. Until now, it was still too embarra.s.sing for her. Samantha and Becca giggled at the silly circ.u.mstances.

Becca let out a sigh, feeling a little bit better after listening to Hannah. "Well, I don't think it's more embarra.s.sing than what happened to me… but still, good to know that I'm not alone."

"Dear G.o.d, I'm so glad nothing like that ever happened to me." Samantha shook her head, thankful that she had not experienced such things.

Becca snorted, "Ha! Hunny, if that happens to you... we'll be the first ones to laugh!"
