221 Brave Grandfather Cho

Grandfather Cho did most of the talking while Samantha listened and contributed some of her memories with her grandmother when she was young.

He was also entertained by her stories and sometimes asked further questions. It was just like that night during Cho Corporation's anniversary when they first met where they had fun just talking about things in a carefree manner.

After a laugh, both of them became quiet until Grandfather Cho started, "Was she… happy?" He asked the only question that he had always wanted to know and the only thing that mattered most, "Did your grandfather treat her well?"

Samantha felt a lump in her throat. Why is this question suddenly making it so hard for her to respond? She knew the answer, and it was easy. But it was something very important for him.

She swallowed before she finally nodded — a slight smile formed on her face. "Yes, she was very happy. And yes, my grandfather is a very good man. He had always treated her very well, especially in her last years."

He sighed upon hearing her answer. "That's good. That's good."

Samantha smiled more but when she thought that it was the only thing that he wanted to say, he added some more.

"I hated that guy. How dare he come to me and ask me to make that necklace for him?" He scowled at the thought Samantha's grandfather, his brows furrowed and his face expressed annoyance but it only made him look adorable.

Samantha nearly laughed at the sight but she reminded herself not to, so she bit her lip. Instead, she allowed him to rant for a while.

"That b.a.s.t.a.r.d. Should he not have known who I was first?"

Grandfather, should you not have known who he was too?

"He was a sweet talker, that guy! He had this very nice sketch of what he wanted to do with stone. Tch!"

Samantha did not know whether to laugh or cry because of his statement. 'Grandfather, are you giving him a compliment or are you giving him a criticism?' She wondered.

He went on for a few more remarks before he paused to drink his tea and eat some carrot cake.

Grandfather Cho took a small piece of the cake in front of him and ate it.

Noticing that there was still a lot left on his plate, "How is your cake, Grandfather?" She asked as she ate hers — they had ordered the same flavor.

He grimaced a little while the cake was in his mouth. "It is very sweet. I don't think I can finish this. I never liked their cakes in here anyway as they have always been sweet. I only came in for coffee or tea before."

Samantha tilted her head as she listened to him and then looked at her cake. She did not think that it was very sweet at all. Although she had only eaten a very small portion of it since earlier, she find that it was actually quite bland.

"Really?" She asked while she took another small portion and placed it in her mouth. But it was still the same as the first time. She touched her mouth lightly with her fingers as she chewed the cake. 'That's weird… is Grandfather very sensitive of sweet things?' She thought.

"What's wrong?" He probed when he noticed that Samantha was caught up with her thoughts.

"Oh, I just find the cake tasteless." She replied.

"What?" He laughed at her comment. "You are unique, it is very sweet for me and yet you find it tasteless."

Their conversation was interrupted when Grandfather Cho's phone rang. Fis.h.i.+ng it out of his suit jacket, he answered the call as soon as he saw that it was Mr. Jiang. "Mm."

"What?! Why is he there now? He did not even say that he was coming! That old sly!" He sneered.

The call ended and he used his cane to support himself when he stood up. "We must go, my friend suddenly arrived at home and had been waiting for over an hour."

He took out his wallet and was about to take out some bills to pay for their orders but Samantha stopped him, she placed a hand on his arm, "Grandfather, I already paid for it."

"Ah. You are too quick, I did not even notice. When did you do that?" He started to walk towards the door, simultaneously putting back his wallet. Samantha followed and walked beside him.

When they exited the cafe, they found Mr. Jiang standing outside waiting for them.

"We are quite far from the house right now, if we travel back it will take us a while to arrive. What did you tell him?" Grandfather Cho asked right away.

"I already told him that we are in the city center but even so, he insisted on waiting for you."

Seeing that there was nothing else that he could do, he sighed and then turned to Samantha. "Thank you for the tea, I will have to leave before you." He said before he walked away.

Samantha bit her lip as she fought the urge to offer him something that he might not be willing to accept. Despite her thoughts debating, she pushed through with it.

"Wait!" She caught up to them making them stop and face her. "Grandfather, why don't I drive you back home?" She proposed, fiddling her hands.

Grandfather Cho's brows furrowed as he looked at his daughter-in-law and then his gaze s.h.i.+fted towards the black Bugatti parked just a few meters away.

"I mean… only if you're okay with me driving fast…" She added.

He faced Mr. Jiang and spoke with an a.s.sertive expression, "I will meet you there. You men follow us."

Turning around, he started walking towards the luxury sports car — leaving Samantha excited with his decision and Mr. Jiang shocked by his braveness.

"What are you waiting for? Chop Chop!" Grandfather Cho said with urgency as he stood beside Samantha's car.
