I tucked my head under Echo's chin and closed my eyes. For a moment, I listened to his heart. He'd brought me home, then left to talk to his Grimnir buddies. Not only had he made up with his Druid brothers and sisters, he'd bridged a gap between him and the rest of the Grimnirs. So what they had lost Maliina months ago? She was finally gone. Taken up permanent residency on Hel's little island of the damned. Good riddance.

"What are we going to do about Dev?" I asked.

"Don't care."

I lifted my head. "You didn't reap him, did you?"

"No." I thought he was done talking, but then he added, "He's decided to join the Valkyrie."

He was being vague. Not a good sign. "We know several Valkyries, Echo. Which one?"

"Your teacher." He lifted my chin and claimed my lips in an attempt to silence me, or maybe he was just bored with the topic.

I let him distract me, but not for long. I needed answers. I turned my head and broke the kiss. "Did she explain why?" My voice was breathless, which earned me a smug grin from Echo. "Did she?"

"We didn't talk."

I heard a 'but' in his voice. "Yes?"

"He always lands on his feet, the conniving bastard," Echo growled.

"Dev is not conniving. He's charming. What happened?"

"Torin said your teacher is starting a school for witches, or future Valkyries and Grimnirs, and Dev has somehow been invited to join her staff. I don't know how he does it, but he can sell sand to desert people."

I laughed. "Yes! I knew I had her. And stop being so hard on Dev. He's going to be an awesome teacher. Probably make all the witches fall in love with him."

"What do you mean you had her?"

"I suggested it while you were away sulking. Dev knows everything about dark souls-their strengths and weaknesses, how to fight them off or contain them. I mean, he's a dark soul who strayed and found his way back. Did he tell you how he helps those dying-?"

Echo cut off my question with a kiss. "I don't care," he whispered against my lips. "He's no longer my problem. But you, my lovely mate and future wife, are mine. One I carry willingly." He kissed me and the subject of Dev was forgotten.
