606 True Power

For a while, our strategy is for treant to pester the toads with a few [Clay Spheres], then for Aro to finish them off. In this way, he manages to raise his level a little.

His stats are much higher than at the start, but his MP is almost all gone. Neither evolving or levelling up restores MP, so he was already running low before we began.

I escape to a high branch of a noroi tree. Roots stretch from the treants spirit body and cling to my body. Its the [Take Root] skill that hes had for ages.

You can still use it as a tree spirit then?

I murmur as I look over his status. His other stats have increased too, but his defence has already reached 1120. I havent seen many monsters that are this specialised for defence.

Hes almost at the point of not taking any damage from the plague toads attacks. Hes no longer a half-hearted endurance type, but a full-on tank. His level is still only 36, so hes only going to keep getting tougher from here on.

Butthis toughness is coming at a cost of having only an attack of 309. Even though hes rank Well, I suppose it doesnt matter as long as he doesnt rely on physical attacks. If there was ever a fight between two world treants, it would be a terrifyingly slow slug fest. It would take hundreds of years to reach a conclusion

Im almost finished

As treant says that, I see something flying up at us from below. Its a plague frog.

I recoil away from it. The plague toad spits out a spray of poison, but Aros [Gale] blows it away.

Ngeh!

The plague frog is blown off course and falls back down to the ground. It seems it was trying to reach us with [High Jump]. It only acts like a frog when it counts, huh.

Looking around, I see more of them hopping towards us. The base of the tree is covered in squirming plague toads. These guystheyre quite numerous. If the treant were to drop down now, he should be able to take out a huge number of them.

Treant, do you wanna do it? At minimum, you should be able to crush four of them. Your level will increase a lot.

Yes! Leave it to me!

I kick off the branch and fly up. Hes so big as a world treant that its hard to know where to drop him from. At a height that the origin matter wont see us I also want to end it quickly so the ymir wont find us either. Once Ive risen to an altitude of about twice the height of the trees, I throw the treant out into the air.

Do it! Treant!

He immediately returns to his world treant form. This will be his first [Meteor Stamp] with this body.

His giant metal body produces a thunderous roar as it plummets through the air. The ground shakes massively as he impacts it, and six plague toads are crushed beneath his roots. The noise is so loud that I cover my ears with my forelegs.

Its strong, but we cant really use it here.

Yeah.

Aro agrees, looking down at the scene of carnage. Theres no doubt this will draw some dangerous monsters towards us.

We probably cant even use it in our previous world. At the very least, if we were to use it on a continent with people, it would cause a massive incident each time.

I-I cant move

Treant is defenceless and buried in the ground. The ground around his roots crumbles away, and a plague toad emerges. We had to fly rather high up to drop him, so were still far from the ground.

Ah! We need to hurry and pick him up!

Panicking slightly, I hurry down. And yet, even though the hes bitten by plague frogs and slapped by their tongues, the treants taking hardly any damage. It seems his defence has risen to the point of completely shutting out their attacks.

I can do this actually!

The treant swings a branch, shooting out several bright green seeds into one of the toads. Its [Death God Seed].

A few seconds later, the plague toad suddenly stops moving.

Veeh! Veeh! Beh!

Its skin bulges as something pushes from inside. A few violent convulsions later, a wooden branch bursts out, destroying the plague toad in an explosion of poisonous blood and gore. Th-thats grim

His level has risen, and he was much closer to it than when we were flying. Thats probably why it happened so fast.

Geeh!

The lunge of another plague toad is blocked by a branch covered in [Woven Armour].

[Wood Counter]!

The treants body bends, and his heavy [Woven Armour]-covered branch crushes the plague frog.

Obeeh!

Huh, hes genuinely strong!

Way to go, treant!

Did you see that, master-dono! I did it!

Hes in high spirits. It used to be unimaginable that he would overwhelm multiple B+ rank opponents like this. His hard work is finally paying off.

I wanted to level up a bit more too

Aro mutters.

As I watch over the treant with a wry smile, a distant thudding sound reaches my ears. At first I dont pay it any attention, but the gap between the thuds shortens, and they get louder. I look in the direction of the sounds, and see the ymir hurtling towards us from far away.

I took us quite far away from it, and yet its still chasing! It was a bad idea to use [Meteor Stamp] after all.

Fufu, theres nothing I have to fear now! My level might just surpass Aro-donos at this rate!

Treants says, playfully pounding away at the toads.

Treant! We need to run! Its the ymir! The ymir is coming!

R-really!? Master-dono! Please pick me up!

Hurry up and use [Tree Spiritisation]! We havent got the time to see if I can carry you like that!

I hurriedly pick up the tree spirit treant, and flee using [Roll].
