Chapter 173. Betrayal of Trust (5)

I had tears in my eyes.

“We can’t let the Small Stone Guild’s sacrifice be in vain!”

When my voice spread because of the voice amplification magic, I thought the soldiers would pull themselves together rather than be shaken by it. A few thought about the possibility of them dying like the Small Stone Guild, but they didn’t seem like they would run away. I was sure they hadn’t heard the screams of the Small Stone Guild since they were busy fighting monsters in contrast to me observing the situation with the help of magic.

The way Song Jung-Wook cursed at me and struggled while fighting a monster was a beautiful ending you would see only in movies. The Small Stone Guild and Song Jung-Wook fought for Castle Rock until they breathed their last. They were the best heroes this defense war created.

‘You can play the hero all you want, Jung-Wook.’

It should be fine to talk about their performance on the first wall, as I had no intention of becoming a hero.

‘It’s better to just survive.’

As one of the guilds representing Castle Rock, the troops would naturally be moved by the Small Stone Guild’s sacrifice, and I noticed more and more people agreeing with me.

“Don’t let the Small Stone Guild’s sacrifice be in vain!”

“You dirty monsters! Bastards!”

“Let’s protect our hometown!”

The troops became energetic as if they had received a buff, as the archers continued to fire their arrows, the warriors fought with their swords, and the priests continued to use their holy powers. It was time for me to set an example, so I started casting a spell.

It was time to show the dirty monsters how powerful Castle Rock was when everyone was united.

“Let’s protect Castle Rock!”

‘Hahahaha…’

Jung Ha-Yan must’ve felt my mana because she started casting as well, and if we combined our mana, we should be able to inflict great damage on those monsters.

‘I should be able to get lots of experience points.’

The catalyst that had reformed into a hand appeared in the sky, and in addition to its growth, it was also becoming more powerful thanks to Jung Ha-Yan’s magic infusion.

Boom!

The monsters on the first wall were killed, and there had to be a few Small Stone Guild members there. However, a small sacrifice had to be done for the greater good. The hand continued to grow, and the person behind its growth was obvious.

‘Ha-Yan!’

Booooooom!

Craaaaaaaack!

“Rooooooooar!”

‘Nice!’

Even though I couldn’t hear my experience points rising, I knew that hundreds of monsters must have died after being buried beneath the rubble of the wall that had been destroyed.

[A few jobs have opened. Please select the job you think you need.]

‘Already?’

Growth was more difficult the higher your rank, so this was a huge achievement. I couldn’t help but smile because even though I knew I killed a lot of monsters, I didn’t expect that new jobs would open up. Cha Hee-Ra must’ve seen my expression because she started talking.

“Got a new job?”

“Yeah. I didn’t think I’d get it so quickly,” I replied.

“How many jobs have you changed into, darling?” she asked.

“This will be the fourth,” I replied.

“I think you got a good amount of experience just now, but that was fast… The experience points you earned during the Ito Sota incident must have contributed as well. Combat usually gives the most experience points, but you do get experience points in all of your actions. You can think more about your job after the wave is cleared because you’ll still accumulate experience points,” she explained.

“Thanks for the tip,” I responded with a smile.

“It’s a known fact, and you have to calm down,” Cha Hee-Ra advised.

“I know. Let’s focus our firepower on the first wall! It’s Song Jung-Wook’s final message—the final message of the Small Stone Guild’s Guildmaster!”

Of course, he never said anything like that.

“We mustn't let Mr. Song Jung-Wook’s wish to protect Castle Rock disappear in vain! Everyone! Hang on just a little longer. We can’t protect anything without sacrifice. That’s why Mr. Song Jung-Wook fought until the end on the first wall and sacrificed himself! Let’s all fight together for the hero that died while protecting Castle Rock! Everyone, fire!” I yelled.

There could be survivors on the first wall...

The Small Stone Guild lasted longer than my expectations, but they had also aggroed the monsters. So many arrows and spells landed on those monsters that I couldn’t count them anymore.

Booooooooooooom!

Craaaaaaaack!

Using fire magic was worth it, as some monsters turned to ashes while the small monsters directly exploded after being unable to endure the explosions around them.

‘Nice…’

“Kyaaaaaaaaaaah!”

“Rooooooooooar!”

The monsters landed on the other monsters as they struggled and fell from the wall, and even though it only lasted for a moment, a large hole had formed on the ground where the monsters had gathered. There were monsters filling that hole, but they obviously had to endure a lot of damage.

‘It’s all thanks to Song Jung-Wook…’

I couldn’t help but thank the dead bastard while smiling.

“This could be easier than I thought…”

What Cha Hee-Ra said was an undeniable fact, as our allies were driving out the monsters even though there were epic-ranked monsters in the wave. When the monsters climbed the walls, a guild’s executive member or a clan master would mark them, and our Blue Guild was one of the guilds doing that. The way Kim Hyun-Sung was jumping from wall to wall, and killing the monsters made him look like a god. I wasn’t sure how he had managed to cut off a large monster’s head with one stroke of his sword, but our regressor was doing a lot on his own.

‘Even Kim Ye-Ri…’

The same could be said about Jung Ha-Yan, Hwang Jung-Yeon, and Sun Hee-Young. Hwang Jung-Yeon was working hard to support Jung Ha-Yan’s magic while Sun Hee-Young was spreading holy magic all over the place. Park Deok-Gu was the only normal member of our party, but he was still doing his part. I finally realized how much influence a well-trained, and competent party could have on a battlefield.

‘We’ve grown a lot.’

A person wearing the Red Mercenary Guild’s badge quickly came toward us.

“Miss Cha Hee-Ra...”

“Has it been taken care of?” she asked.

“Yes. We’ve acquired all the items from the underground auction house as per your orders, and we also discovered the source of the monster’s cry earlier,” they replied.

“Report,” she ordered.

“It came from an egg in the Small Stone Guild’s warehouse, but it’s nothing like we’ve seen before…” they answered.

“What?”

“It’s a monster we’ve never seen before. After occupying the Small Stone Guild house, we’ve been acquiring new recruits, but… I think you should come and see for yourself. It could be—”

‘Huh?’

“It could be the reason why this monster wave happened…” I said, finishing their sentence.

I saw them nodding.

‘I knew it…’

I couldn’t help but get a headache when my casual assumption turned out to be right. If the monster wave did start all because of a monster egg, then we may have to fight against its parents, and Cha Hee-Ra must’ve thought the same since she quietly looked toward the walls.

“Did you find out where they got the egg from?” she asked.

“We questioned the person in charge of the guild’s warehouse, but they only said that they found it deep in the forest,” they answered.

“Huh… crazy bastards. Taking a monster’s egg is not only illegal, but it’s also a taboo. I knew they’ve been doing illegal work, but I had never imagined they were this dumb… At this point, I’m starting to think that they died very comfortably…”

“Then the monster wave…”

“It probably happened because of the baby. It makes sense now. Now, I understand what their guild master found, and that cry is what started the wave…” she explained.

“Are we in a dangerous situation?” I asked.

Of course, this was dangerous.

“No, it won’t be a big problem. For now… I think it’ll be best if you go and check it out, darling. I should get rid of the small fries before the main monster appears. Don’t worry too much. It’s just one more thing we need to take care of…”

I was a bit flustered when Cha Hee-Ra said that she was going to fight, as it meant the situation was becoming tense.

“I’ll be back,” she added.

“Okay,” I could only reply.

She jumped down the wall after casually waving to me, and when I glanced at the Red Mercenary Guild member, they immediately spoke. “She’ll feel more comfortable fighting alone.”

“I see…”

“The master becomes excited pretty often when she’s focused… I guess you could say she goes berserk,” they added.

I knew that much thanks to her attribute.

[Attribute - Madwoman Crazy About Blood - Epic Rank]

[Lowers her intelligence temporarily to increase her attack power.]

I wasn’t sure whether the decrease affected her intelligence stat, or if it was her intelligence. Her attribute probably made Cha Hee-Ra the person she was today, as her strength stat was 97, and if her attack increased, she would basically be a god.

Riiiiip!

Boooooooom!

When I looked down, the monsters were being torn apart, and although she currently looked calm while killing the monsters, I could see her slow transformation into a beast. The way she jumped on top of an epic-ranked monster, and ripped off its jaw with her hand before ripping its head off made her look like an actual monster.

‘She’s strong…’

I knew that people similar to Ito Sota were strong, but Cha Hee-Ra was a lot stronger than I had expected.

To be honest… I was kind of scared. She definitely didn’t seem like she was in her right mind when she smiled while covered in monster entrails.

‘Scary…’

Cha Hee-Ra’s bloodthirsty eyes landed on top of the wall.

“Huh?”

I wasn’t imagining it. I didn’t know why she was staring at me, but she was smiling while holding a monster’s head. Cha Hee-Ra was mad.

‘No way…’

[Checking Player Cha Hee-Ra’s Unique Habit.]

[Instinctive Lioness]

‘No way…’

When Cha Hee-Ra suddenly charged toward me, I knew that something was definitely wrong.

“Shit! Run!” I cried out.

I didn’t know why, but Cha Hee-Ra was definitely chasing me.
