387 Revenge 388: Wouldn't It Be Fair

"I will take responsibility for it," Martha said indifferently. She does not care what other people think of her. All she wants is for her suggestion to be granted by Marcus. "So, will you allow it or not?" She asked Marcus.

"As his father, I will allow it without any hesitation, however, I am also the patriarch of this family. The decision the I make will affect everyone's opinion of me. I'm asking you, Martha, how are you gonna take responsibility for this?" For the first time, Marcus really hates the fact that he is the patriarch of the family. He can't freely make a decision that he wants without considering other family member's opinion.

"I will give up my position as one of the elders in this family." That sudden remark startled everyone in the room, even Marcus is doubting if he heard Martha clearly.

"No! I disapproved of this!" Said one of the elders, "You're going this far just to make James stay in the family? Are you even paying attention earlier? James Coleman is the one who started this nonsensical revolt against Marcus!"

"Martha, your position in this family keeps things in balance. You and Marcus are the main face of our family. If the public suddenly finds out you're suddenly not part of this family anymore, and people will focus their attention on us and pry their noses in our business." It's already been decided the moment they learn about James' revolt, they will not announce it to the public to avoid people's prying noses on them. They are afraid that it will bring humiliation to their name.

"What's the difference? If I leave or James, it will be the same. The press and the people will still talk bad about us. Besides, it's better we go through my suggestion than to let James live his life outside of our family, am I right?" Martha spoke in a matter-of-fact tone.

Martha suggested moving James to a far off place and handle one of the subsidiaries of the Coleman families' businesses. It's a small one, but it is a good new pace for James to start over and reflect on his actions.

Martha suggested that idea because she knows that the moment James cut off ties from the family, Marcus will step down from his position and pa.s.s it to Arion. She is not against the idea of making Arion the new head of the family, but Arion is not ready yet.

'Being too nice is so troublesome.' Martha inwardly commented.

"Aunt Martha, there is no need for you to do that. More than me, you are way important. So please, don't make such a hasty decision." James spoke. His aunt Martha got a great influence inside and outside of the family. The regret is way too much if the Coleman family let go of her.

"Shut it, brat," Martha replied to him with a glared. "Are you refusing my generous offer for you to have a second chance? Instead of saying that, you should be thanking me." Martha just couldn't understand why some people refuse such big opportunities like what she just offered to James.

For both Marcus and Martha what's more important than their position is family. If they let James go, aren't they also letting go of the principle they have been living for in their entire decades? The other elders don't share the same principle as them both, the only thing that they care about is their image in the public and their pride.

"I am thankful that you're doing this for me, however, it is not worth it. The elders do not agree with this set-up. If you ask me, you are threatening them with your position." James has no idea why Martha insists on not kicking him out of the family, he does not want Martha to leave her position. He doesn't want to add more sins to his list.

Sighing deeply, Martha spoke in a serious tone, "You people are no thinking at all." She said, and that comment somehow displeased almost everyone in the room. "As you all know, Marcus is the type of person who is very attached to his family. Once James leaves, Marcus will be pa.s.sing on his t.i.tle as the head of the family to Arion. As you all know as well, Arion is a very complicated matter. He is not ready to have such an important job."

In times like this, sometimes Martha thinks that she's the only one who is thinking smart. 'I am so disappointed in them.

Everyone is in silence when they heard that. They all started to think about what Martha just said. Because of the sudden silence, the twins and Leon have started to have doubts about Arion.

"Wow. Look at their faces. They look so serious now." Leon commented. He seems to be intrigued that his boss doesn't have a good reputation in the elders' opinion.

"Is our father really not that trustworthy?" Aaron asked. From the stories that he's been hearing, his father was a great man and a great leader. But the moment the silence comes in after hearing Martha's words, Aaron is somehow doubting the stories he had heard.

"You and I are the same, brother. We just met our dad, so I don't know how to answer that question." Even Anna doesn't know what to believe in anymore. There is a lot of mystery about her father, and she has yet to get to know him. But no matter what kind of a person he is, Anna knows deep well that he is a loving father.

"You two are no different from them, don't you think that you should at least something that is opposite of what they are thinking?" Leon said. Seeing the twins doubting their own father, Leon somehow felt bad for his boss.

"Look at you defending my father like that. It's so not your character, Leon."

"Shut it, Anna. Although I complain about your father being so mean to me, that doesn't mean that I don't appreciate him." Leon pouted like a child. For him, he's the only one should be allowed to complain and say negative comments about his boss. He doesn't want Anna to say anything negative about his boss because it's not her character. As for Aaron, Leon doesn't care less about what he thinks.

Seeing a chance to tease Leon, Anna opens her mouth and at the same time, she pinches Leon's face. "What's this? Our Leon is acting cute. I never knew secretly idolizing my father would make you so adorable, Leon."

"Adorable?! Ridiculous!" His face turned bright red the moment Anna called him adorable. He couldn't stand it when people compliment him of being cute. He would rather hear the word 'handsome' than 'adorable' or 'cute.'

"Anyways," Aaron spoke as he stared at the elders who have finally come up with a decision they all can agree on. "It seems like uncle James is not gonna get kicked out of the family. Are you gonna be okay with that, Anna?"

Since Aaron and his sister worked hard to get all the information that they need to expose their uncle's plan, Aaron thinks that his sister is upset that everything they have done didn't result in the way they wanted to.

"I'm okay with it. Besides, I somewhat expected that this might happen." Although she is still angry at the fact that her uncle took part to kill her mother back in her past life and has planned to have her mother kill in this current life, she still can't do anything if the elders have come to a decision, like letting her uncle James stay as a part of the family.

"You expected this?" Leon asked in a confused tone.

"Yeah. Grandfather loves our family too much, this is just one of the outcomes I predicted that might happen." Earlier, Anna was observing her father's reaction at the scene when Isaiah mentioned that James is planning to execute her mother, she saw how angry her father was. At the same time, her father was also sad. She can tell from those expressions that her father is just like her grandfather.

"Wouldn't it be fair for everyone to just kick your uncle out of the family?" Leon asked.
