Wen Xinya was looking through the notes that Zhong Rufeng had compiled for her in the condominium when she heard a sudden knocking on the door. She had no choice but to put down her notebook and proceed to open the door.

A middle-aged man dressed in a police uniform said coldly with a sullen expression on his face, “Miss Wen, I’m Inspector w.a.n.g Hanjie from the police station. Miss Jiang Ruoyin went missing last night and we’re suspecting that she has been kidnapped. The investigations are going on now, and we heard that you had a major conflict with her in the past. Please follow us back to the police station for further investigations.”

Wen Xinya raised her brows, stared at Wan Hanjie, and said, “Let’s go!”

Wen Xinya was shocked to hear that Jiang Ruoyin had gone missing. However, she was bewildered to be implicated and falsely accused as a suspect. Hence, she decided to go and take a look.

Wen Xinya was brought to the police station.

All the relevant persons were present at the police station, including Jiang Ruoyin’s mother and Chu Jingnan. To Wen Xinya’s astonishment, even Xia Ruya, Jiang Yuqian, and Xia Ruxue were around.

She finally understood why she had been embroiled into the matter.

Wen Xinya was brought to the interrogations room.

“We’ve understood from the statements of Jiang Ruoyin’s family members that Miss Jiang lost contact with them since twelve noon yesterday. The Jiang family tried to call her multiple times but couldn’t reach her at all. It’s already been 35 hours since she has gone missing…” w.a.n.g Hanjie explained briefly.

w.a.n.g Hanjie was actually in disbelief that a fifteen-year-old like her would resort to kidnapping someone. However, he was extremely anxious and wanted to solve the case as soon as possible, especially since the kidnapped person was the precious daughter of the Jiang family.

Jiang Yuqian and the rest of Wen Xinya’s cla.s.smates had all claimed that Wen Xinya had had a major conflict with Jiang Ruoyin in the past and that Wen Xinya had caused Jiang Ruoyin to be chased out of Lan Feng Inst.i.tute. They even told the police that Wen Xinya used to be a gangster on the streets, and that she was ruthless enough to commit any possible crime.

w.a.n.g Hanjie instructed his subordinates to find out all the relevant information about Wen Xinya for the past fifteen years, as well as the records of her a.s.saulting others. He then found out that she had been detained by the police for a total of four times.

Wen Xinya sat beside the table and stared at her mobile phone screen, seemingly uninterested in whatever w.a.n.g Hanjie had to say.

Angered by her nonchalance, w.a.n.g Hanjie chastised, “Miss Wen, please take note of your att.i.tude and cooperate with us for the investigation of this case.”

“Okay, ask whatever you have to,” Wen Xinya answered, still keeping her eyes glued onto her mobile phone screen.

w.a.n.g Hanjie’s face grew even more sullen and he questioned, “Are you related to Miss Jiang Ruoyin’s missing case?”

w.a.n.g Hanjie cut straight to the chase instead of following the standard protocol of interrogations. Although he was only the chief of a small police post, everyone held him with high respect and would often b.u.t.ter him up because his brother-in-law, Jiang Wenzhe, was the son-in-law of the Zhang family. Yet, Wen Xinya actually disregarded him and did not even bother looking at him. He could not stand her att.i.tude at all.

Wen Xinya answered, “It has nothing to do with me!”

w.a.n.g Hanjie had a sullen expression on his face. He questioned sternly, “However, your cla.s.smates have all claimed that you left the Inst.i.tute after school yesterday and that it happened to be at the same timing that Miss Jiang lost contact with her family. How do you explain that?”

She had gone out to meet Li Mengjie during noontime yesterday, to discuss the opening of the shop front. She explained, “During noontime yesterday, I went out to have coffee with a friend at a nearby coffee house. There should be surveillance cameras in that café. You may check the footages to verify my alibi.”

w.a.n.g Hanjie immediately asked for the café’s address and sent his subordinates to look into it, before calling Li Mengjie to get her to come to the police station for interrogations.

Soon, he was told that the surveillance camera footage had proved Wen Xinya’s words to be true.

w.a.n.g Hanjie glowered at Wen Xinya and said, “You may have an alibi, but that’s not enough to prove your innocence. After all, you don’t have to carry out the abduction yourself. You can just make a call and get someone else to do it for you.”

Wen Xinya retorted with an austere expression. “Inspector w.a.n.g, please mind your words. I’m here to a.s.sist in investigations, not to be accused as a suspect. What you just said was a prejudiced innuendo and you’ve already infringed upon my human rights. I have the right to sue you.”

Glaring at Wen Xinya coldly, w.a.n.g Hanjie said, “Miss Wen, I’m officially informing you now that you’ve already become a prime suspect of this case. So… Miss Wen, are you still going to sue me?”

Wen Xinya slammed her hand onto the table and s.h.i.+fted all her weight forward before standing up from the chair slowly. She leaned forward and kept his eyes fixed on w.a.n.g Hanjie. “What rights do you have to pin me as a suspect?”

“I have the rights to do that because of the very fact that you had a major conflict with Jiang Ruoyin in the past!” he exclaimed at Wen Xinya, who was glaring daggers at him. w.a.n.g Hanjie could not help but get the chills. He did not expect a fifteen-year-old to have such a menacing gaze.

Wen Xinya smirked coldly. Her smile was mirthless, and yet enough to make someone fl.u.s.tered. She said, “This is just a conjecture of yours. It’s not sufficient to be used as evidence in court. Are you bullying me just because you think that I don’t know the law?”

w.a.n.g Hanjie could not help but feel fl.u.s.tered. He was indeed just trying to frighten Wen Xinya, whom he thought was not aware of the protocols and laws of the nation. After all, he had been a policeman for years and encountered lots of criminals and suspects, most of whom were uninformed of the laws. There were rarely any who could keep their composure and remain so dauntless in front of the police.

Yet, he had encountered a tough nut to crack today.

Wen Xinya pressed her lips together and put on a sinister smile. “Inspector w.a.n.g, you don’t have an eyewitness or any concrete evidence yet. How could you accuse me and pin me as the prime suspect? I have the right to remain silent before my lawyer arrives.”

“Miss Wen, this is only a misunderstanding. I was just saying that casually. I don’t intend to record your statement and keep it in the file. Hence, you’re only here to a.s.sist in investigations,” said a panicked w.a.n.g Hanjie, for he knew that Wen Xinya belonged to the wealthy and powerful Wen Family. If she were to call her lawyer, she would definitely be able to sue him for his statement.

Even his brother-in-law would not be able to save him if that were to happen.

Wen Xinya removed her hands from the table slowly and sat down on the chair slowly. “A misunderstanding? Inspector w.a.n.g, you’re really great at cracking jokes. The police station is a place of justice and yet, such misunderstandings actually happened. I really doubt your competence in solving cases.”

w.a.n.g Hanjie was at a loss for words.
