143 Homeless

Liu Yan was her only relative in the world but now she was lying in the intensive care unit of the hospital. No matter how she tried, she couldn't stop herself from feeling distraught when she saw her looking so weak. She thought that after all these years she was over all that had happened, but as soon as she saw him and his mother looking so weak. She lost it.

She felt like escaping back to America, but she knew she had to face this now or she would never truly be able to get over this.

Silently crying, she looked around lost, she hadn't been in this city for four years. She didn't know where to go, the Zhang's villa was no longer an option.

Dragging along her suitcase, she began to walk aimlessly along the pavement.

She had graduated just a few weeks ago. Thanks to the scholars.h.i.+p, she had no debt even after finis.h.i.+ng. Now that she was back here, if she wanted to survive in this city, she knew she had to hurry to find a job and a place to stay.

Searching for a place to stay on her phone, she continued to walk following the directions on her phone.

Arriving at her destination, she saw a small, dilapidated hotel with a signboard that read Chaoyang Hotel.

She had earned work experience during her placement year that on top of her degree and the fact that she had attended one of the best universities in the world gave her confidence in returning back home to find a job.

Before Zhang Xiaohua's call, she had been battling with thought of whether to stay in the US and work for one year and then get a green card and become a US citizen. However, though she had tried to suppress it, every now and then she would have pang of homesickness, she was quite alone living abroad and her naturally cold disposition made it hard for her to make friend. Moreover, her mother had become seriously ill. That, plus a bunch of other factors, convinced her to come back.

Booking a room from the reception, Zhao Zilin dragged her suitcase towards her room.

Because the rent here was cheaper, the rooms weren't very large, but the facilities were quite adequate. Zhao Zilin wanted to do find a job as soon as possible, then buy an apartment of her own to stay at.

....

Zhang Xiaohua was standing in front of Liu Yan's ward.

Zhang Xiaohua sighed and touched his red cheeks with his hands.

Zhang Xiaohua went to change into a sterile suit.

Walking into the ward, he went up to the bed and looked at the unconscious Liu Yan, Zhang Xiaohua immediately put on a serious expression, and solemnly said: "Liu Yan, you can rest a.s.sured, I will help you take care of your daughter, but let me just say this in advance, I can't take care of your daughter for a lifetime. You also see that she is too ferocious. So you must hurry up and get better. Except for you, I don't think anyone else can control her."

"Liu Yi."

Zhang Xiaohua's words were like a spark.

Zhang Xiaohua continued to chat with Liu Yan.

Although the doctor had already written off Liu Yan, Zhang Xiaohua never thought about giving up. He had been spending huge sums of money to provide Liu Yan the best medicine, even if there was only a little bit of hope. Zhang Xiaohua decided to go all out.

…...

Late at night, Chaoyang Hotel.

Zhao Zilin packed up her luggage and went to take a shower. After sitting in the plane for years, she had stayed in the hospital for a long time as well.

Struggling to bath in the cold water, Zhao Zilin finished up, wiped her body and got dressed. Trotting all the way into the bed, she began to tremble and broke into sneezes.

Tired, Zhao Zilin was about to fall asleep when she suddenly heard the moaning of a girl from next door followed by the sound of a bed shaking violently.

Zhao Zilin smothered her ears and tumbled over, twirling about trying to sleep...
