Chapter 50 Dunerk's Silkpants1

Jin was in a bad mood.

To be precise, Jin had been in a bad mood for three days now, because both of his eyelids had been throbbing the whole time. His family was the biggest banker family in Dunerk, and every member had a mystical ability handed down from their ancestors—when certain bad events were about to happen, their eyelids would throb incessantly.

The worse the matter, the more violently they would ache, and the longer it would persist.

Ten years ago, Jin's father had made a mistake on an investment, losing the family hundreds of thousands of gold coins. Just before the crisis, his father's eyelids had throbbed for one day and one night. Yet this time, Jin's eyelids went so far as to twitch continuously for three days! Was it possible that a devil was watching him?

The anxious Jin couldn't sleep soundly for several days in a row. His originally handsome face became haggard. With his naturally hooked nose, gloomy expression, and deep, sunken eye bags, whenever Jin looked at himself in the mirror, his reflection reminded him of a wretched, evil spirit or a vampire that ought to be stabbed through the heart with a pure silver stake.

When nothing bad happened for two consecutive days, Jin eventually recovered his spirit, taking his valet to his family's Golden Rose Bar. It was called a bar, yet it was in fact Dunerk's first-cla.s.s 'gold-melting den2'. There were casinos, animal-fighting rings, wrestling rings, slave auction houses, as well as all kinds of unusual treasure auction houses. What's more, here one could enjoy beautiful women, fine wine, and delicious food from all over the continent. As a result, it became a hotspot in Dunerk for the young, aristocratic masters and mistresses to spend time in.

Commoners had to painstakingly endure the ceaseless winter, but the aristocratic young masters and mistresses naturally couldn't possibly be subjected to snowstorms while having fun outside. So during the endless winter, they held various indoor activities for entertainment, and the Golden Rose was precisely such a place. Here, as long as one had enough gold coins, activities that warmed the heart and delighted the eyes could be found.

Because of his throbbing eyelids, Jin hadn't gone to manage the business in the Golden Rose for two days already. And yet, the moment he arrived at the Golden Rose by nightfall, he heard Angel, a well-known, beautiful woman in Dunerk, making a big fuss in the resting hall. "It really is him. I didn't see wrongly. How could I have seen wrongly? It was exactly that scoundrel, the one who not only robbed my elder brother of his purse but also smashed his head. The one who pushed me into that d.a.m.nable place!"

The scoundrel who robbed Angel's elder brother of his purse and even pushed her into a certain place? 'Why does this sound so familiar?' Jin's brain, which was aching because of lack of sleep, worked rapidly searching for information concerning this matter.

After a while, Jin suddenly recalled a name that brought him nightmares at night—Lin Qi!

The one who once caused extreme suffering for everyone, turning the dignified young masters into battered and exhausted bodies and making the well-groomed young mistresses cry to the sky and scream to the earth. The spectre who dominated Dunerk for quite some years! That is, until the scoundrel suddenly disappeared without a trace three years ago!

Lin Qi!

Jin could only feel a burst of cold air rus.h.i.+ng from the top of his head to the soles of his feet. His body s.h.i.+vered uncontrollably. His head, neck, shoulders, waist, b.u.t.t, legs—all parts of his body that Lin Qi had beaten in the past ached tremendously.

Angel was still endlessly harping on. "I saw him yesterday. My G.o.d! It was truly a nightmare! In that split second I saw him, my vision turned black—I truly almost pa.s.sed out! Last night at the ball, I told Anleen and the others of this matter—they actually didn't believe me!"

Using a small handkerchief to fan herself in anger, Angel resentfully said, "But you have to believe me. That scoundrel has truly returned! My G.o.d! The scoundrel, the sc.u.m, the disgrace of all the aristocratic families in Dunerk, the savage bandit! Why hasn't G.o.d punished him yet?"

Inside the resting hall, ten young men and women gathered quietly on the large, plush sofa. Each and every one of their expressions was incomparably ugly.

They were all part of the aristocracy in Dunerk. Their families' elders were either the local n.o.bilities in Dunerk with ample lands and manors to support their needs or the heroic and wealthy merchants who called the wind and summoned the rain in the city's business world, thus ensuring their luxurious lives.

But in the depths of their hearts, a pitch-black and twisted name that brought nightmares and had them dripping with cold sweat time and again was branded—Lin Qi!

Regardless of whether they were fifteen or sixteen years old or even close to thirty, they all deeply remembered that name and its owner!

That freak of a scoundrel who had relied on brute force since childhood, beaten Dunerk's young masters until they had b.l.o.o.d.y noses and swollen faces, and plundered every copper coin they possessed. That b.a.s.t.a.r.d of a demon who had been shameless, rude, and unreasonable, who had humiliated Dunerk's young mistresses until they cut extremely sorry figures and pushed them repeatedly into dirty ditches, water puddles, and various livestock excrements.

Three years ago, when his father forcefully sent him to the imperial capital to study, all of them felt an enormous sense of relief. For three whole years, not the least bit of news had been heard about him. It was such a happy three years, practically like G.o.d's kind shelter. During these three years, Dunerk's young masters and mistresses had been living wonderful lives, spending their time so freely and comfortably!

But now, he had returned!

Jin's facial muscles violently twitched at the same frequency as the throbbing of his eyelids!

That demon, who slipped into the Golden Rose casino to hang out when he was thirteen and, using some unknown method, won all the cash in the casino five consecutive times… had returned? Goodness gracious! He wouldn't come straight to the Golden Rose to fish up some pocket money, right?

Recalling the miserable times when Lin Qi had treated the Golden Rose as his personal purse from which he willfully withdrew money, Jin's calves and stomach went soft.

"A-An-Angel!" Jin stammered, then opened his mouth to say, "For G.o.d's sake, tell me: you are kidding, right? Hahaha, that guy, Lin Qi, how could he have possibly returned? Ah, perhaps he had already become a corpse on some street in the imperial capital?"

Everyone rigidly stared at Angel. Jin's words were more in accord with their thoughts. Perhaps someone in the imperial capital had truly gotten rid of that scoundrel by now. It was the imperial capital after all, a place where high-ranking n.o.bles gathered. Lin Qi could unrestrainedly bully others in Dunerk, but the imperial capital had so many big shots. They weren't someone Lin Qi could lightly provoke!

Jin had just finished speaking when someone suddenly and violently kicked the prominent golden door of the Golden Rose.

Lin Qi's voice sounded, his  powerful voice penetrating into the resting hall.

The faces of Dunerk's male and female silkpants turned deathly pale before shooting strange looks at Jin.
