134 Was It Worth It?

"Rhys, I think I'm just tired."

"Yeah, you must be," Rhys muttered. "You worked hard this entire time Lyn. Still," his eyes twitched in annoyance when he recalled something. "I tried to meet with you again before your wedding! Don't you remember?"

It happened such a long time ago. He was drunken then too, so he wasn't sure on the details. But how could Rhys forget going to Lyn, hugging her, basking in that warmth and telling her to choose him? To stop the wedding - no, he spouted some crazy nonsense about her escaping with him.

"Mm, I remember. But you don't," Lyn commented drily. "What kind of fool tries to whisk away the bride the night before the wedding?"

Ah, so there was a catch to all of this. He foolishly got himself drunk before the wedding.

"Uh, sorry."

Lyn sighed. "Really, I couldn't believe it. I waited for you for so dammed long."

"Huh? Did you wait for me? Why?"

"I doubted my relations.h.i.+p with Kazuya since I woke up in the Sound Kingdom that day. Something felt very wrong to me, but I shrugged it away. I forgot a lot of things - but I couldn't forget how you were there for me for so long. Did you think I was that ungrateful and unfeeling?"

"Lyn, wait a moment," Rhys placed his hand on his forehead. "You wanted to marry me?"

"Yes."

"You sure you have the right person here?"

She didn't fall in love with someone else when he wasn't looking, right?

Lyn deeply sighed, "I think I know who I was waiting for. But you never came back to me. Kazuya stayed by my side more often then, and we got close to each other again. We fixed our relations.h.i.+p, so when he proposed to me - I accepted it."

"Lyn..." Rhys said slowly. He did not know what to say.

"I'm tired, Rhys," she repeated. "But I love Kazuya now. Whenever I see you, though, my old feelings resurface. I'm not sure if I still love you, or if I'm just thinking of all old times."

"I'm really sorry...."

...

Rhys gaze fell on the girl who fell fast asleep in his arms, and he sighed deeply. 'Now then, what does he do with that information?' He didn't think it was like that. For the longest time, he held himself back, and what for? How much time did he waste over a simple misunderstanding? He is very sorry - but can he make it right now? Does he deserve to make things, right?

Or rather, can he? Lyn is already married now. Even if her relations.h.i.+p with Kazuya has problems, would Lyn abandon Kazuya for him? She wouldn't do that; she said it herself that she loves Kazuya. This is very frustrating; if only he knew sooner, then he would have succeeded in taking her away.

To think Lyn waited for him for so long. What a fool, so many wasted years and time. But what can he do about it now? She fell in love with Kazuya again in that short time.

"Ah, did she fall asleep?"

His eyes twitched in annoyance when he hears that nonchalant tone by the window. "Use the door."

Entering through the window was none other than his best friend, Kazuya. The King of the Mist Kingdom, and the husband of the woman he loves.

"My bad," Kazuya walked over and extended his hand out towards Lyn. But Rhys protectively pulled Lyn into his arms.

"Don't touch her."

"Wow, that's how you're going to play this?"

Rhys, however, didn't go along with his jokes. "Are you an idiot? No, both of you, why ...did your relations.h.i.+p become strained? Was it because of me?"

Kazuya sighed, and yet he nodded. "It was you, but it was also me. You know Lyn gets very lonely easily. After I showered her with that much love and affection at the start - it's only normal. She got used to having another person by her side. That's why, whenever I was away from her, she always fell sick. When she became the Queen, and that continued happening, it became very concerning. I tried my best to stay around and noticed that she recovered a lot more. However, I couldn't replace you."

"What do you mean?"

"That girl wanted someone by her side, but I don't think it was me she wanted," Kazuya mumbled. "Hey, she was very happy when she was with you, right?"

"Are you kidding me?" Rhys mumbled. "Don't you dare say that. Do you have any idea how much pain and suffering she went through?" Lyn cried every single night in his arms. Rhys slept in the same room with her, because of one of her episodes. She almost jumped out of the window when she was sleepwalking. During those times, she cried a lot and said Kazuya's name.

"But, you eased her pain, and she eventually got better?"

"d.a.m.n Kazuya, don't be a jerk. She loves you, and you know that."

Kazuya nodded. "Of course, I know that Lyn loves me, and she won't leave me," he said with confidence that annoyed him. "However, I want you to understand her Rhys. We were the only ones who got to know the real her. Neither Prince Zepher or even Arthur knew Lyn as well as we did. We were the only ones who were truly close to her."

"...I feel bad for leaving," Rhys looked down at the girl in his arms. "Alright, I was salty about the wedding and seeing the woman I love get married. But, even then, I should have stayed with her."

"Don't mind it; I would have run away too."

"Ha."

"Rather, I did. When I heard how close you two were, I had no choice."

"Stupid."

Kazuya laughed, "Indeed, hey, what do you plan to do?"

"For one, you're not taking her away tonight. I'm keeping her by my side, and no, I won't let her sleep in another room."

"Wow, you've held it back this entire time."

"Quit it, do you have any idea how mad I am at you? Geez Kazuya, why did you have to do this? If you wanted to stay with Lyn, you could have. I know you're looking for that to help her. But, even then," Rhys mumbled. "Was it worth it? So she could remember me?"
