Chapter 1849: Still A Step Too Late

Qu Jingwan shook her head and her red lips curled into a smile. Seeing the sarcasm on Old lady Qu’s face, she did not say anything else.

“Why? What’s wrong with the tea I made?”

Old lady Qu’s expression was solemn. Seeing that Qu Jingwan had something to say but did not say anything, she could not help but feel puzzled. Logically speaking, Qu Jingwan should not have realized what she had done to the tea. Moreover, there was nothing in the tea.

“I’ll go get Grandpa.”

Qu Jingwan coughed softly to hide her awkwardness as she thought about what Pei Ge had told her.

Was it true?

Qu Jingwan walked to Old master Qu’s side and looked at Pei Ge and Ji Ziming who were standing at the side. She leaned over and said, “Grandpa, grandma wants you to go over.”

“Why are you calling me?”

Old master Qu looked at Pei Ge with eyes that resembled that woman who had occupied his memories for so many years.

“Grandma said she made you a new cup of tea, so…”

“Then tell her I’m drinking alcohol today instead of tea.”

Old master Qu’s expression was cold but he pretended to smile at Ji Ziming and Pei Ge.

“That won’t do. Old master Qu, if you drink today, I’m afraid your doctor will tell us that you can’t drink at all. What are we going to do then? If he finds out that I’m the one who took the lead, I’m afraid Mr Ji…”

“Mr Ji really likes to joke. I know my own old body very well. Otherwise, how could I be considered an iron man in the Qu family and the capital after so many years?”

Old master Qu flattered himself and glanced behind Qu Jingwan. His heart skipped a beat when he saw Old lady Qu talking to Mao Nana.

As for Mao Nana’s condition, it was no longer his concern. Mao Nana was about to take the cup of tea and put it into her mouth.

“Wait a moment.”

Old master Qu was still late.

Mao Nana ate two pieces of mousse cake and drank a huge cup of hot tea. She puffed her cheeks and looked at Old master Qu with her eyes wide open. After swallowing the food in her mouth, she asked, “Why? Can’t you drink this cup of tea? It’s right here.”

Mao Nana did not see Old lady Qu walking over with the tea and did not hear the conversation between Old lady Qu and Qu Jingwan. It was only because this cup of hot tea was right beside her that it stood out among all kinds of drinks and alcohol that she took a big gulp.

“Who are you? Why did you touch my grandma’s tea?”

Qu Jingwan looked at Mao Nana and her beautiful aura made Qu Jingwan irritable. The Qu family was clearly in the limelight tonight, yet she did not know that Pei Ge was here. Now, there was a long-legged beauty who appeared out of nowhere along with someone.

Mao Nana had an advantage in height, so when she stood in front of Qu Jingwan, she was a full head taller than her.

“Who are you? I’m asking you a question.”

Qu Jingwan looked at her. Her red lips were as bright as blood.

“Old master Qu, I…”

When everyone heard Qu Jingwan’s loud voice, they were attracted by the commotion and curiously watched how this long-legged beauty was going to get entangled with Qu Jingwan, who was notorious in the capital.

“It’s alright. It’s just a cup of tea.”

Old master Qu smiled benevolently as he saw more and more people gathering around him. The fine wrinkles at the corner of his eyes seemed to curve up as his body emitted a gentle glow.

“Grandpa, isn’t this woman here to ruin your birthday party? I’m asking you a question. Who are you? Who brought you back?”

Qu Jingwan refused to let it go. Her eyes darted around as she looked at Mao Nana. “My grandmother personally poured this tea for my grandpa. Today is my grandpa’s birthday. Shouldn’t you apologize to him?”

“I brought it here.”

Ji Ziming and Qu Xiujie said in unison.

The moment they said that, they looked at each other. Ji Ziming’s eyes seemed to be smiling as he held Pei Ge’s arm and walked up to Old master Qu. “Old master Qu, since Nana has already drunk Old lady Qu’s new tea, I have a good idea.”

“Mr Ji, what good idea do you have? I don’t care about this cup of tea, it’s really fine. Besides, does my family lack a cup of tea?”

Old master Qu looked at Old lady Qu who was walking over and said, “Madam, you are really thoughtful.”

“Old master Qu, coincidentally, I brought you some new tea today too.”

Ji Ziming looked at Pei Ge. The meaning in his eyes was clear.

“I understand.”

Their eyes met and she nodded. She released his arm and followed He Yun to the kitchen.

After Pei Ge left the venue, Ji Ziming then looked at Old lady Qu and Old master Qu. “Everyone says that Old master Qu likes to drink tea now. This tea is specially sent over by an elder for me to taste. It’s a type of tea that has a long history but very few people have drunk it before. I thought that since Old master Qu has seen everything, I naturally can’t let him lose the original beauty of this type of tea. Hence, I came over today to taste it with him. How about it?”

Ji Ziming curled his lips and the coldness in his eyes made Old lady Qu fear.

“Oh? It seems that Mr Ji came prepared. Then, as an old man, I must have a good taste of Mr Ji’s new tea. Moreover, Madam Ji brewed it for me personally, what a meaningful birthday I have.”

Old master Qu smiled and looked at Ji Ziming meaningfully.

He merely wanted to make use of Ji Ziming to restore Qu family to its former glory, but when Ji Ziming went to look for him, he realized that everything was done by Ji Ziming and Pei Ge.

However, Pei Ge was his granddaughter, so how could he explain all these grudges?

“Old master Qu, you are being really polite. You are the birthday star today and the most important person. No matter what happens today, you must be happy. If you are unhappy, we will really be unhappy too.”

Ji Ziming looked at Old master Qu with cold eyes. The cold aura that he exuded made no one dare to step forward.

Soon, Pei Ge walked over from the kitchen, followed by a beautiful lady in a cheongsam.
