Chapter 1684: Daddy, did you and mommy sleep well last night?

“Sir, t-that person…”

He Yun stammered, for he could sense his boss’s anger from the other end of the call. Although the latter said and did nothing, from his understanding of him, he knew the man’s silence meant that he was very infuriated.

He dared not say anything else. In the end, the man spoke.

“Continue talking about Sire Nine.”

It was as though He Yun had been pardoned. He took a deep breath. If his boss scolded him, he would be able to find out all about Sire Nine. No matter how difficult it would be, he would be able to dig out all the information, let alone a person who had whitewashed himself.

“Yes! I’m going to continue now.”

He returned to his monitor and spoke about who the elderly man had met through the years and all the business dealings he had had. He scoured through all the details he was able to find; thus, this call ended up taking more than two hours.

If Pei Ge did not hear Ji Ziming occasionally saying something, she would think that he had been basking in the sunlight for the two hours.

She had finished revising the proposal at this point and found no more mistakes. She sent it to the other departments for the next steps. Ji Ziming’s phone call ended then. He walked back in, only to see the woman looking at him. He was slightly surprised but did say something. That secret of Sire Nine had truly shocked him. Unbeknown to him, there was someone doing such disgusting things with that ident.i.ty on his turf.

The only reason Sire Nine had incurred his suspicion was that he had whitewashed himself too much and ended up making himself seem like a charitable businessman.

“Done with your call?”

Pei Ge watched him approaching and carried the doc.u.ments to her desk.

“Mhm.”

His voice was light but was exceptionally aloof to her ears.

“What’s wrong?”

She sensed that something was off with him.

He shot her a look while exuding a deterring aura.

“When we have time, let’s go visit Ji Miao’s younger sister.”

“Okay.”

She nodded and, seeing that he did not wish to explain anything to her, saw no need to ask further. She placed the doc.u.ments on her desk and walked toward him.

She caressed his face lightly. Even if he was unwilling to say it, she could find it herself. If he wanted to tell her, he would tell her.

Everything had a perfect reason; just as he allowed her to caress his face, his heart was filled with warmth. Everything in the world had a vent for release, and for Ji Ziming, it was this woman.

“Ge Ge, let me hug you.”

He hugged her right after speaking as gentleness filled his eyes; he wrapped her tightly in his arms.

“What’s wrong?”

To Pei Ge, the man was really acting weird.

“I’m fine; just let me hug you for a while.”

He slowly let go of her, and Pei Ge was shocked by the look in his eyes. Was this man still her man? Was this still the Ji Ziming who had an endless amount of strength on the bed?

The answer was certain.

“So you don’t intend to tell me?”

Looking at the look of hurt in his eyes, her heart ached for him. She had only ever seen the aloof side of him before, and none of this vulnerability he was displaying now.

“You’ll know next time.”

Ji Ziming rested his face on Pei Ge’s shoulder. He looked at the secretary station not far away. He knew someone whom he was very familiar with had once sat there, but now it was all nothing history.

Time slowly ticked by, and soon, it was nighttime. By the time the couple reached home, it was already very lively at the dining table with the children.

“Ran Ran, are you feeling better?”

Pei Ge got some vegetables for her daughter, then touched her forehead to check her temperature.

“If you guys were home today, you would know that this little la.s.s looked nothing like a sick person. She fought with her two brothers and even bothered Auntie Zhang while she was cooking in the kitchen. Do you think this la.s.sie is anything like a sick person?”

Madam Ji served the girl a bowl of chicken soup and blew at the content to cool it down before presenting the latter with a spoonful of it. She carefully instructed, “Granddaughter, be good; drink this chicken soup while it’s still a bit warm, alright?”

“Thanks, grandma.”

The girl stuck out her tongue. “Anyway, you’re not allowed to lie to mommy. I wasn’t that naughty; I even helped Auntie Zhang prepare dinner.”

She pointed at the plate of dorayaki in front of her and looked exceptionally excited that even her lips upturned. “Mommy, daddy, look at this. I made it.”

“You made it?”

Pei Ge raised her brow, and upon seeing that her daughter had regained some energy on her face, she finally sighed in relief.

“That’s right; I made it.”

The girl nodded calmly, saying, “That’s made by Auntie Zhang. I was in charge of adding water and pouring flour.”

Ran Ran stuck out her tongue. Her adorable actions made the usually cold Ji Ziming look in her direction. She probably sensed his gaze, for the la.s.s turned to look at him.

“Daddy, did you and mommy sleep well last night?”

The child’s sudden question made the adults feel awkward.

Last night, the couple went at it until the wee hours. If her body had been a bit weaker, she probably would have not been unable to withstand such torture.

“Not bad; why?” answered the man with a straight face. “What do you want to tell me?”

“Nothing much; I just want to ask daddy if you and mommy solved my brothers’ riddle?”

“Riddle?”

Ji Ziming began searching for it in his mind. Other than the children complaining that the home tutor had been very ‘strict’, there seemed to be no more problems. He just did not get what new things the children were thinking about.

“Are you talking about the last part of the riddle?”

His lips curled as he looked at his daughter in shock.
