Chapter 1611: Because you are my woman.

“What if I don’t tell you where I slept last night?”

He laughed as he looked into her eyes. Before he headed downstairs this morning, he heard Qu Jingwan speaking rudely to her and wanted to know what her att.i.tude toward it was.

However, he was disappointed because she barely did anything and let that missy reach out for a yard after taking an inch.

If she was unwilling to take certain actions, he would do them on her behalf.

“Don’t you dare!”

She pouted and looked straight into his eyes. After seeing that he only had eyes for her, all the unhappiness in her heart was instantly replaced by her present emotions.

“Silly la.s.s, you’re my woman, so how could I go look for someone else?”

He lightly pinched her nose in a doting and gentle manner.

“Actually, I knew that you hadn’t looked for Qu Jingwan.”

The woman spoke feebly but sounded as though she lacked confidence.

“I know. You’re my woman, so I of course know what you’re thinking inside.”

His lips curled as his eyes brightened. He looked at her in the most endearing way with his clear eyes.

“Then, why did you…”

She was timid and dared not look at him straight in the eye, yet her heart was telling her that, while this man knew everything, it was not the right time for her to know too much.

“Let’s go; I’ll send you home. Wait till we’re home, and I’ll tell you everything you wanna know.”

His enchanting, clear voice made it difficult for her to resist.

The man’s Rolls Royce attracted a lot of attention on the road, and only then did Pei Ge realize that she had driven there herself, too.

“Hey, I’m leaving with you, but my car is still there.”

She was anxious, but the man driving the car was not worried at all. “I already had someone drive it back.”

She frowned as she seemed to have underestimated his abilities.

“When was that? How come I didn’t see it?”

She was baffled because she really did not see it. They had been outside the room all the while, and she did not even get a good look at the person in the room. Thus, when did the person, who drove her car away, come?

“Your car was parked at the entrance, so when you entered the room, my man drove it off.”

He spoke matter-of-factly. Having predicted that she would come to the same place as him, he of course would not let her head home on her own.

This was his way of doing things.

His woman could only be protected by him.

Sitting beside the driver’s seat, she looked at the beautiful side-profile of this man who appeared regal in his black suit. How could he not understand her?

“Are the children at home, too?”

He looked at her questioningly from the corner of his eyes. He remained silent as he thought of how to explain this to her once they reached home. The man initially did not want to involve her in this matter, but he realized that she was already implicated whether he liked it or not, for those people were apparently targeting her.

Not long after, the car arrived at Ji mansion. He parked the car to one side but did not say or do anything.

“What’s wrong? Aren’t we driving into the garage?”

She was puzzled on why they were not entering the garage when they were already at the entrance.

“You head in first, while I enter a little later.”

He sounded aloof as he looked at her. His eyes changed from gentle to distant gradually.

“Head in first and I’ll join you after I settle the matter.”

She did not think further upon seeing his expression. Sooner or later, he would come clean to her anyway. She simply said a few words before entering the mansion.

Upon seeing the young master sending his woman back, Auntie Zhang ran forward while excitedly chattering. “Madam, how is it? Have you and the young master reconciled?”

Pei Ge was unsure how to explain it when she saw the sparkle in the old cook’s eyes.

Have Ji Ziming and I reconciled?

It seems that we did, but it also seems that we did not.

“Auntie Zhang, we… we’re…”

She stammered. In the old cook’s eyes, it appeared that the two had reconciled but this young woman was embarra.s.sed to admit it.

Her lips curled. “Talk no more. As long as you two are okay, we, your servants, will be at ease.”

Pei Ge furrowed her brows slightly because she really had no idea how she should explain it to Auntie Zhang. It sounded as though the helpers would feel worried if she and the man kept quarrelling.

“Err… I’m thirsty and my flask is empty.”

She found an awkward excuse but knew that the old cook was aware that she did not wish to reveal anything else. The latter beat a hasty retreat and brought out another flask from the kitchen while she was at it.

Pei Ge drank three full gla.s.ses of water, but Ji Ziming was nowhere to be seen.

Sitting on the sofa, her eyes became dull. She was getting confused on all that was happening; also, his words became so deep that she could not see to the bottom of them.

Auntie Zhang noticed the changes in her expression and understood that she should speak no more. She refilled the flask with water before getting back to her work.

Pei Ge kept glancing at the door but could not see traces of the Rolls Royce. It seemed that he had forgotten about her completely.

Just as she was in a daze, he appeared in front of her with a glowing smile which hit her heart bull’s-eye.

“What are you thinking that you’re so absorbed?”

His voice sounded indifferent, and though it came from just above her head, she could not believe it belonged to the man’s.

“How did you get in?”

She was taken aback and asked him where he entered for she did not notice it at all.

“You’re staring dazedly at the entrance, so you obviously didn’t see me coming in from the other side.”

He pointed to the end of the corridor; there was a back door there. It was only used by the helpers who would go out to buy groceries or attend to their private matters. She had never seen him entering or leaving from that door.

“I’m right in front of you, so what are you looking at?”

He sat down beside her and saw the hint of depression in her eyes.
