9 Chapter 9:

I took several steps back, my face burning from the hit that Xenon gave me. Her arms and chest shaking terribly when walking over to me again, looking ready to hit me again.

My anger for her knowing my little cousin had drowned away from the look on her face.

She looked so terrified and it hurt my heart seeing her pain.

Though it seemed to me she wasn't gonna cry.

It looked like she wanted to hit something... or someone.

"Xenon-"

She shot something out of her hands towards me but luckily I dove in time to not get hurt. An angry growl came from her as she snapped her fingers, a storm brewing above us.

The vampires around us seemed horrified by the storm and started running away while their leader was paralyzed by one of Xenon's spells. I looked around, seeing Ajax and Alexandra watching what was happening.

Ajax s.h.i.+fted back to human form, bruised and injured when he told her something and came over to Xenon and me. He started saying something under his breath, the storm growing but he continued speaking in a hushed tone that I couldn't even hear.

"Get out of my head Ajax. I don't want you f.u.c.king in there!" She barks furiously as she turned to Ajax and glared daggers at him. His eyes connected with hers, still speaking quietly while he walked closer and closer.

They continued to stare at each other, her anger growing with the distance between both of them. It was getting harder and harder to breathe with the tension and the storm practically stealing the oxygen from the air.

It was so interesting to watch the two.

They were killers, h.e.l.l even demons in their own ways.

Though they were real people who had feelings.

Of course, she would know who my family and friends were. It's her job to kill me and I keep forgetting that. But what makes her different is that she seems to... not want to kill me.

She takes pleasure in killing. There's no doubt about that, but she seems to have other objectives instead of killing me.

To be honest, she reminds me a lot about Faye.

Faye just really is very distant from everyone and doesn't want to reveal any of her issues or emotions though you can tell she cares. Xenon may be the same but she could care less if she hurt anyone's feelings.

Could they...

Could they be the same person?

"I SAID DON'T GET CL-"

Ajax grabbed her arms and pulled her into a tight hug that only seemed to anger her more but he refused to let her go. His face was twisted in pain, clearly not used to the new emotions that having a mate brought.

I couldn't help but feel jealous.

It made me realize that Xenon couldn't be Faye.

Ajax didn't care for Faye as much as he cared for Xenon.

And that just causes flames of jealousy to rise within me.

Xenon should be mine. He already has Alexandra so he should just leave-

My chest was thrown into a sharp pain when Xenon broke down, clutching onto him tightly as she relived whatever she was remembering. I felt so much of her misery and her desire to be in control as Ajax held her tightly and whispered something into her ear that caused her body to shudder then fall limp.

"Xenon..." I snapped out of my phase, hurrying over to where Ajax was as he picked her off the ground and held her. The ferocity in his movements made me step back, cautious of his fury.

"She's fine. But I told you not to remind her of being hexed you f.u.c.ker." He snarls, his eyes s.h.i.+fting to a deadly black shocking me. "I'm going to f.u.c.king murder you-"

"He didn't do anything Ajax. It was a vampire who raised his hand to her. Something must have made her have a flashback." Alexandra protected as she looked at him seriously, he was shooting daggers at me when she grabbed his arm softly. "Babe. Relax." She whispered comfortably making him look away from me and down at her.

"You- You just don't understand. Neither of you can understand what you have to do when you are apart of the league... They tear your soul out of you... Whether you give it up or not... Th-"

Ring.

Something buzzed inside of Xenon's pocket as Ajax collected himself and grabbed the phone from her pocket.

"Hold her for now. And don't even think of abusing your deal with her." He snaps at me, allowing me to hold onto Xenon when I scoffed and kneeled down to the ground. Alexandra grasped my arm before standing up and going to Ajax where he was having a hushed conversation with the person on the phone.

I stared down at Xenon, seeing that her fresh tears were still staining her face. The pain she had been feeling had suddenly disappeared and was filled with serene memories that I was still blocked from.

If only I could see what they were about.

Maybe I can make her feel better...

Tell her I'm sorry for accusing her of hexing me.

After her and Ajax's words, I did some research about witches and hexes that they can put. I found that hexing is a category of dark magic and the only way for witch's to use such power is to give up some of the life force.

Everyone has a limited amount of life force and it's not to be taken lightly.

Witches have greater amounts of life force but it's not something you can hand out to everyone. Wolves and other mystical creatures have a fair amount but not nearly as much as a witch or someone who holds power in their hands.

Depending on what you want to do with your life force. You can give some of it to save a person, or cast a high-cla.s.s spell, just really anything and that's the dangerous thing about giving your life force.

Whether your request is large or small, there will always be some kind of karma and it never ends in a good way.

Let's say you heal someone's broken heart with a bit of your life force, you could potentially forget a close friend to you or your own mate.

It's one of the reasons that the mystic law has banned the use of life force distributing and magic that costs life force. Hence why that kind of magic is called dark magic. After finding all that out about dark magic and learning of why life force distributing is banned to every mystical creature.

I'm afraid to know what had happened to Xenon when she hexed someone... Clearly, Ajax knew exactly what happened and the fear in both their eyes had caused s.h.i.+vers to go down my spine.

"Alright. Yes, sir... Okay. I will wake her now." Ajax's voice was cold and emotionless when he hung up on the phone call and turned his attention back to the three of us. His face was slightly pale as he took and deep breath and slipped Xenon's phone in his pocket.

"What is it?" I ask, still in a faze from thinking about dark magic and the consequences there could be for using it. Xenon's calming breaths were slightly relaxing to me, keeping me in this calm mental state.

Alexandra didn't seem to know what was going on while Ajax walked over to Xenon and I before kneeling down beside us. He didn't say anything, closing his eyes and resting his hand on Xenon's neck where there was a clear bite mark from a vampire.

It surprised me that he knew of the wound when I couldn't even sense that there was even a bite wound. Though I was going to visit Terra tomorrow and get answers from her.

She will be punished.

Again.

"Expergiscimini." He whispered out loud, a small bright light coming from his hands before Xenon gasped awake and lurched out of her laying down position in a fit of coughs.

"Xenon! You're awake." I breathed in relief when I reached for her but Ajax held me back and shook his head.

"Xenon. Our official wants to meet up with us right now." Ajax told her while she breathed heavily and reached up with her hand and felt the bite on her neck. "I know. But right now we have to go." He helped her off the ground as she leaned on him heavily and clenched her fists tightly.

"No..." She murmured under her breath, her face twisted in pain.

"No what? I'm not letting you go al-"

"I-I can tell him. If he wants to harm me, I won't feel anything at the time. Please... Give me some energy to make it there." She interrupted him, flas.h.i.+ng him a painful smile.

"I can't let you do th-"

"Good thing I wasn't asking." She laughed only causing herself more pain when he growled at her. They stare at each other for a moment, daring the other to do something but neither did anything. After a few moments, Ajax shook his head and looked away angrily.

"Fine." He gritted his teeth and closed his eyes once again. "Commodare fort.i.tudinem meam." In a second, she took a large breath and stood firmly on her own two feet. Ajax's body sagged a little as if he gave her some of his strength while she smiled at him and chuckled.

Was it possible that Ajax knew magic as well?

"Time for you to go. Coeperunt." He disappeared as Alexandra growled and grabbed her s.h.i.+rt roughly. Ever since yesterday night, she's been rather violent which worried me but I a.s.sumed it was mate troubles. Her mate was an a.s.sa.s.sin after all.

"Where is he?!" She roared angrily at her when I shoved Alexandra off Xenon and bared my teeth at her, surprising the both of us. Even with this att.i.tude, she had no right to attack her since Xenon saved the pack from many deaths.

"I sent him home with his sister. I know she is worried about his well being. I've gotta go. My boss is waiting for me. If you don't want that vampire dead, I advise you hide her well." She winks at me making my heart leap before Xenon started walking but stopped shortly. "Also. If I was you, I'd make sure there are no traitors in my pack. Just what I'd do if I was an Alpha." Xenon shrugged and snapped her finger, disappearing before us.

Alexandra was still staring at me, bewildered of my actions towards her when she was handling Xenon. To be honest, I was more surprised by the fact I even defending Xenon.

The killer.

How could I-

"What was that?! I get it, she has a nice body but-"

"Alex..." I whispered, finally realizing why I was acting this way before looking up at her in pure shock. "I think Xenon is my mate."
