7 Chapter 7:

What the...

What was that...?

I watched as Xenon disappears within the forest, using her snapping trick to vanish within the trees without a trace. Her body still visibly shaking in anger or... sorrow?

I wasn't sure what the issue with the question was, though it did confirm that she was a witch and that whatever I felt for her wasn't a hex created by her. Which that fact caused several problems concerning me with Faye and Xenon.

Both of them... I felt something I can't explain for either one and yet they were two completely different people.

Faye was a quiet and reserved woman who had a temper but seemed to have a troubled past while Xenon was literally a murderer.

So different yet my feelings were so similar to both women.

With Faye, I felt like we connected on so many levels like she understood the issues of belonging with a family who didn't understand her. She was so heroic to save that child even though it was clear she was not a fan of children.

Xenon, on the other hand, she was devilish and dangerous. Her thirst of blood seemed to make something within me rise out of me and beg me to control her will. To force her to my will. She was a killer yet I could tolerate her pet names and her amus.e.m.e.nt to challenge my authority.

She hasn't got the memo that trying to challenge me irritates the living s.h.i.+t out of me.

Though tonight she learned that challenging my authority in public suffers in harsh results. Well... To me, it wasn't harsh.

It only reinforced my feelings for the cold-blooded killer.

"Zavier. Where is she? Some pack members told me she followed you here." The beta, Alexandra, questions while she walked over to me with authority in her step with her mate in tow behind her looking around for Xenon.

"She disappeared. Here. She gave me this with some information about Faye's stalker." I handed her the folder when frowning and crossing my arms. "What do you know about witches hexing people Ajax?" I ask him while the color in his face drained immediately making Alexandra s.h.i.+ft her attention to her mate.

"H-Hex...?" He repeats the question, looking like he saw death himself and that says a lot about a killer being afraid. I wasn't sure whether it terrified me or not to see two cold-blooded killers look such a way at the mere mention of hexing.

"Hey. Are you alright babe?" Alexandra reached out to Ajax but he flinched and took a step back when raking his hand down his face. It was concerning to see him this way, even when he revealed himself to us.

He was... cool and calm.

Then here he is growing nervous and horrified.

"Why are you asking Zavier...? Did... Did Xenon say anything about it...?" He asks while still in disbelief, his eyes clouded by memories that seemed to scare both of the worst killers in the league of a.s.sa.s.sins.

"No. I found out she was a witch and asked if she hexed me-"

"What the f.u.c.k is wrong with you?!" Ajax was fast to grab my s.h.i.+rt tightly, his hazel eyes s.h.i.+fting quickly when Alexandra took hold of his arm quickly.

"Ajax! Let go now!" She ordered dangerously, his will bending to his mate while he narrowed his eyes at me in a dark and menacing way.

"How could you even think that a witch like herself even do that?! That's dark magic and it nearly killed her last time!" He roared before Alexandra tore him off me and put some distance between the both of us.

His chest was heaving angrily just like Xenon's was while Alexandra stood in between the both us, preventing her mate from attacking me again. I was in utter shock by his words, hearing his words over and over again.

'It nearly killed her last time!'

The thought of her nearly dying broke my heart more than I would have liked to admit, but it was insane how hexing scared them. I couldn't believe it.

What had happened to them both?

"Now. Explain yourself now." She growls at her mate, looking at him with calm and collected eyes when he slumped down.

"I... I can't. I have no right to say what happened to her, but let me tell you, a.s.shole." He pointed at me, drawing me back to look at him. Shockingly, there were some tears in his eyes that seemed real. "You d.a.m.n well know what the f.u.c.k you're doing or else I will come for you and f.u.c.king kill you. You understand?" His voice was deadly for the first time I met him.

Even when we captured him, he saw the humor and praised us for trapping us and taking him against his will. You could tell that a trained killer like himself is always placed in situations like the one we put him in.

But the fury and misery that was in his eyes right at the moment... it was so frightening to witness at first hand and I've never felt this way before. Is this how all a.s.sa.s.sins are...?

Ajax scoffed angrily before turning away from us and s.h.i.+fted into his dark brown wolf while darting for the woods making Alexandra called out to him with a desperate voice.

"I've never seen someone from the league act that way. No less their top two killers..." I mumble, hearing his words in my head again when she sighed and turned to me once again.

"I've only known him for a week but... I've never seen him so afraid..." She paused for a moment, glancing back into the forest he disappeared in and released a troubled breath of air. "Whatever those people did to him. They will pay." Alexandra promises before s.h.i.+fting into her blonde wolf and chasing after her mate.

I continued standing there, feeling guilty of a.s.suming that Xenon had hexed me though could she even blame me?

She was after all.

The prized possession of the league of a.s.sa.s.sins.

〰 Faye/Xenon 〰

"Hey... I'm not going to be able to make it into work today..." I told my boss over the phone, my hood s.h.i.+elding the rain from getting the phone even wetter than before.

It'd been hours since I've heard the traitorous words come out of Zavier's mouth. It'd been countless horrific memories that raced through my mind while I thought back to my experience of hexing someone.

Though could I even blame him...?

He saw me as a killer like I am.

I have no right to be upset by his accusation.

A sigh came from the other side of the phone, sounding clearly irritated with my attendance these last few days.

It wasn't really my fault, I saved a child!

Couldn't I get some kind of break?

"Alright... But I expect your attendance after this to be on point rather than this bull s.h.i.+t you pull every day. Understand?" He growled as I didn't even bother to snap at him about his att.i.tude towards me.

"Yeah..." I murmured, hanging up and slipping my phone back into my pocket before pulling off my hood to allow the water to run over my face.

My hair was tied up in a bun but I had released it earlier due to my need to rake my fingers through my hair stressfully. The makeup that was on my face and covering my eyes had washed away and left me with the broken and upset Faye underneath the killer Xenon.

If any wolf saw me right at the moment, they would know exactly who I am.

Not like I truly cared right at the moment...

I was seen as a monster in those around me, even Ajax saw me as a monster after I hexed that man...

"There you are." A voice breathed hard against the rain while I glanced back at him and peered into his brown eyes. "Faye..." Ajax walked over to me in quick steps before dropping to the ground in front of me and pressed his head against my shoulder. "I'm sorry about him. I never thought he'd-"

"Please, Ajax... Don't say anything about it. It hurts to remember." I plead, the upcoming memories resurfacing when I clenched my eyes shut tightly. His head rested on my shoulder, giving me some kind of comfort since we've never been one to give it out.

"Alright... Just don't think much about it, Faye." He whispers while I smiled sadly and hung my head a little bit in shame of letting my emotions get a little out of hand.

He's right.

I shouldn't think much about it if I do.

It'll destroy me mentally.

I couldn't blame Zavier for a.s.suming that accusation anyway. Though I truly wanted to blame him for my pain right now. If he hadn't figured out that I was a witch, then this wouldn't have happened.

I didn't know that if you don't bite a stranger after kissing them you're automatically a witch.

Oh well.

There's was nothing I could do to change his mind.

"Holy s.h.i.+t..." Someone whispered in disbelief when we both looked up from the pouring rain and saw a shocked girl that was with Zavier.

A wolf...

Before either of them could realize what happened, I shot up from the ground and chanted some words with my hand outstretched. She continued staring at me with complete shock, her blonde hair attached to her skin due to the rain.

"Eris tacens usque ad finem dierum, aut c.u.m vestris consentiunt." I cursed her, not wanting my ident.i.ty being caught while a string of bright white ancient words flew through the air and circled around her neck like a collar.

The bright light revealing her surprised expression and the deadly red in my eyes when Ajax jumped to his feet and shoved my hand in a different direction.

"What did you just do?! You cursed her?!" Ajax hollered at me angrily when I dropped my hand back on my side and slowly slipped my hood back on. One wolf seeing me was enough for now.

He was finished with me now that she was here.

"I put a low-level curse on her. It's just a silencer so she won't out me." I told him seriously as she grasped her neck, the inscription disappearing within her skin but not physically affecting her. "It won't harm her in any way. Why do you even care that much?" I ask him not even sure why he cared so much.

I was protecting her anyway.

"Faye... She's my mate." He admits when I froze up and s.h.i.+fted my gaze at him in disbelief. "I'm leaving the league, Faye. If I have to... I will bring them all down even you to live my life with her." Ajax says seriously as I clenched my hands tightly and looked away from him and laughed humorlessly.

"You've always been the weak one to emotions... To think you'd one day be greater than me." I smiled and took a few steps back to near the edge of the roof I was sitting on top of us. "I understand... I will tell them for you-"

"Faye d-"

"It's okay. Just be ready because they may send me and I won't go easy." I promise, showing him my lightening red eyes that burned in the rain as I smiled and looked over at his mate. "Take care of him for me. I'll be sending your things over to the pack house. And you don't have to worry about me killing your alpha yet. There's someone after me and Zavier cares for Faye's safety. I will one day, have to make the decision whether to murder him in cold blood or save him." I said truthfully, not sure whether I wanted to even kill him anymore since he's different than I originally thought.

"Don't Faye. They're going to kill you if you tell them in their face." He pleads taking a step towards me when I smiled for the first time in a while and looked up at me.

The smile seemed to send s.h.i.+vers straight down their spins as I sighed happily, thinking about his words in more of an amus.e.m.e.nt mindset. At least I know he cares for my well-being, but this wasn't the time to be emotional.

I am Xenon after all.

"Oh, darling. I'm Xenon. The f.u.c.king worst of the worst. The devil herself. Never forget I can murder you both without even sparing a breath. No one can kill me." I promise with a devious smile while sparing a glance over at his mate who was still in shock. "Have fun, love. The a.s.sa.s.sins we know play very dirty. Once they know he's left the league they will come for the both of you." I said before stepping over the edge and snapping my finger to disappear.
