5 Chapter 5:

My head still throbbed in slight pain but not nearly as bad as before. Though I wished I had more time to review my notes before I met the man once again.

However, it was strange to hear him calling to me through the wolf radio. It was even stranger to find out that there was a wolf radio but it was only heard by wolves.

They somehow used some kind of magic to make it only heard by some of our kind.

I would love how to construct magic like that. But I wasn't here for a social meeting.

"No. That was not me." I jumped off the tree branch I was on and pulled out the letters I found in the man's car. "I want to kill the motherf.u.c.ker who tried killing her. These are letters from the intoxicated wolf from another a.s.sa.s.sin that is supposedly here." I held the papers to him, the dark green in his eyes revealing how untrustworthy I was but he took the letters anyway.

"How do I know you're not lying to me?" He questions, skimming through the letters as I s.h.i.+fted my jacket and lifted it to reveal an old scar that was functioning as a way to get his trust.

"He caused this to me." The scar was from a whip a year ago, the job I was working on had killed more people than scheduled and I was punished for it. I luckily kept the details of those killings from them or else they would have murdered Ajax. "Snuck up on me yesterday after our conversation. Believe me, I am going to bathe in this a.s.shole's blood." I promised to him, letting my jacket fall and taking a few steps.

"s.h.i.+t. Why do you think he is after Faye and you?" Zaiver asks, folding the letters and stuffing them in his pocket.

"I'm not sure." I shrug completely serious while thinking about who wanted both of us dead. "They could be trying to steal my job by killing me and reporting back since you have my partner." I shrug, thinking that was the only plausible idea there could be for trying to kill both me and 'Faye'.

"But how would they know I'm close with Faye?" He questions me as I gave him a stupid look.

"Are you really asking that question right now? You're practically her stalker." I note, hating that he was always where I was.

"Whatever." He rolled his eyes, examining me for a second and sighs. "We know your partner is Faye's brother, but we aren't sure how he got involved with you. How'd both of you meet?" Zaiver crosses his arms across his chest while I chuckled humorlessly, loving that I could fool him.

"That's for me to know and for you to find out. Here. I'll make you a deal." I said, a growing grin rising on my face when walking over to him. "You find out who I am and what... relations.h.i.+p I have with Faye's brother is and you can do what you want with me. However, if you don't..." I smirked up at him, looking him straight in his eyes. "I get to have my partner back and I want complete control of you. Darling." I purred, brus.h.i.+ng my fingers against his cheek and feeling some zaps.

"How do I even win in this deal?" He questions with a slight growl, reaching for me when I jumped back.

"Oh. You just have to take a leap of faith with me, darling. I am sacrificing everything in working with you to find the f.u.c.ker who harmed me and your lover. I expect to not be attacked." I told him seriously as he took a step forward.

"That means you can not harm my men or women. They are off limits and I want to meet every day." He compromises, the growing grin on face never seeming to stop when my eyes s.h.i.+ned brightly red at him.

"Then it's a deal. Darling." I whispered before disappearing in the tree line behind me with a seductive smile that screamed.

I just won.

I stood off to the side, thinking about what had happened and what I was getting myself into. My mind was racing with possibilities however I was almost a hundred percent that I would see Ajax somewhere around here.

Currently, I was at the town cookout that supposedly happened every few months throughout the year that brought the town together. It was stupid and irrelevant but it was actually kind of nice that this was such a tight knitted community.

"Faye. It's nice to finally see you again." Zavier said with a hint of caution when I glanced up and smiled softly at him.

"Yeah. It took a while to recover from the accident. I hope you understand." I turned towards him, finally noticing the woman beside him who looked very unpleased to see me for some odd reason.

The vibes she was giving off were very hostile but it wasn't like she could touch me.

"It's alright. I understand don't worry..." He seemed fairly awkward with me however I could feel that was due to the late night meetings with Xenon. She was very... difficult at times. "Are you doing alright?" He asks finally noticing my demeanor as I shrugged and sighed.

"I don't feel comfortable speaking my troubles in front of a complete stranger. Sorry, but excuse me." I walked around Zavier, knowing if he truly wanted to speak with me he would push the other woman away.

Not like I care whether the woman and him are close.

Just didn't want her finding out my motive for getting her away from us.

The fewer people who know me the better.

"Hey. Hey." Zavier spun around grabbing my shoulder softly making me look over my shoulder and at the pair. "Could you give us a moment, Terra?" He questions the well put together woman as she nodded and walked off in a different direction.

I stood there awkwardly, pulling my arm from his grasp and taking a small step back to place some s.p.a.ce between both of us.

"What's wrong? You know I will do anything to make you happy." He said with a gentle smile that seemed to hurt the very darkness that controlled my life only making my chest tighten a little bit.

"It's my brother... He hasn't returned and I feel it's all my fault... I pushed him too hard and I shouldn't have... To be honest I don't even want to be here but the elderly couple next door reminded me I may see him here... Probably false hope though." I sigh, wrapping my arms around myself as he stayed quiet for a split second before grabbing my hand.

"Come here." Zavier pulled me out the act I was playing and further into the cookout he was hosting. I wasn't sure what he was going to do so I pulled my hand back in reflex.

"Where are you taking me?" I question not liking that I was about to walk in the unknown. His smile improved, seeing that I was clearly back to normal while he chuckled and grabbed my hand again, drawing a few people to look at me.

"I saw your brother, Faye." He grinned down at me when I chocked on the air in my throat, letting out a sharp cough that seemed to surprise him.

He was taking him to me?!

If he was out here, I would have smelt him by now!

"Where is he? Zavier, please tell me." I gripped at his collar, pulling him closer to my face so he could see my glorious acting skills. His eyes darkened to a deep emerald green while I could see his hands twitching in the corner of my eyes.

"I'll bring you to him. Come." Zavier grabbed my hand again, this time his fingers interlocking with mine making my face twitch a little bit in revulsion. Hating people holding my hands so tenderly when all they've done is kill.

But I allowed him, convincing myself that it was for my act though I couldn't help how protected I felt at that moment.

It was... nice.

We pushed through the noisy crowd of pack members, there stares resting on our hands and the grin that was blossomed on Zavier's face. I wasn't sure why he was smiling so much, but I was a little overwhelmed that his first priority was to improve Faye's mood.

My first priority was getting Ajax out of here without being found out by everyone. Which may not be hard since we were in fact siblings.

"Oh shut up a.s.shole. I'm as terrible as you think." Ajax's voice came through to me making me stop immediately and listen more to the laughing conversation. "I'm sure my sister is fine. Sometimes she causes me more problems than anything. We've been with each other forever, it's finally nice to be away from her." He says truthfully while I s.n.a.t.c.hed my hand from Zavier and brushed past the crowd of people who were blocking my view of Ajax.

He was leaned up against the wall of the pack house, his arm slung over a young woman's shoulder while she smiled up at him sweetly. A few men stood around him acting like he wasn't a killer but I knew they knew.

Everyone knew he was Xenon's partner and a killer just as much as I was.

So why...

Why was he accepted...?

"Ajax..." I murmur, watching his face snap to my gaze while he straightened his back and peered down at the girl under his arm.

"I'll be back, babe." He leaned down, pressing his lips to her forehead before walking over to me and grabbing my arm. "We need to talk." His touch was burning on my arm as I numbly followed him along, knowing I was being ridiculous but hurt by what I just saw.

He brought me away enough for them not to hear us when I blended our voices within the crowds so none of the wolves could hear us. His hazel eyes seemed... more alive and happy which was the exact opposite I expected to see.

"What the f.u.c.k," I growl angrily, not even caring about the act I was supposed to uphold. "You aren't supposed to be having fun Ajax. They know you are Xenon's partner. Do you have any idea how hard it is to live several different lives and the fact I have to cover for you once again?" I snap at him.

"Calm down. It's not like you've been stuck in this house all week." He huffs like a child while I twitched in anger.

"Are you kidding me?! I've had people after me and they nearly rammed me with a car. I don't care whether you were kidnapped, you have to find a f.u.c.king way out of th-"

"Are things alright over here? I couldn't help but seeing you both arguing." The same woman from earlier questions us, destroying the conversation we were having when I clenched my fists tightly and glared up at Ajax.

"I'll send your things over, brother." I sneer, shoving past the girl and leaving the cookout.
