36 Chapter 36:

She continued to sob in my arms as I held onto her tightly, not wanting to risk her harming herself or anyone around us. I also just wanted to hold onto her since I truly felt connected with the girl that is my son's mate.

She'd protected me and when faced to me with the darkness around her, she held her ground and resisted the power that threatened to kill everyone around her. I knew that she was going through s.h.i.+t but I never expected her to have found her biological parents.

Or for her to call me her father.

My heart clenched at the thought of her seeing me as her only parental figure, proud to even be able to call myself someone she could rely on. I never thought I'd get close to a killer- no less Xenon- but I never thought that an a.s.sa.s.sin like her would be so... damaged.

She had the life at the league.

She had riches, men, and was wors.h.i.+ped by everyone around her.

It was as if she was the G.o.ddess of the killers and the flocked at the sight of her.

Yet she left that all behind just for all of us. She developed emotions that she had no idea how to describe and refused to harm my son even if that caused her to be on the run for the rest of her life.

When Ajax, Alex's mate, told me all of this. Telling all of us about everything they'd gone through and what he'd only suspected when the doors were shut in front of him.

It was horrific to even think a young girl could go through all of that, let alone an a.s.sa.s.sin.

He told me privately that Faye has never fit in but once we returned from saving the child. Her mind on parents changed which was strange of him to know but he let me know that he taps into her mind when she's resting at times.

The connection Faye and Ajax has is so precious that I knew either one couldn't live without the other.

Thinking about everything I'd learned about Faye had caused me to swallow my pride and accept her silently though I knew my mate had still despised her it didn't matter at the time.

Faye needed me for the moment.

"I'm sorry... So so so sorry." She repeated over and over again, her hand holding onto my arm tightly when I rested my cheek on her head and squeezed my eyes closed tightly.

Claire, the young witch, and her vampire were close beside us while the vampire groaned loudly making Faye shudder. I heard my mate counseling Alex and Ajax, trying her best to help them.

I wasn't sure where Nava was but I knew she didn't feel bad about biting Faye with all her strength. Nava could care less about what happens to a witch.

She's always hated them for some reason.

"Daniel. We've gotta meet up with Zavier. He's expecting us at the coven." Alican, my mate, tells me quietly as she helped Ajax stand up with Alex's help. I nodded and swept Faye off the ground, hating that she was weak yet again in my presence but understandable now.

"Can you stand, Laine?" Claire asks the vampire when I noticed that he was now awake but very weak.

"Don't worry about me, Bride." His voice was scratchy and the sound made Faye apologize yet again. Her blood dripped down my arm, the wound at her stomach a deep bite that Nava gladly gave her. I noticed Nava off to the side, uns.h.i.+fted and sharpening her knife that she brought with her in a bag.

She's one of our best trackers, but she's also one that has anger issues when it comes to anything mystical. I'll have to ask her about the rage she has when mages are brought up. But for now, we all fall in a comfortable silence as we walked to meet up with Zavier.

"Faye! Darling!" A woman cried out at the sight of Faye curled in my embrace, her blood staining my clothes. The woman was wearing a white cape with soft facial features that looked so much like Faye's making me stop before she came up to us.

That has to be Faye's biological mother.

The crisp dark red hair ran all the way down to her waist as her grey eyes stared down at Faye. A frown on her face but a worried look flas.h.i.+ng in her eyes when she reached to me.

"Sana." She whispered underneath her breath, a bright glow coming from her hands making Nava growl but she held her place. Faye groaned and opened her eyes but they seemed so weak that I was sure she couldn't see very well. "Somnum. You're okay now." The woman's voice was so soft that it caused Faye to drift back to sleep.

"Come. I will show you all your rooms." Another woman that looked almost exactly like Faye says, her sharp coldness narrowing at me for a moment before leading the others away and into the gates of the coven. Alican looked at me as I nodded for her to go ahead of me.

"What happened?!" The woman healing Faye questions, her voice hard and angered at the sight of the bite wound.

"Well. It looks like a bite mark." Nava says, her att.i.tude angering the woman even more but Nava refused to leave my side. Probably because Alin ordered her to keep an eye on me for her.

I know that my mate wanted to see Zavier and speak with him. I only hoped she smacked some sense into him.

"Was it you that hurt my daughter?" The woman snarls and affirmed my thoughts. Her grey eyes snapping into a violent red much like how Faye's did when she grew angry.

"Your daughter?" Nava snickered and pushed off the tree and came over us, ignoring the look I was giving her. "This woman doesn't deserve people who threw her out. You witches are just selfish-"

"That's enough, Nava," I warn as she shut her mouth and glared up at me though nothing else came out of her mouth. "Faye attacked us first. We were only protecting ourselves." I told the woman that was staring at Nava with a death glare.

"Right. That's to be expected at this time right now. Come. I will bring you and Faye to the medical wing to get proper treatment. The same goes for any that are hurt." The woman nods and spun around. She motioned for us to follow her while Nava hesitated then followed behind with me.

I knew that she was going to be on high alert, but this is something we have to do.

Faye groaned yet again, clutching onto my bloodied s.h.i.+rt tightly when I felt my defenses drop. I knew that she'd freak once she awoke and I refused to leave her sight until I knew she was alright.

Without another thought, I stepped through the gates of the coven and followed blindly behind the mysterious woman.

〰 Faye 〰

A sharp pain ran through me causing me to whine out loud and reach to my stomach. The bandages on them felt slick and wet with what I hoped was sweat but I knew better than to think that.

Wait.

Bandages?

I s.h.i.+fted and noticed that I was laying on a bed that felt oddly familiar. My eyes felt heavy as I struggled to open my eyes and noticed a shadow over me.

There was a faint beeping somewhere within the room making my mind race to the thought of being somewhere with medical equipment. I knew that the pack house would have medical equipment like this but I wasn't sure if the coven would.

"Faye...?" A mumbled voice called out my name making me turn my head and noticed the shadow that was covering the blazing light from above. The lights making me squint against the shadow. "Turn the lights off." The voice growled before the bright light flicked off giving me some kind of relief.

I tried saying something but my voice broke with the pressure, several coughs leaving me.

"Don't speak. You're still healing and getting used to the new blood in your system. You're going to feel drowsy for a little while." The voice told me when I closed my eyes and reached up to rub my eyes though an IV prevented me from doing so. "Careful. You need the fluids after going through the blood transfusion." The voice started to morph around a male's persona, the fog in my eyes clearing up.

The person helped me rub at my eyes, making sure to be very careful. They leaned away and continued holding onto my hand which I hadn't realized before.

Who was this?

Was it Zavier?

At the thought of it being Zavier, I started trying to remove my hand from theirs. My chest swells with the relived pain of remembering about the who mate.

I thought I'd be fine if we could just forgive one another for lying to one another, but he couldn't understand the pain and misery it felt when I thought he had another woman. It was as if my who world fell apart and I encouraged it.

I knew I shouldn't be upset anymore since I lied about who I was, but I couldn't help the tears that built in my eyes.

"Hey don't do that. No bad." The voice growls, unsure of what to do making me realize it wasn't Zavier. I wasn't sure whether to be more upset or happy it wasn't him. "G.o.d d.a.m.n it." The man curses and rubbed my cheeks carefully.

I covered my face with my hand and tried turning towards the equipment, not wanting to be seen this way. The man stayed there and didn't move from his seat on the bed beside me. Just staying there to let me know he was there for me even if Zavier wasn't.

A hand rested on my shoulder, giving me the small comfort and that's exactly what I needed.

We stayed there for a while, both of us not saying a word. The only sound was my crying that made me feel incredibly weak.

I knew that I shouldn't be crying over something that didn't matter much, but I couldn't help it. I've held it in for so long that it was all coming out in waves.

When my tears finally dried up, I felt the sudden courage to demand answers from Zavier and my biological parents. My fingers went around the IV in my hand before I pulled it out and slipped my legs from the warm blankets.

The sharp beeping went into a full-blown ring making the hand on my shoulder pus.h.i.+ng me down on the bed. My eyes snapped up to the person, noticing it was Daniel hoovering over me with a relieved look.

"Why'd you do that?" He questions with a growl as I pushed his hand off me and forced myself to sit up on the bed.

"I need answers." My voice was dry and you could barely tell what I said, but I was sure he understood what I was saying.

"He's not gonna let you get up, witch." A sharp voice says from the corner of the room, the woman watching me with dark hazel eyes when she flipped the page of a magazine. "We've been in here for days. No one has entered other than me and the doctors." She told me, the familiar coldness reminding me of Archmage Seri my sister.

It was strange to even think I had a sister but I pushed those thoughts away.

But I had a feeling that it wasn't her in the corner of the room.

"Good thing I wasn't talking to you, mutt." I sneer, getting a dark glare from the woman as she s.h.i.+fted the magazine in front of her face. My attention turned to Daniel, the smile on his lips warming me up a little. "Are we at the pack house?" I ask him, unsure of the place but it felt familiar to me.

"No. We are at the coven, but as Nava told you. You haven't been bothered by anyone. My son's been antsy so I removed him from the room and he's been all over the place trying not to bother you too much as you rested." Daniel told me as I slowly nodded and sat up once again, my stomach throbbing.

"I feel terrible," I admit making the girl, Nava, laugh.

"That's my handy work." She informs me proudly.

"I don't like you," I confess to her with my eyes narrowed at her.

"Likewise." She says with a short nod before going back to her magazine.

For some reason, she reminded me of much how I was back then. Though I could care less about the snappy woman in the corner.

"Where is everyone?" I ask, suddenly remembering Claire and the others.

"They are around here somewhere. Ajax though is probably still in bed rest since Alex has been forcing him to rest. Claire and Laine are probably training since Claire's never been in a coven. My mate's probably hanging out with a few of the elderly witch's. She tends to radiate towards drama." He shrugged with a tired smile.

"I want to speak with High Priest Ivan and High Priestess Dawn. I have things I want to say to them. Oh and Zavier as well." I nod, not wanting to wait another moment to get answers from the people that's caused me h.e.l.l.

"Alright. Let me help you off the bed so you don't fall. Nava pierced one of your lungs and the healing process has been relentless. Dawn has been in here several times to heal you but was dragged out of here by Ivan. He didn't stay here long since-"

"Ah ah. It's not that the witch didn't want to stay here. The previous Alpha has repeatedly thrown him and the woman witch out of here in a second." Nava spoke for Daniel earning a sharp glare from him. I chuckled to myself, knowing that's exactly what Daniel would do for me since he knew how much it troubled me for them to be around me.

"As expected. Thank you, Daniel. Also, thanks for nearly killing me Nava." I said sarcastically, getting a 'you're welcome' in response.

Daniel shook his head, displeased but not saying a word before helping me off the bed and holding me against his side. Nava groans, standing up and following us while he helped me out of the hospital room and to find answers that I needed.
