29 Chapter 29:

"Yeah. I'm still a little bit sore but I am doing a lot better. Are you alright?" He questions when I sighed and pushed away from him and looked up at him.

"They're offering me a place for me to stay here. They want to train me and see my level of power." I told them as he nods and tucks a piece of my hair behind my ear.

"You should take that offer. You wanted to find your biological parents, didn't you?" He reminds me when I sigh again and got off of the small bed and wrap my arms around myself.

"Jerson lied about everything. What if this isn't even the coven where my parents are? There's no ounce of evil here. My parents got rid of me and they had to have been evil in order to throw away a baby." I thought out loud while Zavier tucked the blanket around his legs.

"Who says that your biological parents got rid of you?" He admits making me look at him confused. "Think about it. Jerson was not even going to bother coming into the coven and we don't even know why. The league must have had a reason to come to this coven because there was another coven around the pack house. Also don't you remember Archmage Seria and her paranoia of having people here? There could be a reason for that." Zavier explains to me when I shrugged and ran a hand through my hair.

"I don't know Zavier. All of this is hurting my head and I am tired of being here. I just want you to be safe and-"

"Xenon. I am safe. Don't worry." He a.s.sures me as I shook my head and looked away from him. "Come here." He held his arms open for me, compelling me to walk over and hug him back. Even though he was hurt still, he held onto me tightly. "I think this will be good for you. Most of your anger comes from the fact you were abandoned by your parents and this place may be able to give you the answers you want." He tells me seriously, trying his best to comfort me.

"Are you sure? The league knows where we are." I remind him as he chuckles though it sounds painful.

"This is going to be the safest place we can be. The league won't go after my pack. They aren't smart enough to know that kind of connection. Plus. You don't need to worry about me. Find the answers to your past here." He sounds so sincere about it when I hooked my arms around his neck and looked up at him.

"You won't leave, will you? I don't want to be here alone." I admit as he smirked and kissed the crown of my head.

"Of course not. You are, in fact, my mate after all." He says making me laugh and roll my eyes.

"Stop messing with me." I shove him back a little, standing up and grabbing the cape that High Priest Ivan left for me.

"I'm not lying, Xenon." He said seriously as I looked back at him a little hurt from him insisting.

"Stop joking around, Zavier. It's not funny anymore." I mumbled, putting the cape around my shoulders and clipping it in front of me.

"Xenon... I'm not joking. We are mates. I am also Faye's mate. You both are my mate." His tone was completely serious when I turned to him and looked at him.

"You- You lied to me this whole time?" I ask betrayed when he hurried to my side and grasped my hand tightly.

"Of course not. You just never said anything about us being together." He simply defends as I tried pulling my hands away from him, but he held onto them tightly.

"You're getting married! I'm not your mate you, jacka.s.s!" I scream, feeling myself lose control while I tried shoving him away but failed miserably.

"No, I'm not! Ajax said the only way to get you to come out of hiding is to make a rumor! It was the only way to get you to come back to me! I can't lose both of my mates! Please, Xenon!" He pleaded me before I scoffed and grinned evilly at him.

"Oh yeah? Guess what dumb a.s.s! I'm Faye!" I yelled with a hysterical laugh, allowing my true form come forth once again. My luscious red hair came back, the dark redness in my eyes returning instead of the innocent blue. "You're a f.u.c.king idiot! I've been the same person this whole time and you didn't even realize!" I shouted, his face morphed in pain and anger of being lied to when I pushed him, this time he let me go. "I guess it doesn't feel nice to be lied to huh?" I taunt, turning away from him.

"I can't f.u.c.king believe you. I thought you'd be the one person who'd never lie to me!" He yells at me while I spun around and faced him.

"I'm Xenon! The darkest d.a.m.n witch from the league of a.s.sa.s.sins! I was sent to murder your guts! Sent to torture until you had no strength left! Who in their right mind would trust a monster like me?!" I scream at him as he reached out to me but I got out of the way before he could touch me. "Don't be so surprised that I am not what you expected! And don't be hurt because I fell for you and here we are both of us lying to one another! You're no better than me you backstabbing a.s.shole!" I snap, turning away from him and going to the door.

As soon as I opened it, I felt my body being slammed against the hallway walls. Zavier held onto my arms tightly, kicking into my reflexes.

I kicked my foot up at him causing him to hit the opposite side of the hallway, my hands quick to throw a gust of wind at him. But he was strong enough to break through it even with his wounds.

He tried landing a punch in my face, though he missed and hit the wall beside my head. His hand went through the wall as I glared at him and sent my foot into his stomach once again.

"Back off, a.s.shole!" I shout, throwing up a wall to prevent him from getting close to me while I ran towards an exit. He was able to break through my wall easily, catching up to me faster when I jumped on top of a table and spun around.

My foot landed on his face, finding he was closer than I antic.i.p.ated as he dropped to the ground. I dropped down to the ground and resumed my run but he caught my arm before I could run any farther.

"Auferetur!" I scream, a large gust of wind knocking him back when he dropped to the ground. "Veni fructum lupum!" I rose a wolf from beside me, as it knocked him back down, preventing him from standing up when I spun around and ran into someone. "Ignis!" A large burst of fire came between the both of us, the person jumping away from me when I tore the back door open and hurried out of it.

I have to escape.

I have to escape.

I have to escape.

I chanted in my head, though I was stopped quickly by several high-cla.s.s mages ready to attack me. The young mages by the gate looking at me in pure shock as I heard someone coming from behind me.

"No... Not now. I have to go." I whisper to myself before I closed my eyes and took some of the energy the coven was giving me. "Ignis, Ventus, aqua et terra. Hinc mihi auxilium, et iter evadere!" I let my hands bring forth the power, refusing to be taken inside to face my issues while the elements I called forth came from within me.

The high-cla.s.s mages were so shocked they didn't realize the power of the elements coming at them. The intensity of my power knocked them all back as I ran past their defenses and blew of flame through their gate.

Escape!

I jumped through the hole in the gate, chaos and shocked shouts came from the coven behind me while I continued running. My chest was tight with the pain of being lied to and the fact that he would attack me.

It hurt so badly yet I was no better.

I hurt him even worse.

NO!

It was his fault!

I can't think about this!

My feet continued running, not caring where I was going while I jumped over a branch. Refusing to stop until I couldn't run anymore.

"Are you feeling better dear?" A soft, calming voice brought me out of my thoughts as I jumped and moved away from her. Her kind grey eyes looking sad while kneeling down and placing a blanket on me.

"High Priestess Dawn...?" I mumble, tears running down my face as she nodded and reached out to tuck some of my hair behind my ear.

"I finally get to see who you truly are. It was a lovely sight to see you use your powers so flawlessly. Strange magic indeed but very powerful." She smiled so motherly that it hurt to even look at her.

"What are you doing here?" I ask her when she sat beside me and rested her hand in her lap.

"I heard your fight with your mate. Very intense indeed. I wasn't aware you were going to tell him about your ident.i.ty so soon. Of course, I knew since I went through your memories, but I wasn't aware that such anger was within both of you to get into that situation." She notes when I buried my face into my knees once again and sniffed.

"I'm a horrible person," I confess, feeling another tear run down my face while she sighs and rested her palm on my shoulder.

"No dear. If my Ivan lied and fake an engagement with another woman with me I'd be angry as well. But how you told him about your true ident.i.ty could have gone better." She comments making me laugh humorlessly. "He's calmed down you know. Even asked for you." She tells me.

"He didn't leave?" I question, a little surprised and happy he kept his promise.

"Well. He tried going after you but my Ivan subdued him... He didn't have much of a choice." She informs me, the happy feeling I had disappearing.

"Why are you here High Priestess Dawn?" I ask her finally, unsure I wanted anyone with me right at the moment.

"Why. I am always there for my young mages. You are one of my children now. I was worried about you. Oh. And please call me Dawn honey." She informs when I pulled away from my knees and looked over at her.

"I'm a monster, Dawn. Not a normal mage who is lost in the woods. I'm not one of those people looking for redemption for what I've done." I said, looking down at the ground while saying these things to her.

I was being truthful with a woman I barely knew.

Great.

"I believe you are. I see it in your memory. The first time you met your mate. I know your heart started to work once again. I know that you started to feel, started to be happy again. The moment you decided to against the league of a.s.sa.s.sins was the moment you found that there was something to fight for. Your mate, your friends, yourself. If I didn't know any better. You began your redemption the first moment that case landed on your desk." Dawn tells me seriously when I looked at her.

She was right.

I didn't even realize that I changed.

The first time I met Zavier, I laughed. It may be dumb to even remember the takeout, but I do.

That moment seemed so dumb but... I felt most alive and felt myself gradually living once again.

All I needed was for someone to help me realize this.

"Thank you, Dawn." I thank her, reaching over to her and hugging her tightly. She smiled, hugging me back just as tightly while petting my hair down.

"There's no need to thank me, dear. I only helped you to this realization." She whispers, rubbing my back softly. "It's time to return. There's someone who will eventually miss you. But no more running from your problems." She tells me, letting me go as she stood up and held a hand down to me. "Come." I weakly grabbed her hand and allowed her to help me up.

I clutched onto the blanket, allowing her to guide me back to the coven where all the issues I abandoned waited for me.
