8 Chapter 8:

I glared at the man holding my mate close to him, not understanding how Nava could like a brute like himself. He was so violent and he was an a.s.sa.s.sin!

She hated a.s.sa.s.sins with everything she had inside of her!

He laid her down on the couch and sat down on the ground beside her, brus.h.i.+ng a lock of her black hair from her face. Jealousy flamed inside of me as I glanced over at the hazel haired woman who was speaking with Zavier.

I could give Nava so much better.

"Are you going to continue glaring at me or speak up, son?" The man beside Nava questions, giving me a sharp look that nearly knocked all the anger from out of me. I only narrowed my eyes, hating that he was referring to me like a little kid.

"That's my mate you're touching." I snap angrily and walked over to where they were and threw his hand away from Nava.

He looked genuinely surprised at the news and stood up with a displeased frown on his face. I only continued to glare at him but had to s.h.i.+ft since he was a few inches taller than me.

I suddenly felt very small.

"I feel bad for you then, kid. Your 'mate' sees more in me than she does in you. Why would she want a scrawny little guy like you? Could you even carry her like the princess she was? No? I didn't think so, so why don't you let her chose who she wants." The man shoved me carefully and turned around to go back to Nava's side.

I was getting so tired of people calling me weak and not worthy enough for her attention.

"Hey-"

"Dylan f.u.c.k off. These people want to heal her not you. You're a f.u.c.king demon. Go heal somewhere. She'll be here when you come back." His sister, Pairs, tells the man crowding around Nava as he growled and stood up.

He's a demon?!

"Don't be that way, Dylan. Go on. I'll contact you once she's awake." Pairs informed him as High Priestess Dawn and Faye hurried to Nava's side. Dylan merely stared at the women around Nava before sending a glare my way and leaving the living area.

I watched him leave the coven, slamming the door behind him as a sliver of his demon form came into my view. A s.h.i.+ver rippled through me at the thought of a demon with such power like himself going against a mage like myself. I knew even if I trained all my life, I'd never be able to beat him.

"Levi. We need your blood. A mate's blood will heal her quicker than anything else. She's too malnourished to heal by herself." Dawn calls me as I quickly rush to their sides and stare down at my mate.

She was mine whether Dylan wanted it or not.

We are meant to be together.

Dawn grabbed my arm and forced it close beside Nava, working her healing magic and transferring blood to my Nava. My blood floated in the air and entered into the small incision made by Faye.

Nava's pale dark skin worried me terribly, knowing that letting her leave with those a.s.sa.s.sins was a bad idea but I ignored my wishes. She would have left even with my protests.

Nava is too proud to admit when she needs help and that is such a bad thing because she can work herself to death much like what was happening when Faye and Nava were captured.

I worry for her well being and emotional state.

She's growing more and more depressed every day because of the loss of her family eating up at her. When finding all this out... I was devastated for my mate's past and how she lost everything to the a.s.sa.s.sins.

No one should ever witness a mate dying to protect her, her child dying from starvation, and having a miscarriage all in a span of weeks of being captured by a.s.sa.s.sins. The thought of her going through all that made me shake with anger and misery.

I don't even wish for my enemies to go through such pain, no less my mate.

"Stop thinking of thoughts like that, Levi. It will not help her healing process. You have to give her happy thoughts and memories, she will grow stronger faster if you do. As much as she doesn't want it, she has the mate bond with you and that connection will bring you both together eventually." Dawn tells me seriously as Faye nodded in agreement.

"She's right. The mate bond always wins in the end. It took Zavier and me two years to even stand in each other's presence without attacking one another. Just give her some time. She's already lost her family once, she may be afraid of that commitment again in fear of that happening once again." They're words made sense but I knew that I just wasn't her type at all.

Though I did have a little hope that maybe I could be her type, Faye had told me about her experience with her own mate and how different they were.

One an a.s.sa.s.sin and the other an Alpha.

Both of them polar opposites but still ending up together which was so inspiring to my case.

Nava was a pure lone wolf and I surrounded myself with friends and family, but now that I knew her story. I understood her need to be alone in fears of her love ones being ripped away yet again.

I wanted her to feel wanted and loved again, but she isn't letting me.

She's letting that b.a.s.t.a.r.d dragon do that for her.

"Good thoughts." Dawn reminds, reading my presence only annoying me but I stopped thinking about the f.u.c.ker Dylan and thought back to when I first met her.

Nava was standing proud and bare-a.s.sed in front of everyone, the throb of jealousy in my chest still resonating even now. She didn't care who was staring her down and she was oblivious to the pull towards us.

She was proud of attacking Faye so violently and I am still unsure of why she was but I was happy she was happy. The other wolves seemed either irritated or angry at her for what she did but they couldn't go against her like normal wolves within a pack.

My Nava was a special one that they needed in her pack.

I was so happy and naive to think that she'd run into my arms at the feeling of a mate bond. That her eyes would light up with happiness and she'd want to mate with me at that exact moment.

Though I was only met with the disgusted look and horrified expression she gave me at the feeling of a mate bond.

I was so hurt back then but determined to get into her good graces with a little pampering of my magic and cooking. Though she hated it and never admitted to loving the meals I mysteriously dropped off.

She never knew they were from me, but she'd enjoy them after a long day of hunting for something to satisfy her needs.

I was glad that she enjoyed the meals I made because that meant I had something that she'd cherish. That and because I was worried that she'd only eat if someone had constantly reminded her.

She'd never eaten before the daily meals I'd sent her before.

She's a bit stubborn at times and refuses her needs. Thankfully I am skilled at cooking more than magic sometimes.

But when I tried showing her some flashy magic that a few mages taught me, she nearly attacked me since she thought that I was attacking her.

Thankfully I have strong defense magic on hand that prevented her from actually harming me.

Now that I knew her past... It all made sense.

Why she hates mages.

Why she despised me.

Why she kept to herself at all times.

To think that my mate would be a simple girl.

I smiled down at my sleeping mate, her cheeks swollen in from not eating these past few weeks. Her gorgeous red lips taunting me to get a taste but I refused to take such a luxury from her.

High Priestess Dawn and Faye spoke to each other though I tuned them out and continued staring down at my lovely, yet stubborn mate. My hand wrapped around one of her as I leaned my face into her stomach.

Sparks roamed around us when my smile widened, the soft fabric of the dress on her causing me to grow more exhausted with every moment. I knew my exhaustion was because of the blood transfer but I'd give her all my blood if I knew she was going to be okay.

With that final thought, I felt myself dozing off on her lap. The feeling of her underneath me something my mind would always cherish for forever.

〰 Flashback 〰

'Don't be such a baby.' I laugh at Barack as he pouted with Lily at the kitchen table. He glanced over at me with an underlying smile but continued to pout like Lily.

'We want cake, babe.' Barack informs when Lily gave him a swift nod of approval. I laughed to myself, a large grin rising on my cheeks.

'It's too late! It is ten o'clock already and Lily has school in the morning. We're already letting her stay up later than usual but giving her a sugar rush as well? It's not very smart of you, Barack.' I point out as he stood up from our small dining room table and walked over to me.

'Come on. Just a small piece and then I'll take her upstairs. I'll read to her until she's tired, okay?' He softly kissed my shoulder, wrapping his arms around my stomach. 'Just wait for our little boy to be just as stubborn as Lily.' Barack says making me laugh and pat his hands.

'Boy? What makes you think we're gonna have a boy this time?' I question, untangling myself from his lovely hold and reaching into the fridge for the cake we had yesterday.

'I have a feeling.' He simply says while taking the cake from me and setting it on the counter.

'You said that last time, honey.' I remind him as he snickered and called Lily to us. Her excitement was bubbling when she ran over to us and jumped on the counter to see the cake.

'Oh come on. I was close enough.' He jokes making me burst in laughter.

'We had a girl. How was that close enough to a boy?' I question his playfulness, Lily not listening to our conversation at all.

'I had a fifty-fifty chance. Go eat that at the table, Lily.' Barack handed the joyful girl a plate with a small piece. Lily rushed over to the table, eager to have her slice when I shook my head at him with a smile.

'Well, you aren't the only one who thinks we're having a boy. I have a hunch as well.' I admit to him as he placed the cake in the fridge and gave me a glorious smile.

'I knew it!' He yelled loudly, not caring that the neighbors will get mad at us.

'I don't know for a fact, Barack! We could have another baby girl too.' I said quickly not wanting to get his hopes up, but I knew he wanted a son more than anything.

'Oh, babe. I'm happy with any gender. Having a child with you is better than anything. Whether the kid is a girl, boy, gay, or straight. I don't care. As long as it's with you, I'm happy with anything.' Barack says sweetly, pressing his lips on mine.

'Ew! Gross.' Lily gags at the sight making both of us laugh like high school kids again. I patted his face with a carefree grin while leaning away and rubbing my tiny baby b.u.mp.

'You've got a story to tell, hon. Better hurry up before I go to sleep or nothing will happen.' I wink, the action causing him to growl and throw Lily over his shoulder.

'Storytime!' He hollers, forgetting we lived in an apartment once again. I pressed a kiss to Lily's head before going to the table to put away her dish.

A smile played on my lips before I felt myself disappearing from the apartment and back into the real world.
