20 Chapter 20:

"Levi is not gonna be happy with you," Annie whispers as I opened my eyes and saw them both standing beside me.

"Come on. They both missed Christmas so we should treat her before he wakes up." Gerald tells her quietly, thinking I couldn't hear but I was a wolf after all.

"What if Levi wakes up first?" Annie questions before Gerald beamed down at me with a toothy grin.

"I'll make him sleep longer then. Good morning, Nava. How are you feeling?" He asks me, helping me sit up while I felt no soreness in my ribs.

"A lot better actually," I mumble a little surprised since my wolf was still suppressed from the wolf's bane I was injected with days ago. Gerald nods pleased and handed me a bundle of clothes.

"Get dressed. We are taking you out." He informs me while giving his annoyed mate a small push towards the door. "We just wanted to treat you to something that's all." He a.s.sures me when I watched him closely and cautiously.

They both left Levi and I before I sighed and slipped off the bed, my body not in any sort of pack other than the numbness from the wolf's bane. The lack of pain makes me wonder if Gerald did anything other than make me go to sleep...

I have no reason not to trust them, they've only treated me nicely and if not I knew Levi would be furious.

He would be there for me.

I will as well.

He quietly slept beside me, his injuries not looking any better than yesterday and even though I wanted to remain here and care for him. I wanted to know his parents and maybe even get him some things will I was out.

To help him with his bruises and just to gift him this once.

Tell him how sorry I am for everything.

A smile played on my lips before I walked over to the bathroom and changed into the tight grey turtleneck, fleece leggings, and a pastel pink skirt making my nose twitch a little.

I knew beggers can't be choosers but I truly hated this color.

Though I wanted to look a little good in front of his parents...

With an annoyed groan, I slipped the skirt up against my legs and pulled my hair from the tight bun. My hair had a mind of its own before it fuzzed out and puffed around my face making me look like a tired lion.

It took me a few minutes to pin it down with the few bobby pins I found in the ch.o.r.e, while I viewed my hair in the mirror. My hair was still a crazy mess but at least it looked a little tamed.

Without another second, I left the restroom and found a pair of grey boots at the end of the bed. A smile reached on my face as I slipped them on and went around the bed.

Levi's face was thoroughly stuffed into a pillow that had my scent on it when leaning down and pressing my lips on his shoulder.

"Rest well, Levi. I'll be back later." I mumble against his shoulder before leaning away and grabbing my bag that had my phone and wallet.

Thank G.o.d he held onto it for me for so long.

I'd have to treat him tonight somehow.

I quietly opened the door, Annie and Gerald waiting for me when they glanced up at me. The look they were giving me made my cheeks redden and look away uncomfortable.

"Lord Jesus. Our boy is way out of your league." Gerald comments out loud as Annie hit his shoulder.

"Levi is sweet, Gerald! Give him some credit!" Annie scolds him making me laugh and loop the strap around my shoulder.

"Are you going to make he continues to sleep? He's still injured and the mages have done everything they can for him. Maybe sleep will help him." I note when Gerald nods and brushed past me to walk into the bedroom.

"Dear let's go ahead and head downstairs. We can wait for Gerald downstairs." Annie a.s.sures me, taking my arm between hers and leading me away from the room with a large smile. "Gerald insisted we give you some girly clothes since we've only seen you in hunting clothes or torn up ones. This wasn't my idea but I love this outfit on you!" She claps happily when I laughed embarra.s.sed, waving my hand to her.

It's so strange to have someone say that to me.

"Thank you," I mumble as I braced myself for the day we were going to have.

"Gerald. Darling, could you be a dear and fetch me a... ice cream cake with peppermint on it?" Annie asks out of the blue while we walked around the mall, browsing stores that looked strange.

"Ice cream cake with peppermint? You do realize that this mall has nothing you-"

"I asked for ice cream cake with peppermint right now, dear. Could you be a doll and fetch for me?" She asks again when he grumble out a curse and marched out of the mall.

"Why did you ask for that? We just finished having lunch not even ten minutes ago." I point out, our lunch date full of laughter and stories about each other. It was the best lunch I've had in a long time and one I would not forget.

"I had to ask for something bizarre to get him away. Come on. I wanted to get you some clothes for Levi and you. I remember you saying during lunch you wanted to get him something for Christmas." Annie explains, tugging me into a nearby store when I laughed and nodded.

"Yeah. I wanted to get him something special just to let him know how much I care." I said as she chuckled and nodded in understanding.

"I know, honey. But trust me, you don't need to try that hard unless you don't want to be with him." She tells me, my face heating up at the thought of having s.e.x with Levi. We'd done some things but nothing close to doing that.

He probably didn't want to do that with me anyway.

He was still in a lot of pain.

"I don't know if I want to do that... Levi and I are still healing and all-"

"You don't have to tell excuses, dear. Levi told me about your past mate and family. It's okay to not want that yet, but let's get you some lingerie. You may change your mind about... your pained old back." She teased when looking through the racks of bright colored lingerie. The sight making my face go hot with embarra.s.sment.

I never expected Annie to want to go lingerie shopping with me.

This was so embarra.s.sing...

〰〰〰

Thank f.u.c.k we're back.

"Do you need help carrying these? I c"

"Nope! I've got it!" I s.n.a.t.c.hed the bags from Gerald, hiding them behind me while Annie chuckled at my shyness. She held onto her desired cake with a satisfied smile as Gerald nodded a little curious.

"Don't forget about Levi's present." Annie reminds me, handing the small bag to me and stalking into the house with the cake.

"Did she take you to get lingerie?" Gerald questions me making me blush and stuff the bags behind me.

"What?! No way! You should go get a slice of cake before it's all gone! I'm just gonna... go." I hurried away from him, seeing he didn't believe my words at all while I snuck back upstairs and into our room.

Levi slept soundly on the bed making me sigh in relief and place the bags on the dresser and toss my bag on the chair. Right now, I needed a shower and I was too tired to try and hide everything from sight.

Thankfully Gerald put him into a deep sleep so he should be asleep for a while.

I locked the bedroom door before grabbing my hairband and throwing all the bobby pins out of my hair. Once I was sure they were all out, I collected all my hair and threw it in another bun.

It was bath time.

Rubbing my hands together, I slipped out of my boots and placed them on the floor beside the bed. I lifted my arms above my head and felt my joints popping making me groan and rub the tense muscles.

A bath was really going to be my savior.

I opened the door, leaving it open since I was only starting the bath. My hands traced the large tub never realizing that it was almost as big as a closet but I guess that was normal for mages.

Maybe this was one of the perks for being raised here.

I shrugged at the thought, not remembering any luxuries at my old pack but I was treated like a b.a.s.t.a.r.d child. It now made sense but it hurt to realize such a thing.

A sigh left me as I grabbed the bottle of soap and squeezed some of it into the water, stirring it so bubbles started to surface. The water was nice and warm, a little on the hotter side but it felt nice against my sore muscles and dirty skin.

I knew that after taking a bath I would have to take a shower just rinse all the dirty water off me, but it would be worth it.

A few moments to myself was what I needed at this point in my life.

I left the restroom, letting the tub be fill up as I peeled away my socks and flung them into the hamper of dirty clothes I still needed to clean. It's been so long since I cleaned another person's clothes, but the thought of cleaning Levi's made my blood run hot.

I cursed at myself for letting my body heat up, knowing it was vulnerable since the mate bond wasn't met. My dirty mind played several scenarios while I glanced over at a peaceful Levi who was oblivious to it all.

How could I think of him in such a way after the dilemma we went through?

How did I even know if he felt that way towards me still?

He may have saved me, but that could have been because if I died he'd feel tremendous pain and agony. His very soul could die if I died, so it made sense if he saved me just to protect himself.

I thought on that theory, wis.h.i.+ng my mind would stop a.s.suming such things but his last words towards me before I was taken again ran through my mind.

'I'm leaving and don't expect me to come running back this time.'

His sharp words shot through my thoughts only proving what I believed as I looked away from his sleeping form and went over to the bags we got. Right now wasn't the time to think of such things.

First thing first.

I needed to get cleaned up and dress any wounds I still have.

I walked over to the bags of lingerie, thankful that I convinced Annie to get some pajamas that covered something. The fluffy bright green pajama set consisted of a tight sports bra that was for comfort rather than looks with long flowing pants.

It was so soft that it nearly made me smile at the idea of wearing them.

Annie had been so insistent that she bye the clothes for me but thankfully I was able to convince her to only pay half of it. I would have paid for it all, G.o.d knows I have a lot of money due to Barack pa.s.sing away and his a.s.sets went straight to me.

She had told me that this was their gift from me so I reluctantly let her buy some of the pieces that she picked out for me just to make her feel better. It was nice that she had offered so persistently because my parents never got anything for me other than fencing lessons or knives.

It warmed me to think of her as a mother, not that I'd ever call her my mother.

But it's the thought that counts.

I reached into the smaller bag with Levi's gift inside of it, pulling out the pendants and smiling down at them.

My grandmother taught me that her mate and she had matching pendants and no matter where they were, they kept them connected. The memory was so new and fresh to my mind that it was the perfect gift for Levi and I.

The sharp pieces of stone had a small carving with a Chinese symbol that said trust and power. It was gorgeously made and cost a pretty penny but I knew that he'd love it whether he forgave me or not.

I wanted to put mine around my neck, but I didn't want to spoil the surprise. The leather band around the pendants were made fine and smooth enough for me to never remove it but I wasn't sure if Levi was into such a thing.

What if he hated it?

What if he didn't forgive me?

What if he didn't want me anymore?

Question after question shot through my brain as I willed myself to stop, placing the necklaces back in the bag and pus.h.i.+ng it into the ch.o.r.e.

I have to stop that.

I can't a.s.sume things like most girls.

I took a deep breath before grabbing my green pajamas and heading to the restroom. The tub was nearly filled to where I wanted it when I tossed the clothes on the sink and kicked the door shut.

It's me time now.

Then I'll look after Levi.
