256 Gathering Information 1

The people in the capital city were not in the same state as when they were before. They were trying their best to keep on a cheerful façade while at the same time, not pus.h.i.+ng the attention of the higher ups to them. They knew that their ending wouldn't be good if they pried into the matter of the Imperial Family and other powerful families.

They had to act as if they knew nothing.

'They're so fake,' Lu Wan sent sound transmission as he was trying his best to control his emotion. He felt like he would puke if he had to continue watching these people.

Both Ye Jiao and Qi Huan could only smile bitterly. Even though they knew that the situation was truly bad, they also knew that they needed to keep up appearance to act as innocent children.

They didn't want to get into trouble.

'Ugh, I really wish I can…'

'Lu Wan, if you continue to speak like that, I don't mind beating you up under the pretense that we have an argument.' Qi Huan tapped the handle of his sword with a smile on his face. However, the content of what he said was nothing more than a threat.

Lu Wan's face turned pale as he quickly shut his mouth. He didn't want to get beaten up in the middle of the street. What's more, it would increase the chance of him getting found out by the Imperial Family.

While Qi Huan managed to calm Lu Wan, Ye Jiao scanned the area and sighed internally.

'Master…. You should have known that the situation in this city is not peaceful, have you?'

Ye Jiao could guess that people in this city were restless because of Lu Wan. After all, that boy has quite a good prospect with his talent, yet he disappeared like a smoke. Even if the Lu Family and Imperial Family hid the news, there might be still some hint here and there. After all, the number of guards around has increased by several folds.

However, these people didn't dare to discuss anything openly in fear that they would be treated as spies or even traitors.

"Let's order some food." Lu Wan pointed at the restaurant nearby. He was starting to feel suffocated under Qi Huan's glare. If it was any more, he feared that there would be a hole in his head because Qi Huan was unable to keep his patience.

Qi Huan arched his eyebrows and nodded in agreement. Most inns have their own restaurant for their customers, so the three of them usually pick inns to eat rather than normal restaurants.

In this place, it was easier to find more information.

"Ok."

"What do you want to eat?"

The three of them seated and started to order some food. They decided to pick a lot of different types of meals such as soup, roasted duck, fried chicken, and many others.

"Do you have to order salad?" Lu Wan's face turned sour when the waiter left.

Qi Huan crossed his arm. "Vegetables are good for health. Do not try to neglect them and just eat meat."

Lu Wan clicked his tongue. "I prefer meat."

"Then you have to eat more vegetables."

"Are you deaf?"

Ye Jiao tried to stifle her laugh and turned her head to the side. Some people's eyes were looking at them. Apparently, it was not normal to see kids playing around without adults around.

Well, considering that this was the capital city, it was indeed abnormal. The degree of danger in this city far exceeded other cities. Despite being the largest and most prosperous city, it was actually very dangerous.

Seeing the people that were looking at them, Ye Jiao flashed a bright smile. Some people were stunned before they turned their head away in embarra.s.sment. Ye Jiao had a cute and adorable face. That one smile instantly made them forget what they were thinking before.

Some of them just thought that the children were going out while their parents were not far away.

'It's better for now.'

Children who could roam around alone without getting suspicious gazes could only be servants.

'But…. we can't really become a servant so suddenly.'

The only servant's clothes they had would be those of the Lu Family. If they really wore them, some people from the Lu Family might come to interrogate them. It wouldn't end so peacefully with the possibility of Lu Wan getting found out.

Oh well, it would be better for her to begin her acting. The people there would be the start of her conversation topic this time.

"Excuse me," Ye Jiao called a nearby servant.

"Yes?"

"Is there anything wrong with us? I can see that some people are looking in this direction," Ye Jiao pointed to the door blatantly, acting as if she was just a clueless little girl without much knowledge of the world.

The servant peered over to the door. The men hurriedly turned their heads away when they realized that they made the children uncomfortable. He sighed internally when he saw their actions. The servant then turned his head back to Ye Jiao with a smile on his face.

"I think they're just curious since it's rare to see three children wander around in town."

"I see."

Ye Jiao flicked her glance to Lu Wan and Qi Huan. They were already 14 and 13 years old respectively, but their builds were still not too big. She could understand why Lu Wan was still small as he must have ingested too much poison. However, shouldn't Qi Huan look more like an adult?

Uh, probably a young adult would be more suitable with his current build.

Sigh…

Children also had it hard here.
