Ye Jiao just laughed at Lu Wan's words. The two of them argued for the entire morning until it was the time for lunch. After lunch, she ran outside the inn and Lu Wan had no choice but to follow after her to the streets.

"So, what's your plan?"

"I'm going to play with the children, but only the boys," Ye Jiao replied.

Lu Wan frowned. "You're going to make them forget the time limit to return back to their house?"

"Yes. This way, he'll have to scatter his guard to chase after the children. Don't worry, I'm sure that the guards won't treat them harshly considering that they're just doing it for the sake of surviving."

"Honestly," Lu Wan heaved a sigh as he listened to Ye Jiao's plan. He had to admit that this junior sister of his was exceptionally good at setting up tricks, though. Her ability to think further and planned things were far above what he could think.

Even though he was the one who told her the stories of people who lived by tricking others before they departed, he didn't have the capabilities to set up one by himself. Knowing the story of people in the past and using the knowledge he had to plan for a trick was completely different.

"Oh, you're here Ai Jiao and Yu Shui," the children were already familiar with them because they had come a few days ago.

Ye Jiao nodded her head. "Are you playing?"

"Yes! We're playing tag!"

"Do you want to partic.i.p.ate?"

"Of course!"

"I'll pa.s.s," Lu Wan raised his hand. He didn't feel like following after these children. The thought of running around like an idiot was not something that he liked.

"Ok, you start to be 'it' Ai Jiao."

"Yes~!"

Watching the children play, Lu Wan sat down on the gra.s.s. Ye Jiao was matching up with the children's speed and didn't try to run with all she got. With her higher physical strength, it was close to impossible for the children to capture her, so she kept it at a moderate amount and feigned tiredness.

Seeing how Ye Jiao tried so hard to act, Lu Wan just yawned.

'Why are you trying so hard? There's no use in pleasing these people.'

For him, trying to act likeable was annoying. People around him would not see him for who he was but for the face that he put on the front. When they didn't like him, they would just leave him. Such was human nature that he had seen for countless times in the past.

They fawned over him when he had something they wanted.

They left him as soon as he didn't have anything valuable anymore.

He might be still young, but he already felt tired by their constant nagging and fake face. Rather than having them gather around him like bees, it would be better if he drove them all away by acting unlikable. That way, they would give him the peace he needed.

"You're great for keeping up with us," the boys decided to rest.

Ye Jiao giggled and showed a proud smile. "It's nothing much."

"It's going to be late. We need to hurry back home," one of the children reminded after they had rested enough.

"Aww, I'm still tired."

"There's still enough time, right?"

"Maybe?"

The children stayed for a while longer before they started to stand up and walked in the direction of the houses. The field where they play was located at quite a distance away from the houses because it was more s.p.a.cious.

"You seem to be having fun," Lu Wan commented.

Ye Jiao smiled. "When you act, you have to do it until the end, Brother Yu. It's best to be normal and blend in when you want to be inconspicuous, right?"

"What are you talking….?"

"Hey, the light seems dimmer quicker," one of the children said in a worried tone.

"You're right. Let's make a run."

"Got it."

Lu Wan pointed to the village. "Let's run too."

The two of them kept up at the same pace as the other children as they headed back to the houses. Unfortunately, the sun set before they could reach the houses' area. As soon as they saw the device lit up, their face paled down.

"Everyone, scatter!"

The children scattered immediately and no longer used the main road because they knew that they would be easily spot on if they used it. Lu Wan switched direction to another route while pa.s.sing a worried glance to Ye Jiao. In the next second, he blended into the darkness and disappeared from the sight.

On the other hand, Ye Jiao also used the back route as she slowed down her pace. She made it seem as if she was tired as she tried to reach the inn. At the same time, she was keeping vigilant because she knew that the governor usually targeted young women.

She was sure that his target would be her.

As she sensed Eon Energy coming closer, Ye Jiao tried to act as if she didn't know anything and switched direction further from the crowded houses. If they fight, she wanted it to happen in a secluded place.

A man appeared at the other end of her road, and Ye Jiao changed her direction. She pretended to fumble as she crashed on the ground.

"Ouch!"

The man quickly approached her and lifted her up. From his clothes, Ye Jiao could see that the man was a guard and his Eon Energy was only at the threshold of rank 1.

"You have to return home quickly."

"Y-yeah!" Ye Jiao straightened her position as she inspected the man's worried expression. It seemed that he hoped for her to run away as fast as possible.

"Use the other way…."

"My, my, there's a girl over here?"

The guard's body stiffened while Ye Jiao followed the sound's direction. She could see a plump man standing at the end of the road while emanating heavy pressure. It was far more than what rank 1 could possibly emit, but Ye Jiao's heart was exceptionally calm.

The pressure that Zhan Jing used when he sparred with them was much higher.

"Master," the guard called out.

Ye Jiao couldn't see his face clearly because it was night time, but she could guess that it must be the governor. The only man the guard would call 'master' should be the governor. Besides, from the picture she knew that he was quite fat.

The governor waved his hand. "Take care of the other boys. I'll handle this one."

The guard's body trembled in anger, but he didn't have any other choice. He turned around and left while Ye Jiao stood rooted in her place.

The governor smiled wickedly. "Now, shall we have some fun?"
