112 Investigation 2

"It's rare to see youngsters come into a remote village like this," the inn owner said with a tone of admiration. "Your courage is remarkable."

Ye Jiao smiled. "Thank you, but we're just coming to visit because our parents are busy outside."

"Ah yeah, I heard that your parents are adventurers, right?"

"Yes," Lu Wan nodded his head. He followed after their lies that they had prepared. "They're clearing up the route for a safe journey, so we have to stay here for the time being."

"It's still amazing for you to travel alone at your age."

Ye Jiao giggled. "Mr. Owner, we have told a lot about us, so now it's your turn to tell us more stories about this village."

"Ah, of course!" The inn owner hit his chest. "Just ask me anything that you want to know. I'll surely be able to answer them all."

"Really?"

"Yes! I'm the one with the most knowledge in this village," the inn owner bragged.

A servant served a bowl of potato soup as he smiled. "Don't listen to him, we, servants, also know much more compared to him."

"Hey! You're talking to your superior!"

"My bad," the servant laughed.

Ye Jiao smiled at the warm atmosphere these people presented to them. It seemed that the people in the village were not bad people. "I want to know what this village is good at."

"This village is known for our farm. Even though there are not many people here, we live our life by farming. There are various vegetables that we cultivate with one of them is this potato," the inn owner pointed to the soup in front of them.

"Let me try!"

Ye Jiao scooped the potato and put it into her mouth. The savory taste brought a smile to her face. Considering the village's condition, she didn't expect that their cooking would be this good.

"It's really good, Mr. Owner."

"Isn't it? This village also has…"

With hearty talks, Ye Jiao and Lu Wan could get information easily. As the two of them were children, the adults didn't even filter their speech as they talked about many things. It seemed that the advantage of being children was that most adults didn't put their guard up around them.

It didn't take long for the topic to head into the direction they wanted too as the sun started to set.

"It's already late. We have to quickly finish our work," one of the servants suddenly said.

Ye Jiao tilted her head. "Is there no light when it's night?"

In the capital city, they have basic light formed from a device that was powered up with Eon Energy. It was quite costly, but since the kingdom was thriving, the street was filled with those devices that would lit up for three hours after the sun was set. In smaller villages, there was usually just one device placed at the center of the village to lit up the way for people.

"There's one light device that will lit up for a few hours at night," the inn owner smiled. "But that's not the main concern."

"What is the problem, then?" Lu Wan also asked.

"The new governor implemented rules that we're not allowed to get out after the sun sets or he'll personally give us punishment. This is why no one dares to come out even though the light is still enough for us to walk around."

The device was capable of providing enough light for them to see as long as it was not blocked by buildings. For villagers, the main street was usually enough, so they never asked for more. After all, charging up the device took a considerable amount of energy for them and there were not many Eon Energy Masters who were capable of doing that.

"It's late, so the two of you better have some rest."

Seeing that they were in a hurry, Ye Jiao and Lu Wan stopped asking. They politely excused themselves and returned back to their room. Just like before, Ye Jiao stayed in Lu Wan's room once again.

"We need to find out more about the rules that the new governor gives," Ye Jiao said as she peered outside. The servants hurriedly ran on the street as the sun was setting down.

Lu Wan nodded. They managed to find out that there was a new governor a few months ago. This new governor placed a new rule for them to not stay outside their house after sunset. Those who broke it would be punished.

From the servant's expression, they could guess that the punishment must not be normal.

"From their words, we also know that the killing case started from the moment the new governor took charge," Lu Wan sighed. "It's safe to say that the villagers also know that the new governor is the killer."

"They issue the mission, so of course they know."

If the villagers didn't know who the killer was, there wouldn't be any information regarding the governor in the mission's scroll that they had before. Just like their first mission, they would have to investigate who the one did the crime first.

"They're not going to tell us that easily, are they?"

"There's no way they want to leak it out to an outsider in case it'll affect us," Ye Jiao turned her body around and leaned on the wall. "If we want to find out more, we'll have to ask various questions and do some observations of that governor. We're going to be fairly busy, Senior Brother Yu."

"We'll take turns to get out and stay here to gather information from people who come to eat. It's convenient that the inn is also a small restaurant here."

"Who starts tomorrow?"

"You can stay in the inn first. I want to walk around the village for a few hours then we'll switch our role," Lu Wan replied. "Now, have some rest. We won't have any rest when it's the day for our mission."

"Got it."

After arranging their roles, Ye Jiao returned to her room and slept peacefully.
