8 The Corridor

"You're not scared, there's nothing to be afraid of. It's just like the porcelain dolls mom loves. They just stand there. They can't do a thing to you. They're just motionless things, nothing to fear. It's Al- WAAA HE MOVED !!! Mama, I hate those dolls so much !"

Nora continued to walk while the zombies completely ignored her. She found herself in the middle of the corridor, surrounded by zombies. Clenching the infusion stand in her hands, she cheered up a little when she saw the door before her was closer, step by step. There was no other way out, the other doors were all leading to hospital rooms. She finally reached that exit door and softly opened it.

Another corridor. Many more zombies.

But there was a map of the floor on her right. She learned she was on the 46th floor, the last one. There was no elevator to that particular floor, but she located the stairs. Relieved, she crossed the room, as careful as ever and went to the place the stairs should be. But there was steel doors barring the way, and they could only be opened with a pa.s.s. Without it, no way out.

She turned her head. "Maybe someone dropped one..."

Nora started to look around, but to no avail. She raised her head, contemplating.

"Or a dead person may have a pa.s.s, right ?"

All the bodies were currently being devoured by the zombies. If she bothered them, would they attack ? But she didn't want to stay here forever. She had people to look for. She took a deep breath and walked toward one of the bodies. This one was almost totally eaten, and only one zombie was busy munching it, but the clothing was still on it. Damaged, but there. She went to the left side of the body, letting the right side to the zombie. She kneeled and tried to search the pockets. Her face showed all her disgust and fear, but she persisted. The zombie before her didn't react. He continued to eat.

"At least he's not selfish... I got it !"

She found one of those precious pa.s.s on her first try and went back to the steeled doors. And opened them before walking out.
