16 Naval Captain Allen

In the East Bay City Naval HQ, Dylan and the Captain continued their discussion after getting serious.

"If the pirates were killed even before the interrogation, then, surely they know something about that ent.i.ty."

Dylan is dumb when it comes to directions, yes. But in anything else, he is actually smart. In no way, he will top in the Elite Camp with mediocre skills so it is a given that he understood.

"Somehow, the girl should know something, right?"

The captain looked at Dylan and s.h.i.+fted his sight to the cup of coffee in his hands. He paused for a second and took a sip before replying.

"No, she does not. All she knows was that they are being chased, but there is no clue who the ent.i.ty behind the pirates is."

Dylan looked down and sighed. If the girl won't talk then he can't help it. He took a deep breath and refreshed his mind and s.h.i.+fted his side to the Captain.

"So what is the good news?"

"It is not something grand but it is good news for you. The Merits you will receive is more than you will expect."

Dylan smiled, for it really is good news! The captain saw him and sighed. He knows how precious Merits are for this young man.

"Then how much?"

"If my calculations are right, it should be 28 points which are double the original amount. It should be because of the Pearl confiscated and because you exceeded the scope of your mission preventing them from doing what they intended to do. Well, you should have just observed them like what you are instructed to but who would have thought that you will even capture those sc.u.ms! Haha."

"So I won't be punished because of that? Actually, halfway I forgot the Mission. Hahah-"

The Captain just stared at him seriously which made him stop instantly. Painted on the Captain's face is that it is not a joking matter. Then after a while, the captain continued.

"Well, you saved us a lot of effort."

"Then, how much merits do I need to have to become a Lieutenant?"

The Captain heard him but did not respond immediately to make some suspense.

In the World Navy, Merits is applied by a points system.

The system is established for the tally of points needed for promotion. An example of this is advancement towards being an Ensign. A Naval Man needs to acc.u.mulate 20 merits to partake in the advancement of rank towards Ensign. On the other hand, Dylan has to acc.u.mulate 100 Merits to become a Lieutenant.

It is also a choice whether the Naval Man refuses to ascend into ranks. Through merits, a Naval man can jump through ranks but before the promotion not only do you have to acc.u.mulate a number of merits but also one must be tested.

The test is done in a form of Missions or in a form of capability test. A lot of officials choose Capability test more, as one just have to par the capability required. While mission test is not popular because it could go wrong but it has good sides too. A mission done for advancement tests can bring triple the Merits needed. Well, missions are dangerous, and usually, the Missions for the test is much harder than normal so it figures why.

"You still need to have to acc.u.mulate 59 merits before you can advance."

"That much!?" Dylan was stunned. Actually, he does not pay much attention to the merits he had gained but never would he have thought that the merits gained from those missions he finished would only amount to 13.

"You were actually lucky to gain lots of merits in a small time." The captain wore a funny face.

"I thought the merits I have acc.u.mulated for the 4 missions I took are much but I was wrong." Dylan bowed dejectedly.

"Well, you'll just have to work harder. Do not worry, I will give you missions that will bring lots of merits. Do not worry!"

The room is comfortable and has no tensed atmosphere. It is relaxed, as they continue their discussion.

The Captain looked at Dylan and said, "Won't you call me uncle?"

Dylan was shocked but responded by shaking his head, "Sorry Sir, I won't dare call the Captain by that name."

"Then I won't take your time anymore. Dylan, take a rest, I am sure that you are tired." The captain looked at Dylan like he was a family then finished his drink and stood up. He bade his farewell and left the room.

After seeing out the Captain, he returned to his seat and looked at his palm. Once again, the image of the mourning returned to him which made him feel down.

"Maintain peace? Achieve your dreams? Resist my orders? Laughable! Do you have the strength?"

These are the words from someone Dylan hated. No matter how much he hated those words, he can't ever retort the truth.

"But that time, I did have the strength to stop the ma.s.sacre. If I only used it earlier, no one would have died." Dylan murmured.

"Then I will use this power more, even if I hated its origin." Dylan's eyes showed determination. This is his new oath, he will spare no strength in him anymore to finish whatever task he'll be given.

Outside the room, the Captain hasn't left yet. He stayed there while observing the door. He stood in the middle of the hallway unmoving.

"An Ensign with the strength to fight a Captain. It should be regretful not to use it early on to stop the Red Feather. I can only hope it won't get into him." He looked at his surname written on his name tag and felt guilty as s.h.i.+fted his sight back to the door again. Engraved on it is his name, Allen Reigon.

The captain turned his back and slowly left.
