Not So Lonesome Road - 40 Psyker

40 Psyker

The gun itself was a light silver color but, it was also covered in intricate ingravings that I was sure were real silver. It definately wasn't a normal gun.

I checked my Pipboy to see if I could find it's name.

"Mysterious Magnum" I whispered "well that doesn't help me at all."

It required 6 Strength and 50 in Guns and did over 60 damage! That was over 20 more than That Gun did, I didn't really what the damage numbers my Pipboy showed meant in the real world but, more damage could never be bad right?

I took That Gun out of my holster and replaced it with the Mysterious Magnum.

"DUH, DU, DAH, DUN"

"What the h.e.l.l" I jumped! Did the Revolver just make music? I took it out of my holster to examine it more closely.

"DUH, DU, DAH, DUN"

The music played again but, this time I recognized it, it was the same music that played in game when The Mysterious Stranger killed someone. I didn't know what it was at first because I only played through New Vegas a couple times and never really used that perk.

But, what is his gun doing here? Wait, I stopped myself, does that mean the The Mysterious Stranger actually existed? If he really existed then who could he possibly be? The Mysterious Stranger has literaly been in every single game which span the entire country and over 120 years, they couldn't all be the same person could they?

While lost in my thoughts I put the Mysterious Revolver into my backback because even though it was powerful that music would be really annoying. So I turned my attention to the what the gun was resting on. It was a jacket or more specificaly a duster, it actually reminded me of the one you get after completing the Lonesome Road DLC.

I checked it's name and found out it was called the Regulator Duster and it had over 10 Damage Resistance and gave +1 to Charisma as well as a +5 to Guns. The boost to guns was useless to me but, the +1 Charisma would be incredibly useful to me. It would boost the effectiveness of my Speech and Barter skills and in theory even make my companions stronger.

I took my backpack off and put the Duster on over my leather armor and checked myself out in the mirror. The jacket really worked with my outfit, with a smile I threw any thoughts of The Mysterious Stranger to the back of my mind since there was nothing I could do about it now and just thanked him for leaving all this cool stuff here.

When I went back to our camp the other two members of our group were already up and making breakfast.

"Where were you" Boone asked?

"Finding this awesome Jacket" I flexed to show it off.

"It works" Ca.s.s replied while chewing on a piece of meat.

"You shouldn't leave without anyone knowing" Boone looked unamused.

I sighed "Your, right I promise I won't leave without letting you guys know, that wasn't safe."

I might have been the leader but, I was still basically a rookie when it came to living in the wasteland. The only reason I had gotten this far safely was because of my foreknowledge and my absurdly high shooting skills. So I didn't take too much offense with Boone for correcting me on this kind of thing since he was probably the most knowledgable one here when I comes to staying alive.

We finished getting everything together and set off on the road and I had to stop myself from laughing at Ca.s.s and Boone. I didn't notice it earlier because my nightvision made everything blue but, as the sun came up I could see that their faces were as red as a tomatoe.

"Here" I said failing to hide my laughs "I made some sunscreen for you guys it'll should help a little bit."

They gladly took it and started applying it immediatly.

"You know" Ca.s.s said while winching slightly as she touched her face "we can't all be so carefree that we're willing to use something as important as a Stimpak to get rid of sunburn."

"Mock me all you want but, at least I'm not the one who looks like a vegatable."

"Actually, tomatoes are fruits" Boone added.

"I know but, I didn't think fruit sounded as good there."

"So where are we headed next" Ca.s.s asked "New Vegas is still a ways away and after everything that's happened so far. I refuse to believe we won't get caught up in any more crazy situations while your leading us."

"Well" I said while holding my chin "We're going to stop at Boulder City first to stop a hostage situation. But, we should be able to resolve that without fighting. After that the next stop is the 188 Trading post, we can relax there for a the day but, my main reason for stopping there is to recruit another member of our group."

"I want to say there's no way you could possibly know there's going to be a hostage situation at Boulder City but, I've known you long enough to know normal thing don't happen around you. Seriously how do you know all this stuff!"

"He's a Psyker" Boone said.

"What all that stuff's just a legend" Ca.s.s refuted.

"If everything I've heard is true it's the only thing that makes sense."

"But, there's just no way! All that hokey supernatural stuff isn't real!"

"I'm suprised your so against this Ca.s.s" I said "didn't your father help the Chosen One fight a crazy miner and an albino molerat that could control others with their minds?"

"d.a.m.n it! How could you possible know about that stuff."

"Because he's a psyker" Boone said.

"Whatever, I give up" Ca.s.s deflated "he has crazy powers because I can't think of any better explanation."

I shrugged I didn't really want to explain too much about my abilities to them yet but, using my foreknowledge makes it pretty clear there's something different about me.

"So how does it work then" Ca.s.s asked "your . . . 'powers' I mean? Do you have visions or do you just kind of know?"

"Hmm, Ok imagine this" I explained "you were just living your life being an ordinary person and not doing anything of significance. And then one day you wake up after being shot in the head to find out the entire life you lived was just a dream. So then you would know all kinds of things you shouldn't and how to make things end in your favor."

"T-that's insane" Ca.s.s gaped.

"Wow" was all Boone said.

"Yeah, but it's kind of a double edged sword. Because the more I change the less what I know will be applicable."

"The b.u.t.terfly Effect" Boone added.

"Exactly" I snapped.

"So we really are going to find a hostage situation at Boulder City" Ca.s.s asked?

I nodded "A couple of Great Khans will be hiding in there trying to get away from the NCR."

I saw Boone twitch slightly.

"Don't worry Boone we'll help end it without anyone getting killed."

"You know about me don't you" he asked.

I hesitated a moment "I do."

"And you still want we to be a part of your group regardless?"

This time I didn't hesitate "I do. What happened was terrible but, it definitly wasn't your fault and besides if you want redemption I'd be a good idea to stick by me."

"Ok, what was all that about" Ca.s.s asked looking at me?

I waved my hands "don't look at me it's not my place to say" I looked at Boone.

Ca.s.s looked over to him but, he remained silent.

"Whatever" Ca.s.s shook her head "you said we were going to get a new member at the 188? What kind of person are they?"

"Oh, Veronica! She's a fun person."

"That tells me literaly nothing about her" Ca.s.s grumbled.

"She's an idealistinc Brotherhood of Steel scribe who is questioning her groups beliefs and only uses a Powerfist as a weapon, does that help" I smirked?

"Oh" was all Ca.s.s said.

"Oh, just oh" I questioned? "I was expecting a bigger reaction."

"Yeah, sorry about that but, I've hit my limit of handling crazy today" she waved me off.

"Oh" I sighed in defeat making Ca.s.s laugh.
