13 The Future

"Did, you see all those ants give up?"

"Yeah" I shrugged "I'm done dealing with those ants."

"Don't worry about it" one of the soldiers patted my shoulder "with all the ants out there it'd take an entire platoon to kill'em all."

They let me in and I headed straight to the HQ. This time both Ranger jackson and Major Knight were there. It seemed like they were arguing about something.

"I told you Jackson we can't send anyone out to try and find him."

"But, it's getting dark soon and that's when the ants are most active!"

"He knew the dangers when he went out. Besides weren't you the one who gave him authorization to leave this morning?"

"Yes, but!"

"If you were so worried why did you even let him go?"

"I just thought he'd go and snipe a few ants then come back a couple hours later."

Major Knight rolled his eyes "you've obviously forgotten how reckless a young man like him can be. h.e.l.l, I wouldn't put it pa.s.sed him to try and clear the nest all by himself."

"Ah-hem" I cleared my throat.

The two men blushed as they realized I heard their entire conversation.

"I-I'm glad your okay" Major Knight said.

"Don't worry about" I waved him off "you were right when you said I knew the risks. If I died it would have been my fault."

"So" Ranger Jackson spoke up to try and ease the awkwardness "how many ants did you kill? And did you bring any proof because I can't just take you on your word."

"Yeah, hold on a second" I took my backpack off and unzipped it to take something out.

I pulled out a single ant head and placed it on the counter.

"That's it" both of them thought in unison?

"I'll go and see what inventory we might have lost" Ranger Jackson scratched his head "but, a single soldier ant isn't worth that much."

"What are you talking about" I questioned him " this isn't a soldier ant?"

"Huh" Jackson looked confused "What are you talking about? That head is way to big to have come from a worker ant."

I shook my head "This isn't a soldier or worker ant can't you tell?"

Ranger Jackson still looked confused but, Major Knight seemed to ponder a moment while looking at the ant head. On closer inspection he could see that it was significantly bigger than a standard soldier ants head, and not just that its jaws and antennae were far longer than normal. Lastly it was a far lighter shade of brown than he had ever seen almost like it had never seen the sun. Then suddenly it clicked with him what he was looking at and his eyes widened in shock.

"T-t-t-thats a queen ant head isn't it" Major Knight stuttered in disbelief!

"What! That's not possible" Ranger Jackson jumped in!

"Yep" I put my hands on my hips looking smug "I can guarantee that you your ant problems are gone. If you go to the old Ivanpath race track you'll see around 100 ant corpses littering the ground."

"H-how could you possibly hav-" Jackson tried to ask but, was interrupted.

"That's not important right now" Major Knight cut in "get a squad down there to confirm and to burn the bodies so we don't attract any other pests. And you" he turned to me "if your lying and any of my men get killed going into ant territory. I'll personally make sure you leave the Outpost in a body bag. Got it?"

"Whoa" I raised my hands defensively "I got it."

"Good, now get out of here. We can discuss your compensation after we confirm if the ants are truly gone."

I nodded my arm was killing me and I wanted to rest but, before I went out the door I remembered something.

"Oh, yeah I also forgot. Before I killed the ants I ran into a small gang a couple miles east of here."

He snorted "that was probably the Jackals, they like to fancy themselves raiders and patrol the roads between here and Nipton."

"Yeah, well before I got rid of them I overheard them say something you might want to know about."

He pitched the bridge of his nose "not anything good I'm sure."

"Nipton's been destroyed by the Legion."

"d.a.m.n it" he slammed his fist on the counter! "Ghost was right!"

After that they waved me off to try and deal with everything I just dumped in their laps. I went back to the Barracks and put my stuff back in the locker and went to go sit next to Ca.s.s.

"Oh" she glanced at me "you aren't dead yet. So how was your ant hunt? Are you ready to throw in the towel yet and buy me my booze?"

"Actually" I smirked at her "I already killed all of the ants and am just waiting for the NCR to go and confirm it before getting paid."

"Bulls.h.i.+t" she mocked me "I've seen how many ants there are down there. There's no way you could've taken them all out on your own."

I shrugged "believe what you want but, you better be prepared to pay up on our bet tomorrow. And also I'm not alone" I motioned to ED-D "I got him watching my back."

"What even is that thing? Never seen a robot like that" she asked?

ED-D happily flew over to her and introduced himself with his usual energy.

"What'd he say" Ca.s.s looked at me.

"He said that he's Eyebot Duraframe Subject D or ED-D for short and that he's happy to meet you."

Ca.s.s glared at me the back to ED-D who beeped in confusion then back to me.

"Nope, I don't buy it. There's no way you can understand all that crazy beeping. Your just messing with me."

"Again, believe what you want right ED-D?"

He nodded in agreement.

After sharing a couple of drinks with Ca.s.s I decided to go to bed early I had alot to think about.

Mostly about what I was going to do from now on. I had been making plans but, only on the short term. I needed to start thinking bigger if I didn't want to mess anything up. Like which of the four endings should I go for?

The Legion was already out I was never going to side with them. But, the other three choices weren't that easy.

The NCR has good intentions but, their leaders are too bureaucratic and corrupt. If I help them they would probably stabilize the Mojave eventually but, they would probably end up causing just as many problems as they solved.

Mister House was probably the best option from a completely subjective standpoint. He wants to get humanity to the stars and is willing to do anything to achieve that goal. His problem is that he has been so focused on his goal for so long that I think he's actually forgotten that he's a human too. There's no way he's been alive in that metal coffin for two hundred years and doesn't have any mental problems.

The last option is to use Yes Man to take over New Vegas myself. I have no idea how to build a civilization plus that's alot of pressure. But, I guess I don't actually have to do it alone. I could find people who I trust to take over the parts I don't understand. Not, to mention that I'm in a unique position compared to all the other groups.

I know all about this world from the games. I could get advanced technology from Big Mountain, gather all of the extraordinary people and weapons from the wasteland, and my knowledge doesn't just end there. I played every Fallout games and might even be able to make contact with the locations from the other games.

The more I thought about it the more excited I became. I could see about allying with the Lone Wander from Fallout 3 and getting alien technology from him. Or maybe kickstarting the plot of Fallout 4 and stealing all of the Inst.i.tutes research. There were literally infinite possibilities!

I actually had to forcefully calm myself down and think about how to achieve all of that.
