Chapter 29: Divorce

Susu cried out all of the hate and sufferings that she experienced from all these years and fell asleep in Chen Mu's embrace. While Chen Mu was comforting Susu, Tian Yuo was lectured by Shen Wen in the waiting room under the eyes of many patients, doctors, and nurses.

The brutal slap from earlier left a bruise mark on his cheek, making it an unsightly view.

Shen Wen snarled and pointed at Tian Yuo, "How could your father and I be so smart, yet you turned out this amazingly imbecile?? Just a few tears and you believed in Karen over your wife? What are you doing to your marriage? Did we raise you up to be the sc.u.m of the society?"

"Mother! I saw it myself! Karen sent me a text telling me Susu was emotional and going crazy. They were at the dock where Karen is most afraid of!" There seemed to be no way in knocking any sense to his mind. Shen Wen really questioned whether he was her son at the moment.

"What did the vixen feed you to make you so trusting of her?! If Susu really planned all this, why the heck would she not just find someone else to do the dirty work? Or find a less obvious location to commit the crime? Talking to you makes me want to jump into the ocean myself! Maybe then, you will have a little common sense."

"Mom, you're being too biased."

Shen Wen rolled her eyes and wanted to give him another slap across the face, but stopped and kicked a nearby chair with her heels. "Biased right? Alright. Since hitting you is useless, do whatever the s.h.i.+t you want. I won't give a single d.a.m.n or glance at you anymore until you realize it yourself. You can stay outside every day, afternoon and night. I'll have housekeeper Xu pack your belongings to go. No need to even call me and tell me anything about yourself. I'm tired of your bulls.h.i.+t."

She stormed out angrily, paid for Susu's medical bills, and went to check up on her. When she pushed the door slightly opened, the creaking sound alerted him. Quickly he placed his finger to his lips and shook his head.

Shen Wen saw the poor girl with a tear stained face sleeping with her arms wrapped around his waist and frowned before exiting the room. "I swear one of these days; I will adopt Chen Mu to our family. How could he and Tian Yuo look so alike when they were young, yet their IQ and EQ could differ so much after growing up? Sigh, forget it. I'll just pretend that I don't have a son anymore until he pick himself up this time.

Chen Mu walked out shortly after tucking Susu in and intentionally spoke to Shen Wen, "Auntie Tian, I want to speak with you for a moment."

"Sure..." She could sense the seriousness in his tone and immediately stepped aside.

"Auntie Tian, I'll be honest with you. Susu's mental and physical health condition does not look great at all. She was forced into this marriage and literally did everything that a wife, daughter-in-law, and granddaughter-in-law, should've done. If not everything, then it would literally be the gold daughter that every fairy tale has. Are you really willing to just stand and watch her suffer? You keep saying you treated her like your daughter, but I don't see that at all. All I see are your selfishness in trying to make your own fairy tale come true by forcing your son and her together."

Shen Wen remained calm as she listened to Chen Mu's words because he had never been this straightforward to her using such tone, "Auntie, if you really love Susu like your own daughter, you should let them get a divorce. This way, Karen could stop all her schemes, and Tian Yuo would stop attacking Susu. Susu will recover much faster. I'm not sure if you heard her cries earlier, but it was certainly heartbreaking to hear. Nurses had their eyes teared up just from pa.s.sing by randomly."

After saying what he wanted to say, he went back to Susu's room and held her hand, making sure she wouldn't feel lonely while resting. Susu was discharged under Shen Wen's pressure to the hospital staff.

When she brought Susu to her room, Susu refused to sleep on the bed, "Mother, it's fine. I can't sleep on that bed. I'll sleep on the portable bed over there."

"What?! Portable bed? Susu, what are you...?" Actually, this was the first time Shen Wen had stepped into Susu and Tian Yuo's room after their marriage. After taking a careful look, her eyes watered as she saw the minimal items that Susu brought along and how Susu always put on a happy smile in front of her.

Looking at the weak, fragile girl in front of her, she held her hands and sobbed, "I'm sorry, Susu. Mother was wrong. I made you suffer so much without noticing how much damage I've done to you. You silly child, how could you smile at the family and pretend everything was alright between you and Tian Yuo? How could I give birth to such a monster?"

"Mom... I'm fine." Her rasped voice was weak but gentle. This made Shen Wen's guilt increase by thousands of folds.

"Mom, it's late at night already. You should go to sleep and take a good rest. Everything will be fine." Susu insist that Shen Wen should leave the room so that she could rest as well. Shen Wen listened to her and went back to her room to sleep. It was a sleepless night as many memories floated up in Shen Wen's mind when she thought of what happened during the past year.

'If I hadn't forced her... she might be happily dating someone else..what have I done?'

Two hours later, Tian Yuo quietly snuck back to Tian residence and walked into his room. Since each room in the house was sound proof, n.o.body heard the following conversation. Susu was still awake and sat on her portable bed as if she expected his arrival.

The moment he entered and saw her sitting there, he threw the doc.u.ment that was in his hands onto her portable bed, "Sign it and get it over with. I can't stand being with someone as disgusting and violent as you."

"Does it look like I want to be with you to begin with?" She took the doc.u.ments and reviewed it. She already had a pen in her hand, ready to sign and make adjustments.

Seeing her scribble on the doc.u.ment made him smirk, "What? The alimonies that I set for you wasn't enough to satisfy you that you want to add more properties and monetary a.s.sets? You gold dig-"

Before he could throw another insult to her face, she signed the doc.u.ment and threw the divorce papers back on his bed, "From here onwards, we have nothing to do with each other. Even when we come across accidentally or coincidentally, let's pretend we never met. I'm done with your bulls.h.i.+t. By the way, you should also put a leash on Karen before she starts biting every other girl that you look at for over a second. That's my last advice to you."

He held the signed doc.u.ments and flipped through the pages where she scribbled on top of it. "You are all about the big talk, but you're just another person after my money."

As soon as the word money left his mouth; he regretted saying it. He continuously flipped through all the pages and reviewed every part that she made adjustments to. Instead of adding and asking for more properties like he thought she would, she crossed out every single section where the alimony was listed. The scribbling gesture from earlier was her personally stating that she did not want a single cent of the Tian family after their divorce. She also wrote that she had given her portable bed to him.

When he looked up again, Susu was nowhere to be found. He quickly went through the closet where his mom had bought her many designer clothes and realized that Susu only packed the few pieces of clothing that belonged to her. The toothbrush in the bathroom was his. Everything else that was originally in the room was still in its place. Nothing less.

"W..what?" His chest felt tightened when he reviewed the crossed out lines and her personal statement over and over again.

The next morning, the maids, housekeeper Xu, Shen Wen, Guo Min, and the Tian grandparents woke up to letters stuck to their bedroom door. Susu prepared their favorite foods in the kitchen during the hours of peace that she had.

Susu thanked each of them for their care and wrote reminders for their bad habits. The way she recognized and remembered each and every person's habit in the household moved everyone deeply. During breakfast, everyone focused on the last meal that Susu prepared for them as they fought their urge to cry.

Tian Yuo walked downstairs and found out that everyone in the family, but him, had received a letter from her. For some reason, there was an unexplainable emptiness inside of him at that moment.

During breakfast, n.o.body spoke or served him breakfast. He became invisible to his family members. After finis.h.i.+ng breakfast, he flipped everything in his room upside down to make sure that she didn't leave a letter.

The scene of her scribbling on the doc.u.ments and how she left without a goodbye lingered in his mind. She didn't give him a chance to farewell.
