-1 Prologue

A dark-haired man, who stood in a lab, shouted out in frustration. A giant machine stood beside him as he looked at the millions of papers in front of him. He had painstakingly built this machine for it to only break down now.

As he looked over the blueprints, the machine kept sounding its alarm signifying that it will soon explode. However, even at a crucial moment like this, the scientist risked his life to continue his research.

He had tried everything. Everything to bring her back. From black magic to time travel, but none seemed to work. In anger, the man pushed everything off of his desk. All of his life-long research crashed to the ground, but he didn't care. Nothing seems to go right anymore.

Then, the machine began to flash a blaring red. It keeps flas.h.i.+ng and blaring a horrifying sound, but the man didn't pay any attention to it. He was searching for something. Something in this chaotic mess. And finally, he seemed to have found what he was looking with hands gripping into something tightly.

One last red flash and-

Time's up.

Everything went up in a white light and he knew he had wasted too much time. The machine is exploding, and he could no longer escape. So the man just stood there, facing his death.

But even in such a frightening moment, no panic could be seen on his face. He calmly lifted up his arm to reveal a photograph in his hand. A photograph of a young girl smiling together with a boy that looks almost identical to him. His eyes turned gentle at the sight of the girl and his lips hooked up into a soft smile. He raised the photo up before gently pressing it to his lips.

Maybe this way, he'll finally be with her. To atone for his sins long ago. Maybe, they'll finally be together again. Just like the old days.

Even at his death, all he could think about is the girl that haunts his life. Then an explosion sounded and a searing pain turned his body apart. Yet, even with the killing pain and his life disappearing, his eyes never lifted from the photo.

"Rin... I'm sorry. If there's another life, I'll never let you go again."

And maybe G.o.d heard his wish. Maybe miracles do happen because, by the time he opened his eyes again, he realized that he had been reborn.
