After a while, Qin Ning’s father sighed. “Let’s set aside becoming an American citizen… The most important thing right now is to get married and hold a ceremony here in the States… Our company’s coming out with a new product next month and it’ll be strategically beneficial for you guys to get married before that… It’ll help with our stocks. The wedding will be luxurious… but there’s one thing. Ning and I are Christians, so he needs to convert to Christianity, and the wedding will be held at a church. I’ll ask Pastor Leo to officiate.”

“Um, convert to Christianity?” Tang Chuan was again speechless; this future father-in-law of his sure had a lot of demands…

“What? Is that a problem?” Qin Ning’s father glared domineeringly at Tang Chuan.

“Dad, we just agreed not to take more than we can afford, why are you doing this?” Qin Ning was enraged by her father’s actions.

“How is this more than we can afford?” Qin Ning’s father asked matter-of-factly.

“Uncle Qin, it’s not a big deal, but… I’m an atheist, and my parents are Buddhists, so I’m closer to Buddhism than Christianity… I can’t just convert to a new religion so suddenly,” Tang Chuan explained with a smile.

“You say that you love Ning, but you’re always looking for excuses… you don’t really want to marry my daughter, do you? You’re just playing with her.” Qin Ning’s father seemed angry.

“Dad, I’m in my twenties, I’m old enough to tell if someone is lying to me or really loves me… can you please stay out of my relations.h.i.+p?” Qin Ning felt tired and sick of negotiating with her father.

“Ning-Ning, I’m trying to do what’s right for you. Your mother died young and I raised you while taking care of the company… You know how much I care about you, and there’s not a father in the world who would try to hurt their child… You’ve grown up and you think I’m too old and dumb now, don’t you? So you don’t want to listen to me?” Qin Ning’s father looked at her sadly.

Upon hearing his remarks, she felt bad. Yes, it had been hard for them over the last two decades or so – sure, they had a lot of money, but there were things that could not be bought with all the gold in the world.

Her father may have dated over the years, but he never married any of them because he didn’t want Qin Ning to feel uncomfortable. Yes, his father gave up a lot of things for her…

“I said what I wanted to, you guys should think about it.” Then, Qin Ning’s father turned around and left, feeling a little hurt.

This left Qin Ning in a bad mood as well…

“I don’t care about that, I just want to marry you.” Tang Chuan reached out and grasped Qin Ning’s hand tightly.
