A man, no.. a creature, that held the semblance of a man, was ripping the flesh off the face of a woman with his teeth, on the ground.

Its eyes were void of pupils and its mouth bloodied with dripping fresh blood. It was feasting on the woman's face with excitement, as if it was the only thing in the world, that would bring it pleasure.

Long Yu, who was standing there, dumbfounded, could only think of two words.

"Gene mutation," he muttered.

"But that's impossible! It's too ear..." the words were stuck in his throat, when he saw the countdown timer he just pulled up.

[0 days 0 hours 0 minutes 0 secs left]

To his horror, the countdown timer, which previously showed that he still had around 6 days left, a few hours ago, suddenly jumped to zero.

'System, what happened to the timer?' he asked in panic.

[An anomaly has occurred] it replied.

'Well no sh*t there's an anomaly! Just tell me how this happened!' Long Yu who could no longer keep his calm, bursted out.

[It is likely that cells extracted from a mutated creature has been forcefully injected into the human body in attempt of a fusion. Generally speaking, the dormant genes in humans, at this stage, would only have a 0.05% of reacting to these mutated cells]

'So you're saying that this is some sh*tty experiment gone wrong!?'

Long Yu's mood got even worse after hearing the system's explanation. He really wanted to strangle the r.e.t.a.r.d, who decided to accelerate humanity's demise.

Before he could ask further, he saw a prompt appear in the corner of his eyes.

It was the first time he ever received a prompt automatically from the system, not to mention a 'recommended' one.

Long Yu hurriedly accepted the exchange without looking at the price, as there was no doubt that the information provided by the system, would be crucial to him at this moment.

After quickly glancing through the information on the screen, there was a particular word that caught his eye.

'Infection? You mean normal people will turn into one of those nasty b.a.s.t.a.r.ds if they get infected? Like those zombie movies?'

[Yes. Deteriorating cells in the body of unsuccessfully mutated beings, will immediately invade the bloodstream if made contact with any open wounds]

Hearing this bad news, Long Yu had the impulse to take matters into his own hands. A blade appeared in his hands, as he was ready to approach and kill the mutant not far away from him.

Before he could take his third step, he heard even more screams from nearby.

'Too late!'

Long Yu turned around and ran towards his car without looking back.

He thought that, if there was just one of those things around, he could quickly end it to prevent anymore incidents.

However, it seems that, this was not the first location, that thing decided to visit.

Long Yu threw the bags in his hands away and also kept the blade, just so he could run a bit faster.

As he got closer to the car, he suddenly picked up a voice amongst all the screams around him.

"Mama, where are you? Don't leave Xixi alone. Wuuwuu… Xixi is scared.. wuuu"

Long Yu, who was now meters away from his car, stopped in his tracks.

'Xixi…' he unknowingly repeated the name, as if he had been calling it for years.

Shaking his head, he tried to ignore it and keep moving. However, his legs did not budge.

As the cries of the little girl continued to enter his ears, he felt his body moving again, but this time in the direction of the voice.

'Screw it!' Long Yu gave up trying to fight it.

A blade once again appeared in his right hand as he quietly approached the voice.

When he arrived, what he saw almost made him p.i.s.s his pants. There were around half a dozen mutant monsters surrounding a small little girl who was crying.

The figures of the surrounding 'zombies' blocked part of his view of the little girl. However, Long Yu recognised from her voice that she was the girl, Xixi, he heard just now.

Surprisingly, those zombies have yet to dive into the delicate little 'meal' in front of them.

Rather, it looked as if they were unable to.

As Long Yu examined a little longer from where he stood, he saw that there were flickers of light every time a zombie tried to approach the girl.

It looked as if there was some sort of invisible barrier protecting her. Every time the zombies tried to strike out their nasty claws at the girl, a white light would appear around her, blocking those attacks.

'System, are you getting this? What's happening? How is she still alive?' Long Yu asked the system with an astonished look on his face.

[It would seem that the girl, is a bi-product of a successful gene mutation, hence awakening her ability]

'But how? I understand that the whole 'zombie' situation happened early because of some r.e.t.a.r.ds. But aren't humans' natural gene mutation suppose to end in another week?'

'Forget it. Now's not the time. I should quickly find a way to save her.' Long Yu immediately stopped his conversation with the system, when he noticed that the flickers from the girl's barrier were beginning to dim.

He took out his phone and operated it with one hand as he slowly retreated a few meters into the distance.

Once it was ready, Long Yu threw the the phone under a nearby car before sprinting off in the opposite direction.
