Chapter 1

An Chuxia's beautiful eyes slowly close. In her mind, her mother's gentle and kind smile appears.

She can't believe it; her mother has left her… forever.

“Hey, are you finally satisfied?” A frosty voice reverberates in her ear; his breath against her skin strikes a nerve. She suddenly jumps in surprise when she feels his hand on her shoulder.

She lets out an internal groan. Han Qilu, the young master, seems infantile.

Her mind flashes back to a few hours ago… .

“Han Qilu, from this point onwards, An Chuxia is your sister, and you have to take care of her,” Han Qi Lu's mother, Jiang Yuan, says. One of the matron's hands rests on Chuxia's shoulder while the other leads her in front of Han Qilu.

Han Qilu stiffens as he listens to his mother's orders. He takes a good look at Chuxia, his old man's life-saving benefactor's daughter. She has long eyebrows that make people feel at ease… and it unnerves him.

… Especially her eyes. They're like crystal, devoid of impurities.

He refuses to be swayed by her appearance. His mother may be grateful An Chuxia's mother saved his father's life. But that doesn't grant her a position in the Han family, right?

What a conniving woman!

But what annoys him the most is that the city government allowed and acknowledged this arrangement.

An Chuxia also stares at Han Qilu. He looks like a bad boy. His hand is arrogantly shoved down his pant pocket. The other, draping a black coat over the shoulder. She has heard Qilu is usually c.o.c.ky and despotic. It is best to avoid eye contact at all means.

He mockingly smiles at her. “Oh, I'm so close to her already I shall ask An Chuxia for advice!” Now that she lives in the mansion, he can't help but be hostile toward her.

“You're frustrating!” his mother retorts.

Jiang Yuan doesn't wait for An Chuxia to react. She is so angry she can barely breathe. “How can you be so rude to your sister? Now, apologize quickly!”

This time, An Chuxia wishes to say something … .

Actually, she would prefer to sever his neck, but her aunt, more than likely, say it's wrong.

“Mother, Xiao Mei (little sister) may be in a bad mood today.” His face, devoid of a natural smile, glares at An Chuxia.

But she doesn't care.

“Ah, my apologies, An Chuxia, but you don't have to call him young master. Call him Gege (brother) or by his name, ” Jiang Yuan says with a smile. She immediately turns around and shoots Qilu a disapproving look. “As for you, go to your room! You're not having dinner tonight!”

Chills travel down An Chuxia's spine as she registers the hate and anger in Qilu's eyes.

Unnerved, she doesn't know what is expected of her. It's ten o'clock. Is she supposed to run and hide in her room?

“Excuse me?” she asks, turning around. Her white lace skirt balloons, making her movement look as elegant as a princess.

“Look, what gives you the right to be arrogant, huh?” Han Qilu grasps her shoulders. His eyes spit fire. “What gives you the right when you have no purpose in my house?”

An Chuxia sneers. “Without my mother, your dad would've died. My purpose is for your family to be grateful to me!”

In fact, her heart wishes her mother's death wouldn't have been the ultimate sacrifice.
