Chapter 2: The Enchantress (6/9)

After an unknown amount of time, Elric had finally regained a decent level of rational thought. With the lightning causing his muscles to spasm and jerk violently so that whenever he tried to climb back up to his feet, his muscles would lock up and prevent that. In short, his muscles were refusing to cooperate and told him to remain motionless on the ground. When he looked to his companions, Elric could see that they were all stuck in the same situation as he was. Based on what he could hear with his ears, all four of them were relatively close to each other. And with an even longer amount of observation, he could ascertain that they were fine, but they were knocked out.

After such a difficult journey, Elric couldn’t help but smile. He had no idea that reaching their destination would be so easy, but whether this was a good thing or bad thing remained to be seen. What came next with Crazy would definitely not be smooth sailing.

But yet, Elric had to think about the magical strength of Crazy with excitement. There were two reasons for his excitement. Firstly, with such a strong individual acting as their support, his own desires could possibly be realized. He had originally worried that even if there was a magus that had the power to help him with his problem, they might not be inclined to help him with it. Even those magisters with power that had stepped into the realm of sainthood would not be so moved as to help someone as pitiful as him. Magic was an area of study in which they had spent their entire life studying, and so they would not squander their time and research in such an insignificant problem. The magus Crazy was different however. As long as flattery could make her happy, then it was very possible for her to help him out. Secondly, he wished to learn just what could be accomplished with magic; this question had been on his mind for the longest of times. And when he saw the battle between the elder wolf and Crazy, Elric had been stunned to the very marrow of his bones. It was that major of a world-shattering revelation. Speak not of reaching a height like that, the very pursuit of this strength would be enough to make anyone giddy with excitement.

Several moans later and Elric realized one of his companions had finally woken up.

“You’re finally awake?” He asked.

It took a very long time before Kite was finally able to give a powerless gasp.

Elric had been elated to hear the response nonetheless. There was never better a time like when isolated to hear the voice of a friend.

And so the two of them began to chatter to themselves. One reason was to alleviate the loneliness and powerless nature of the situation, and the other was to share their own methods of recovery with one another. Their conversation had ended up with leading to the female magus of the area however. After all in this moment in time, they were in the castle of a woman whose temperament changed on a dime. To criticize or mock her would be a dangerous thing to do.

Kite had been initially brought up within a household of knights. So by yielding to something that went against his teachings had been extremely difficult for him to do. But after traveling several days with the wolf recently, he then experienced yet another life changing battle. It was then that he realized that conviction through faith was only natural, but conviction through power to forge ahead in life was a maxim that his parents had always repeated to him again and again.

The more they talked, the harder it was to talk any longer about Crazy, and so they switched topics to talk about the battle they had recently experienced. This battle had been far too intense for them and so they had plenty of questions they wished to ask each other.

“Kite, do you remember seeing Crazy use an incantation at any point of her spellcasting?” Elric immediately asked the biggest question on his mind.

“You noticed that too! She shouts whenever she spellcasts, but I never heard a single chant!”

“What I really want to know is how she can use four elements at once. She doesn’t have another two heads like that wolf, does she?”

“Also, Elric, did you see just how quickly Crazy was gathering her mana? She was casting spells left and right without stopping almost!”

“I did! I’m also pretty curious about that black sphere. How’d she emerge from that? What was that actually, I’ve never heard of a spell like that before.”

One after another, the two of them fired off their questions that they had discovered to one another.

It seemed that the electrical shock they had experienced had not only affected the nerves in their muscles, but their digestive systems as well. Even after an entire day, neither of the two had felt hungry.

Shortly after an entire day and night, the four apprentices were finally able to crawl back onto their feet. Inspecting the area, Elric was able to find out that they were in a giant room that was about fifty square meters and ten meters tall. The walls were made of entirely cyan bricks that were neatly stacked upon one another. To their front was a large entrance that was similar in style to the ones in Sina. But other than that, there was nothing else in the room but them. “

What is this place,

” everyone had thought.

“What is this room even meant for? This room is massive as well, what’s the point of that? Even for a training ground, isn’t this over the top? Something as big as this would only be good for running around.”

Staggering to the door, the four of them managed to slowly open the door before ultimately being stunned by the sight that greeted their eyes. If there were words capable of describing the oddity that was the laboratory they were in, then a giant castle would be the most apt way to describe it. A giant circular plaza could be seen with several dozen doors that lead to rooms similar to the one they were in could be seen; and at the center of the plaza, several long tables were arranged here and there. On one of the tables, Crazy could be seen seated on one of them.

It had been a rather long walk before the group managed to make it to Crazy.

“Ah, you’ve awake I see.” Despite the surprise in her voice, Crazy had seen them coming from long before.

“O’ great magus Crazy, regarding my previous mention of studying….” Jerry began.

Crazy immediately interrupted him, too lazy to listen to the rest of his speech, “Name a decent enough price and the Lanuæ spell is yours.”

“But—, I am but a mere apprentice with not even two sticks to rub together!” Inwardly, Jerry was immensely pleased with himself. For the entire morning, he had been in a frenzied panic on whether or not Crazy would really teach him Lanuæ or not. So much was his fluster that he had even begun to hyperventilate and find ways that could coerce Crazy into a good mode. And now seeing Crazy dispelling his doubts, Jerry was overjoyed.

“As a copperless student of magic, it is my biggest regret for not being able to peer into the deepest abyss. I have studied under a great master in the past and know not to live a false life. I have no grand delusions that a great master such as yourself will squander their precious time to teach an incompetent person such as this one. This one can only request for pity and a demonstration of my capabilities.”
