Chapter 269: 269 - Kurt

Noah watched the as the vampire's blade came right up to his face, but contrary to what one would expect, Noah wasn't scared or even the slightest bit terrified. In fact, he was calm knowing he wasn't going to die.

*Clang!*

Just as the vampire's sword was about to hit Noah, a transparent sword made of ice got in the way and stopped the monster's sword from advancing. The captain had ordered the ice knight to go after the vampire as soon as Noah appeared, but as the distance between the two was so great, even though the ice knight was faster than the vampire, it still took a little while for him to catch up.

Taking advantage of the time saved by the Ice Knight, Noah teleported once more, this time to 20 meters away from the two, as he was no longer producing flames to attack the vampire and was able to regain some mana by burning the other two dead bodies. The amount of flames Noah had created in this battle was frightening. The mana provided by the Rank B ogre was several times the mana provided by the two Rank C trolls together.

The vampire was currently on fire, but not only that, he had at least a three-foot layer of highly concentrated flame around him, making the vampire look like a fiery giant, who fought bravely against the Ice Knight. But adding to the fact that he was constantly being burned by Noah's flames, and that the Ice Knights' stats being much higher despite having only one arm, the vampire didn't last long fighting the summoned creature.

However, what surprised Noah even more as he watched this battle was that the Ice Knight was being affected by his flames, but not enough to melt him immediately. Of course, the Ice Knight was being melted very fast by this fire, but it still wasn't fast enough for him to become a puddle of water right away.

That said, looking at the same facts from a different point of view, the one who was more surprised than Noah was, in truth, the Rank B Captain. He was very confident in his ice knight, after all. That summons of his was what made him stand out among his Rank B peers, as he could use a Rank B monster as a puppet and fight bravely on the front lines without fear of death, making him invincible at Rank C, and very powerful at Rank B. But right now he was clearly seeing that his invocation was being melted by the fire of a Blessed Rank C! How couldn't he get mad?!

'How powerful is this flame?' the captain asked himself mentally as he swallowed hard.

But what the captain didn't know was that the reason the speed was so slow for the ice knight to melt was because the monster had no soul. If it had had a soul, that speed would have been at least 2x faster, or maybe even more, depending on its sin. But still, it would be almost impossible to melt the monster in a few seconds, which would be fatal for Noah to deal with an enemy like that. But still, managing to melt the ice knight the captain was so pleased with was something that would make any Blessed Rank C extremely proud to the point where he could brag to his friends every night for a year.

In a few seconds the battle was over. B Rank B Blessed battles were different from the ranks below. As you'd expect, with increased agility, battles like this tended to last less, as there were many more attacks per second. And in the end, the vampire ended up dying and becoming fuel for Noah.

Unfortunately there was no essence inside that monster, and even sadder was finding that inside the ogre there were no Rank B essences either, just 3 Rank C essences.

"Boy, what the fuck was that?" The captain spoke to Noah in an annoyed voice, but from the captain's expression, it was easily readable to Noah that he was not annoyed, but rather happy and worried. That touched Noah, who didn't imagine that this mighty Blessed could care about weaker Blesseds.

"I'm Blessed. We went into fortresses to kill monsters. I just did what I'm used to - kill monsters," Noah responded with a neutral expression, as if he were a robot saying something pre-programmed.

Seeing the way Noah said that, the captain was speechless, making the two stare at each other for a few seconds before they both laughed at the situation.

"Hahaha, that was good boy! If more Blessed had courage like you, the quality of today's Blessed would be much better," the captain said with a smile. "But the number would also be much smaller, as everyone would have died stupidly!" the captain yelled at Noah one last time.

"Hehe, it's alright. We killed the monster after all, right?" Noah responded matter-of-factly as he deactivated his [Devil Form] and squeezed the side of his helmet to open the front and leave his face open so he could breathe better after this stressful battle. Not even fighting the castle vampire was as stressful as it was now.

For the second time to that day Noah had almost died, and he didn't like the experience one bit. At this point he just wanted to sit on the unicorn's back and rest until he got home, but apparently the boss hadn't died yet, as they hadn't seen the necromancer.

"Hey Kurt, go get the other Blessed out there," Noah yelled at the imp that could use [Hell's Gate] while making up a name for him to facilitate communication.

From their link, the imp whom Noah had yelled at knew Noah was talking to him, but he couldn't move. The imp was shocked that his master had given him a name! He was the first imp in history, in all the millions of years of it, to be given a name! He felt very special as he opened a big cute smile (only Noah felt it was cute) and ran out of the cave to call the others Blessed.

The other imps looked at the newly appointed Kurt with envy and amazement. They never imagined they could be named by their master, and this made them even more agitated to train and get stronger so that maybe one day they would also receive names from their master. But what no one there knew, was that as Kurt ran out of the cave, the biggest difference in him was not just the smile he felt, but also that something inside him was changing, as if an evolution were happening.
