Chapter 111: Aston Martin

Noah was not short of money. He would receive $3,000 for each Fortress he invaded, even reaching $4,000 if it was a special Fortress, which meant Noah had an average salary of at least $20,000 if he invaded two Fortresses a week. Unfortunately, however, this was still far from the money he needed to pay for Maggy's treatment.

The $100,000 number he said to Robert was not a random number that he just came up with on the spot, in fact, it was the starting money he would need to begin treating his sister, but to put that money together while being a Blessed Rank D, Noah recognized it would take several months of hard work, and since he had just reached level 03, he knew it would be a while before he reached Rank C, so it would be a while before he could start paying for Maggy's treatment.

But hearing from Robert that he could win $85,000 in a single day in a fight, made Noah truly consider fighting for other people's entertainment, even if he had to give up some secrets he had about his own power, for instance, teleporting in front of people with possible malicious intent, if that meant he could get Maggy out of the hospital and improve his little sister's life.

As much as he had self respect and was feeling much more comfortable having more money to spend, that was never his goal. From the beginning, he was always dedicated to being able to protect and help Maggy with everything the little girl needed, and if he needed to lose an arm and a leg to cure her illness, he would take the knife himself and saw these limbs off of himself.

Seeing an opportunity to free the little girl from the suffering she had been in for years, a few months earlier than it would take presently, truly made Noah consider accepting the offer.

He knew that Robert was not offering it with good intentions; he was probably just mocking Noah and wanting to see him in fear or embarrass himself in front of everyone, while Robert would meet up with his friends and have fun laughing at Noah's expense.

But Noah knew that in the end, strength was the one who dictated the truth, so as long as he had enough strength to guarantee himself victory, he shouldn't have to worry about anything else. His only concern was about the last fight, that if there was a blessed Rank C, he would probably have to give his all to be able to beat that person. However, remembering that there were not so many Blessed Rank Cs in the city made Noah feel a bit more confident about it.

"How long will this last?" Noah asked Robert, showing that he was at least slightly interested.

This made Robert raise an eyebrow in surprise. He wasn't sure if Noah would really take the bait, after all, in his mind, Noah was just a weak Blessed Rank F.

'He's probably very confident in himself, thinking that just because he can handle some weak Blessed Rank E he could win the fight? Hahaha, well they say that there are many frogs that live in wells, just looking up through that cramped space and thinking that the sky is just that size. Apparently he is still like one of those frogs who never left the well and need to find out the truth about the sky. I won't mind being the one who will show how deceived he is about the world, and how insignificant his strength really is,' Robert thought as he looked at Noah as if he were someone to be pitied.

From Robert's facial and body expression, Noah could very well imagine what he was thinking, but that didn't mean Noah cared enough to try to change that opinion of him, as only absolute strength was needed to prove things to people like Robert. If he found a Blessed Rank C much more powerful than himself, and at the end of the fight he couldn't win, the only thing he would need to do is to give up the fight and get out of there, even if he needed to teleport out. He really wanted that money, but not to the point of giving up his life for it. In the end, if he lost, he would just have to go back to his previous plan to gather money by breaking into Fortresses to help Maggy.

"Usually, these fights do not last more than three hours until the grand finale," Robert said in a much more accommodating voice, as if he had gone from an immature and troubled child, to now acting as a teacher who was telling his disciple something.

'Hmm, if this is going to last three hours, even when the fight is over I will still have a few hours to have fun with Maggy in the hospital, and if all goes well, I can use the money from the fight to talk to the doctor and start treatment for her.' Noah thought about the weather, as it were, and saw that everything was fine.

"Okay, when are we going?" Noah finally stopped walking, causing Robert to also stop the car that was walking slowly beside him following Noah's speed.

Robert was really surprised by Noah's response, but he promptly opened the passenger door for Noah while thinking that he would truly have fun today, with Noah being the chief source of that entertainment.

With a smug expression on his face, Robert said to Noah, "Come on, like I said, I was going to a fight now that should start in a few minutes, but I believe that if we pay a little more he would still put your name on the list of participants. Don't worry, as I invited you, I will pay your registration myself. Just don't die inside; I don't want to deal with any bodies."

Noah simply ignored what was said last and responded. "Thanks for paying the subscription."

He knew Robert wasn't doing this to be a good person or something; Robert probably had some hidden reason for doing this, in Noah's view, but it wasn't like he cared too much. At least because of that, Noah would save a few hundred or thousands of dollars. For these fights to have such high prizes, in addition to the money earned on bets, the registration fee also tended to be very high to separate the mediocre fighters from the real fighters who would generate entertainment for the public. With a high fee, only those who really believed they had a chance to win would sign up. After all, neither the fighter nor a sponsor would pay to sign up for a fight that they themselves did not believe the competitor could win.

Closing the car door, Noah began to take a closer look at the vehicle and realized that he was very pleased with it. Apart from the fact that the interior of the car was covered in red leather, which Noah thought was much more flashy than he would really like to have in a car, everything else was very well done. Comfortable seats, screens and holographic projections that demonstrated specifications and performance statistics were spread throughout the car, which demonstrated very well the technology and care that the automaker took when making that particular model. It was something that really pleased Noah.

Robert, who loved attention, instantly noticed Noah's gaze drawn around the car and started to explain. "Do you like my DBS? This is a masterpiece made by Aston Martin. In the first version, it did 0-100 km / h [0-60 mph] in 3.4 seconds, but this version already manages to do it in 2.6 seconds, having a top speed of 400 km / h [250 mph]. This toy cost over $400,000. Who knows, maybe one day you'll be able to buy one? Pffft Who am I kidding? Maybe with the money you earn you can buy a mini cooper at most and pay your debts" Robert said with a smug expression again, as if Noah would never be able to buy a car like that in his life.

Actually, Robert had financed this car to be able to buy it, since with his salary of Blessed Rank D it would take a long time for him to get enough money to buy the car in cash, but nobody needed to know that.

Noah, when he heard the price of the car, felt a little discouraged, he didn't feel that the car was more worth it than his sister who needed treatment, so he certainly wouldn't end up buying a car like that if there was no money left to help with Maggy's treatment. But when he was a Blessed Rank C, in addition to earning $100,000 a month, if he invaded 3 Fortresses a week, he could also earn more money because of the fame that high ranking would bring to him. Only then would it be possible for him to buy a $400,000 car without fear or concern.

During the trip to the fight site, Robert just kept showing off how many expensive things he had, how strong he was, how much money he received each month and how much trash Noah was, which Noah started to ignore after the first 3 minutes of hearing him talking about so much bullshit over and over.

Because of the high speed the car reached on the roads where it could accelerate freely, it took them only a few minutes to reach the competition site.

Before going, Noah had already sent Terrence to the other dimension through the contract portal without Robert realizing it, since he knew that the trip in the car would be even more unbearable if Robert saw Terrence and for some reason decided that he wanted to buy Noah's friend, which Noah would obviously reject and a fight might even have ended up breaking out between them.

The place at which they arrived was strangely an old and apparently abandoned warehouse in the industrial zone of the city, a place without much supervision, which obviously facilitated crime and the execution of illegal things such as the fights that would take place today. Although they did not have to worry about criminality, since each person there was either a very powerful Blessed person, or someone rich enough to hire a powerful Blessed One to protect them.

If a person became a powerful Blessed person, it was very difficult for them to lead a criminal life, since they would probably dedicate themselves to Fortresses in order to earn more money, and maybe inside the place they would kill other people to increase their share of profits in the invasions.

Noah already met a couple of people like that when he was still going to Rank F Fortresses, but fortunately the situation was handled by the group's strongest Blessed Ones, who had come together to invade a Rank F Fortress, which was not so unusual at that level.

So for the battle, the only thing he would have to worry about was the criminals in suits, because those would be a headache to deal with.
