107 I'll Accompany You

"Ingrid, I know you have evaded this topic so much, but in all honesty, I think the child needs to know who his father is."

Ingrid felt frightened at his suggestion and tried to disagree with him.

"I am afraid that he won't understand it, I think it's not yet the time. He is too young to understand things." She slightly protested. "And what if... what if the child will be taken away from me?"

"Oh no, no, don't think like that, no one's gonna take Clark away from you, I promise that in my best capacity that he will stick beside you and to all the people he loved. I promise to protect you and Clark." But then he paused and heaved a long sigh preparing how to give her something to think about. So he continued to speak gently.

"Why would you do that?" Ingrid's brows furrowed. But Clifford evaded her gaze.

"Listen to me, Ingrid. I will speak only from my own experience. You know that I grew up relying only to the love my mother gives. But I am not complaining about it, because she has lavished me with so much love and care that no one can give me. Yet, there was still lacking in my life, that is, a father's love. One time, I gathered so much courage to ask my mom about my father. I saw pain in her eyes, thinking her love for me was not enough."

Ingrid thought about her son and how he longs and asks for a father. Holding her tears, she felt a lump in her throat makes her like choking. He moved his gaze at a far.

"My mom is the strongest woman I know, that's why despite the pain she felt, she told me the truth. I remembered that she cried that time because she knew that she could not introduce me to my father because they were already divorced for a long time and their divorce was not in good terms. She also feared that I will be taken away from her, because I am the only heir. Nevertheless, I a.s.sured her that it won't happen. Back then, I was just so happy that my mom told me the truth and l just watched my father from a distance. As it turned out, fate arranged everything and the rest is history." He s.h.i.+fted his gaze to her. "...That's why I am telling you, this time is crucial for you and Clark. Don't allow anyone to intervene with your relations.h.i.+p with Clark." He sincerely counselled.

"How will I do that? Where should I start? I know he will want a name, but who will I present?" Ingrid was perplex and was even more concerned about the relations.h.i.+p with her son than the impending situation that would explode any moment.

"Do you know that Clark suggested that you should start with Dr. Sam?" Ingrid's eyes widen by surprise.

"Clark said that?" Clifford nodded.

"Yup, on our way here, while you were sleeping and I saw how Clark loves you and he told me something that caught me by surprise."

"Huh?" Clifford did not reveal anything but stared at her eyes, searching for something.

"And I think your son is right." He whispered. Ingrid could no longer follow what he was saying as she was lost in her thoughts.

"What are you saying?" she could only ask.

"If you should decide to go to the fertility clinic, I am willing to accompany you. I need some information from Dr. Samantha, too." Ingrid could not speak.

"Information about what?" she curiously asked.

"Hmmm about the sperm I donated. I think she gave it to someone and I want to know who the beneficiary was." He said firmly.

"H-How did you know?" her heart started to throb.

"Haven't I told you that we met on the first day I was in Maldives?"

"Did you?" her mind was now in chaos.

'Oh G.o.d, what is happening?' her thoughts screamed.
