-3 Chapter Fifteen

I was left in the cold cell all night. I couldn't sleep. It was all too much. The pain. The hurt. I just couldn't handle it. I lived through it all until the sun came up. No one had visited me since last night and to be honest, I prefer it that way. I couldn't take any more pain. I was already weak and severely wounded. I didn't need more wounds. I didn't need to loose more blood.

My ears p.r.i.c.ked up as I heard some footsteps. My heart raced. An horrible chill dashed through my bones. Was he here again? Wasn't it enough? I really didn't want anymore. The pain and wounds from yesterday were enough for me.

I heard voices. It wasn't him. Nyx was here. I am sure it is his voice. He wants to come in.

"I am sorry but we can't let you in."

"I only want to see her. I promise you. Only for a minute. You can come along if you want to."

"Fine but only for a minute."

I heard the doors to the bas.e.m.e.nt opened and with instinct I turned my back. I didn't want to see him. I couldn't handle seeing him. My blood boiled as I heard the footsteps stop. He was right in front of my cell. But almost immediately, I heard more footsteps and the bas.e.m.e.nt door shut. I heard his voice again. Before he left.

"I told you I wouldn't take too long."

Jerk.

I couldn't believe it. His dad really was right. He didn't feel anything for me. All he said were all a lie. I meant nothing to him. Tears clouded my eyes. My head pounded and the cell walls caved in.

The clouds exploded and the storm raged on as the trees rustled with desperation. Heavy drops rolled down the window as the entire desolate world felt my grief.

The heaven lamented along with me and every creature, living and dead, witnessed my sorrow. My head ached along with my heart. Hours rolled past, as I and the heaven sang out our lamentations.

From far away, I heard faint sounds. I heard bodies fall to the ground. I heard the cell gate opened and someone walked in. I turned my lifeless body round and looked up into the intruder's eyes.

"If you are here to laugh at how naive I was, then please leave," I whispered with the only essence I had left in my body.

"I am not here for that, I came to explain."

"No need for that, your dad explained everything very clearly."

"No, it is not true. You know whatever he said is not true. Right?"

"I know, that I am stuck here because of you."

"No, it is not like that, believe me," he pleaded.

"So you didn't fake saving me and my grandma, is that what you are trying to tell me?"

"Yes I did, but then I realised that this isn't all your fault and you were born into this fight just like I was and everything changed."

"Do you actually think I will believe that? I might be fooled once but it won't happen again. How could you? I trusted you when everyone didn't? I defended you on countless occasions when Uncle Eduardo rambled on how you couldn't be trusted, " I complained, my voice raised.

"I am not messing with you, Yna. If it is not true I won't be here trying to explain things to you. And please lower your voice or it will draw the guard's attention. "

"I don't want your explanation," I spat, turned my body away and waited in the eery silence to hear him walk away.

"I was sent to learn your secrets and report back. But after all the we spent together, I knew I couldn't do it any longer. I came here to try and convince my dad to stop. I risked everything and came to change his mind. But it didn't work. He locked me up in a cell and headed to your house. "

"Do you actually think I will believe that c.r.a.p? "

"I understand that it might be hard to believe what I just said but please trust me and follow me."

"And why would I do that?"

"Because if you don't, you will die and all those who died because of you would have died for nothing. This is the only chance if escaping so please follow me now before they realise anything."

"Fine, but not because I am stupid enough to believe you but because I need to escape."

"Fine, whatever. Get on this," he said as he wheeled in a wheelchair.

"I am completely capable of walking," I spat out.

"But are you completely capable of running?"

"Fine," I said and frowned as I reluctantly sat in the wheelchair.

"Hold this bag, there are weapons inside so please be careful with them. We will take the door at the back of the bas.e.m.e.nt. We need to get out now before my dad comes to check on you. It will be harder for them to catch up if we are in the woods," he suggested as he wheeled me out of the cell and towards the door.

He took out a stretched out hairpin and used it to open the old and rusted door.

The heavy wind roared with great pleasure. The trees filled their barren branches with green leaves. The flowers stretched their roots and the earth came to life. I felt a wave of relief shower over me as I breathed the fresh, scented air.

The sun broke free from the clouds that kept it captive and shone its glorious light on the world below.

I looked at the sand-filled ground, as I was wheeled past. I s.h.i.+fted in the chair and put one of my feet on the ground.

Green gra.s.s grew beneath my feet and spread round the forest. Cute, little daisy sprouted and were dotted around in the world's new green carpet.

Heaps of dust filled with pollen enveloped my leg and we watched as my skin absorbed the pollen and use it to heal the wounds.

"Did that just happen?" Nyx stupidly questioned.

"Yes, I need to get up. Nature can heal me. But I think for that to happen I need to connect with it."

"What do you mean connect with it?"

"I need to touch it."

"Ohhh," he commented as he helped me off the wheelchair.

I was right. My bones awakened as nature slowly healed me; it started with my legs. I touched the tree closest to me to speed up the process and I felt my body welcome the pollen.

The beautiful atmosphere was disturbed by a loud siren that came from a distance.

"We need to go now, Yna. Are you done?"

"Yes."

"Run!"

We ran through the forest hand in hand. We didn't have anywhere in mind but we still kept running. I touched the ground and felt its vibrations.

"They are coming. Keep running. I will try and delay them, " I warned. I struck the ground and our sprouted tall flowers. I stretched out my hands and watched them grow bigger. Wider. Taller. Until the path was blocked by an army of trees. I touched a vine and spread it around the trees. Then sprinted through the woods and caught up with Nyx.

"That should hold them back for a few  hours but they are bound to get past it. They will need to cut all the trees first."

"Or burn them," Nyx added.

"They can't. The fire would only strengthen those trees. They will actually have to cut everything down. It won't be easy though. First they need to start with the vines and the gra.s.s before they can get to cut down the trees."

"Wow, you really did all that in less than 5 minutes."

"Yes. We need to go to my house. Get grandma and aunt Laila, more food, water, weapons and maybe a few clothes and leave."

"OK, but do you know the way?"

"No, but I know what does. We will use the trees since there are no birds around."

"How?"

"I don't actually know but we will find out I guess. Amor says nature can tell what I want as long as I think about what I want and try to connect with nature as much as I can. And since I want to know the way, it makes more sense to connect with nature through the ground," I answered.

I touched the ground and almost like magic the gra.s.s spilt. A long sandy path was created in the middle for us to follow.

We strolled down the never ending path. It just kept going and going. After what finally felt like forever, I saw it. Just at the end of the path.

My house.
