Chapter 3

When Xia Man saw the photos in her room, she stumbled. She had never seen them.

Because she had never been to Qu Zhen's room before.

The person on the photos was standing, sitting, and even sleeping, her eyes closed. And without exception, there was a person standing next to her.

Qu Zhen didn't overdo it, she just forgot.

Xia Man just smiled. "Qu Zhen, I told you, didn't I? You should make more friends. Just look, except for me, there are no other people in the photos…"

That was what Xia Man said, but as to what she thought, only she herself knew.

Hearing this, Qu Zhen looked at Xia Man, her feelings complicated. She felt fortunate, but regretful at the same time.

She didn't know what she was regretting.

Qu Zhen hugged Xia Man to her bed. "Lie down here first, I'll come back soon." Qu Zhen then sweeped Xia Man's bangs, and softly continued, "Call me if you need anything, don't get up. Understand?"

Xia Man fixed her gaze at Qu Zhen, before finally nodding.

Afterwards, Xia Man looked around at the pictures of herself, her eyes moistened.

Her former self had always thought that Qu Zhen's feelings for her were just alms, always high and never equal.

Xia Man really wanted to bury herself. What was she thinking back then?

Xia Man slowly buried her head in the quilt, her body slowly curling. Smelling Qu Zhen's scent again, tears began streaming down.

She almost depleted her entire lifetime's tears.

When Qu Zhen came back, she saw the Xia Man on the bed. She was too thin, so thin that she could see her bones. She felt pained.

She didn't know how she could comfort Xia Man. From small to big, there was nothing she could do, except for standing behind her.

Qu Zhen walked over, laid down, and gently embraced Xia Man.

When Xia Man felt Qu Zhen's touch, she immediately raised her head and hugged her back. The moment she looked up, Qu Zhen clearly saw her tears.

She felt like her heart was being p.r.i.c.ked by needles. Is that Xiang Yang so important to her? She had never seen her cry before, but she cried thrice today.

Qu Zhen frowned. Was she wrong?

Xia Man buried her head in Qu Zhen's arms and continued crying, as though she was letting her pain and sorrows flow out of her.

Qu Zhen stroked Xia Man's head, and asked in a hoa.r.s.e voice, "Do you really love him that much?"

Saying those words, her voice was trembling.

Xia Man shook her head. She never loved anyone, her favorite person had always been her, Qu Zhen, even until her death…

Qu Zhen tilted Xia Man's face up and gently wiped away her tears. "You don't need to if you don't love him. There will always be someone better. You deserve someone better."

No, I doesn't deserve anyone.

Xia Man had never hated herself so much. To her, everything was her fault. Everything was because of her.

Her lowliness, her suspicions, and her selfishness hurt Qu Zhen and killed her. In this life, she'll make those who used her to hurt Qu Zhen suffer. She won't let them live.

"Qu Zhen…" Xia Man tried to take back her tears and looked at Qu Zhen.

"What's wrong?" Qu Zhen wiped her tears and softly asked, her eyes filled with distress.

Xia Man couldn't understand her gaze.

Why does Qu Zhen love her?

To Xia Man, Qu Zhen is a sun, always s.h.i.+ning and emitting warmth. She has everything and nothing to lose.

But she was just a speck of dust.

She was a defective product.

n.o.body would really believe that Qu Zhen would ever actually be friends with themselves. Xia Man was no different. Qu Zhen even took away the guys she liked. Xia Man began to doubt Qu Zhen. She didn't make herself a friend at all. Just as they said, she was just a dog used by Qu Zhen to keep others away…

Qu Zhen held Xia Man and gently patted her back. "Go sleep. It'll be a wonderful day tomorrow."

Perhaps because she was just reborn, her entire body was exhausted. Or maybe it's because of Qu Zhen's scent. Silence soon filled the room, and Xia Man slowly closed her eyes.

Qu Zhen looked at Xia Man's closed eyes, a little red from all the tears.

Qu Zhen stared for a while, then lowered her head. She lightly kissed her slightly pale lips, her gaze filled with sorrow.

After Qu Fu quietly got out of bed, the one who was sleeping suddenly opened her eyes.

How could someone from the last days completely lower her guard?

When Qu Zhen kissed her, she was already awake.

Watching Qu Zhen turn of the lights and go out, Xia Man touched her lips, where there was another warm touch a moment ago.

Xia Man had a complicated look in her eyes. In this lifetime, she doesn't want Qu Zhen to fall for her. She doesn't have anything. Without her, Qu Zhen would have a good life in the last days. She's just a burden.

Xia Man faintly heard voices outside. She slowly climbed down, feeling the floor covered with a thick wool blanket. Xia Man suddenly remembered. When she was living in the last days, both of them had lived together for a while. Back then, the floor of Qu Zhen's room was also covered with thick wool blankets. From the beginning, the reason why Qu Zhen pursued a life of quality was all for the sake of her foot's comfort.

Xia Man walked to the door. Just when she was about to open it, she heard Qu Zhen's voice, filled with anger. "What do you mean untreatable?! Can't you find a way?!"

Xia Man decided not to open the door, but stayed behind it.

"Apologies, Miss Qu. I've said from the very start, there's very little hope." The doctor's voice sounded.

Qu Zhen sighed, her tone filled with defeat. "Go, I need some time alone."

Xia Man leaned against the door, her heart filled with pain. Not because of her foot's injury, but because of Qu Zhen.

She'd always known that Qu Zhen had been looking for ways to treat her foot. She knew that Qu Zhen cared for her, but she never expected that she cared for her this much.

When Xia Man opened the door, Qu Zhen was sitting quietly on a sofa, looking out the window in a dispirited manner.

Xia Man raised her injured foot, getting ready to go downstairs.

Qu Zhen heard the noise. When she looked up and saw Xia Man, her heartbeat accelerated.

"Manman, don't move, I'm coming." Qu Zhen stood up and ran over.

Seeing Qu Zhen's panicked reaction, she jumped down, almost giving Qu Zhen a heart attack.

She had never done such a thing before. She'd always been the type who feels inferior yet prideful, so she'd never do something that'd show her weaknesses.

But right now, she wasn't that person. She was the one Qu Zhen favored most, the one she treated like a princess.

The one who's inevitably flawed yet extremely prideful had died in the last days. Right now, all she wants to do is live a good life, to live peacefully.
