71 Chapter 16: Difference

Zhander stopped playing with his teacup and stared at his grandfather. He and his grandfather were having their breakfast at their Family mansion's garden.

He sighed and didn't say anything.

How could he? He just got rejected by a girl for the first time.

He sighed once more, ma.s.sive than his previous one.

"Is it about Leanna?"

His eyebrows twitched.

"Let me guess. You got turned down."

Luke Jansen leisurely sipped his tea seemingly amused at his current state.

He glared at his grandfather.

"Grandfather, instead of enjoying yourself at my predicament. Why don't you help me think of ways on how to advance and covet her from Cain?"

Luke Jansen paused from the surprising news, and then warmth flashed from his eyes. He smiled softly, "I always knew that she's smart. It's a good thing she followed my advice."

"What!?" He snapped at his grandfather. "You'd rather support Cain than your very own grandson?!"

He didn't know what to make of the situation. He was angry, frustrated, sad and other emotions that were new to him. He was never in this kind of situation before. It was always smooth sailing for him. He couldn't accept the fact that Cain beat him to Leanna's heart right under his nose!

If I know this will happen, I should have just force my way into her heart instead of taking it slow.

Luke Jansen stared at his grandson calmly, he put down his teacup and leaned comfortably.

"Do you know why?" Luke Jansen asked.

Zhander gave his grandfather a contemptuous glare. "Is it because she's not good enough for me like all the women I dated in the past? You'd always complain about how they're not proper, or their family wasn't good enough, or their face wasn't beautiful enough. Even complain about their hair!" He exclaimed.

Luke Jansen held his chin, smiling slyly. "Did I ever say that?"

"You--!"

"If Leanna is any other girl, I would have given you my full support. I will even force her to marry you."

"Then why?"

His grandfather stared at him earnestly. The intensity in his grandfather's eyes made him uncomfortable.

"The problem is… Leanna is not just any other girl. I've watched and given her advice since she was twelve. You can say that she already became like a real granddaughter to me."

"So you're saying that I'm the one who is not good enough for her?!" Zhander leaned and crossed his arms in surrender.

"Do you know what is the difference between you and Cain Fay?" Instead of answering his question, his grandfather continued.

He gave his grandfather a bored, impatient look. "What?" He asked.

"You see. You look at Leanna like you wanted to give her everything you have."

"And that's a bad thing?!" He almost wanted to jump from his seat in disbelief.

"No, it's not..., but Cain Fay is different."

"How is he different?!" He sneered.

Luke Jansen stared solemnly at his grandson.

"Cain… he looks at Leanna like he wanted to give up everything he have just to be with her."

He froze.

"See the difference?" Luke Jansen stood up from his seat and slowly walked towards the mansion. "Don't mistake love for your ego." Then he disappeared from his sight.
