12 Everything Is Different Now.

Jayden woke up covered in sweat. He was shaking all over his body. "When will the dreams stop?" he thought. Suddenly his mom burst into the room. She took one look at him walked over and took him in her embrace. "I must have been screaming in my sleep again," he thought. Being hugged by his mom like this he started sobbing uncontrollably. "I'm sorry mom I did not want to wake you again," he said through the tears. Mom was heartbroken seeing him like this. "Shhhh it's ok, you can let it all out. Cry as much as you need mommy is here," she said in a soothing voice. Tears were starting to come to her eyes as well but she forced them back. She had to be strong for her son. She had to be strong for all of them.

"Thank you, mom, I'm ok now," Jayden said. He knew his mom needed her sleep. She would have to get up early for work. "Are you sure? I can stay for as long as you need" she said. "mhmm I feel a lot better now" he said. She looked at him and sighed. She knew he was holding back but there was nothing she could do to help. "I can't believe almost 2 years have gone by," she thought while leaving the room.

Jayden couldn't sleep anymore so he went to take a shower. When he took off his clothes he noticed the scaring on his hands, arms, and chest. Even after so long the scaring had not fully healed. His face was mercifully spared from the scarring though. He must have protected himself with his arms during the accident. He fully undressed and went under the shower.

Listening to the running water his mind went back to the scene he saw that day.

Jayden kept screaming. He was in shock and help was nowhere to be seen. The car that rammed then did not stop to provide help but left the scene as fast as possible. Jayden could not pry his eyes from his father. This did not help calm him down. His father's body was melded together with the door and the three. ".....Jayden...." his father called out to him in a barely audible voice. This managed to stop Jayden screaming. "Dad! Dad! What should I do? I don't know what to do? "My...phone....call....the....police" Dad managed to squeeze out. "The police! Right!" Jayden started looking for the phone. It took him just a few seconds to find the phone but to him, it seemed like forever. "I found the phone dad!"Jayden said. He got no response. This frightened him even more and he called the police. "h.e.l.lo! please help us we crashed and my dad, my dad he's not speaking to me anymore. Please hurry, come quickly" Jayden begged them to hurry. "We need to know where you are to get there as fast as possible. Do you see anything you recognize? The operator asked. "We were driving on the long road close to my home," Jayden said. He gave his home address and also managed to provide them with a few key landmarks. This made it easy to pinpoint their location. "The police and ambulance are on the way. Can you talk to your father? See if he's awake!" The operator asked. "Dad! Dad, the police are coming! Wake up, dad! Please!" Jayden was crying while trying to get his dad to respond. He kept trying but there was no answer.

"They are really close no sweety. Hold on for just a minute now oke" the operator said. Jayden mumbled something inaudible. He had lost a lot of blood and was now slipping in and out of consciousness. He could vaguely hear the sirens coming closer and remembered being gently pulled out of the car. Paramedics kept trying to draw his attention but all he could say was "help dad, he's hurt help dad" "They are taking care of your dad son. Can you tell me your name?" They asked him while he was being carefully loaded into the ambulance.

Jayden wasn't paying them any more attention. When they lifted him in the ambulance the tilded the carriage just enough so he could see the wreckage of their car. This wasn't what caught his attention though. He could see the paramedics putting a blanket over his dad's mutilated body. When they also covered his face Jayden knew. He had seen this often enough on television. One last thought went through his head before he finally lost consciousness.

His father was dead.
