3 What She Saw In The Looking Glass

Her future was boundless and soon she became the disciple of Tabitha, a seer. A seer, is someone who is blessed with eyesight that allowed one to see the future, past and present. Seers are far and few between and are mainly recognized for their ability to find a person's soul mate. A soul mate is as the name implies, someone whose soul is one half yours, someone who was made especially for you, someone to love and understand you unconditionally.

However many do not meet nor realize they are soul mates. Many influential and prestigious clans and sects are able to call upon a seer to match souls, but the ma.s.ses do not have this ability. That is why Tabitha is so highly regarded.

Many thought she had taken Frey due to Frey having such an ability. This was unfortunately not true. Tabitha had chosen Frey due to her potential and that she saw in Frey a broken soul. A broken soul is what can be regarded as someone who does not have a soul mate or was separated from theirs through a painful ritual of rejection. It is said that with each incarnation a soul mate remains a fixed variable. However if the other half dies with their soul shattering or if the ritual as previously mentioned as part of a permanent separation takes place, in the next incarnation the soul can only come back broken.

Tabitha was a broken soul and in Frey she saw herself.

When Frey learnt her soul was broken, her heart was devastated, the stories of love that she fantasized as a youth were broken promises. She wanted to see what Tabitha would not tell her, she wanted to know why.

Frey was always interested in time, so with the aid of many precious resources she strengthened her eyes and practiced a special divine ability. Most divine abilities just like martial abilities are ranked. However Frey practiced one that was not ranked as it was forbidden. Tabitha allowed her to do so, believing that each person makes their own faith with their own choices.

In order to practice the ability that would grant her foresight, she had to separate a piece of her soul. This piece was then soaked in her heart blood for three days and nights, following which it was polished for nine years with the blood of unicorns.

She then placed her soul into a looking gla.s.s and each year she would be able to distinguish more of the blurry images until she could piece together a picture. It was only later on that she learnt the energy required to look into the future was her vitality.

Her soul caged in the looking gla.s.s, was aged and sickly a sign that her soul was cut off not by her intention.

One of the first things she did was try to see if her senior brother was her soul mate. He was the boy who made her heart feel alive and her soul not as broken as though he could piece it together again.

Instead she saw his, his soul mate, her sister Fae.

She had not much regard for her sister before, she was mainly ignorant of her existence and yet the man she loved turned out to be her sisters beloved.

She knew he was not hers, but she could not find her own and he could mend what was left of her. Since that day she kept the two from ever meeting and arranged a marriage for her sister to a family who would no longer have any interaction with her own. However Frey's cultivation began to slow as her soul and mind had to be kept clear from muddy thoughts and actions. It was the first time Frey had ever done such a thing, for whenever she wanted something it would always be handed to her . It was the first time she ever truly wanted something and it was someone she could not have but the longer she kept it a secret the worst her cultivation became. It was not until she thought of a solution by helping her sister prevent the death of her children that her cultivation began to progress once more. For she could offset the karma for what she had done.

However what she saw in the looking gla.s.s would haunt her forever.

The carriage rattled on cloaked in darkness. A few precious moonstones were placed in and around the carriage. The amount of moonstones the size of a fingernail could be held in one hand. The biggest a pigeon egg was mounted to the front, helping illuminate the translucent horses. These horses were worth more than five of these carriages. They could barely be seen as they melted in the shadows, however their eyes were pearl white, the only indicator that they were actually there.

The horses were a gift from Frey. From this it could be seen the wealth and prestige of the Willow clan. The reason why these translucent horses were worth their weight in gold was because they were one of the few creatures that could travel in complete darkness. In this world there were only tales of a moon and stars shone rarely, the night was the most feared time and also the quietest.

These horses made little to no sound but inside the carriage was a woman in tears, three women accompanied her, her most trusted maidservant, and the wives of the two head guards she had brought with.

Her sister Frey was normally an ice cold beauty and yet Fae will never forget the look of panic and fear in her sisters eyes. How can a child be the cause of so much death. Frey had shown Fae what she had seen through a looking gla.s.s.

She hadn't told the Darten family a word and only snuck away at night, no one was to know where they were headed nor what she would do. Within her hand was a small blue vase covered with enchantments. She had a few options but none of them would allow her daughter to live normally, so she could only do what she could as a mother .
