96 Helplessness 1

Being called b*tch did not unfazed her one bit. It was after all a rambling of a cornered enemy.

'But what did she mean about that one? What useless baggage?'

A second later, her eyes dilated as she thought of what Clarissa could possibly mean.

'This woman...?'

'She's planning to mind-control my friend or sister again?'

Gio never came to her mind as he never had any chance of encountering Clarissa before the time she gave him the ring.

It was different for Wendy and Steffy though. They were all students from the same school! And Sofony couldn't be with them all the time!

Even though she already hypnotized them to never listen to anyone else who wants to control them, it would still not guarantee complete immunity. Also due to lack of points, she had yet to give them the same ring which Gio had!

'This is so...d.a.m.nable!'

Sofony's body trembled, her anger probably reached the highest peak today but thankfully she still retained a bit of reason.

'Sofony, don't lose your temper! Think of what to do!' she whispered thrice to herself.

The downpour of bullets was still ongoing. Sofony paid points to know how Clarissa's barrier works so she knew that before the thirty minutes were up, Clarissa wouldn't be able to move away. The system said the barrier could s.h.i.+eld the user from all attacks. However, its user wouldn't be able to leave unless he or she could teleport!

'This is bad, it means I won't be able to sneak attack her too!' With a heavy heart, she thought as she watched the bullet shower.

Sofony's eyes grew increasingly icy. Either due to anger or the self-hypnosis, she wanted to kill Clarissa to see if all her mind control will be canceled after her death! This was why she hated that she'd have to wait for thirty minutes!

Now she could only inhale and say, 'Stop it for now. Stop wasting ammo. Resume it thirty seconds before her barrier expires!'

While the system was laughing at her decision, hurling insults for whatever nonsense it could think of, she dashed into the room to bring Gio out of the place. She planned to leave Clarissa's life and death to fate. But for now, she wanted to check if Gio was still okay. Then after that, she'd bring him away and ask his people lurking around Wendy and Steffy to tighten their watch.

After pus.h.i.+ng the door open,

"Gio, I'm sorry! Are you...alright..."

When Sofony looked at the scene inside, she was dumbfounded to see everyone on the floor, except Gio. He was unhurt and was only slightly sweating. It was a mystery how there was not even a drop of blood on his clothes or body when red puddles were all around the unmoving thugs messily scattered around him. Since all of them looked deader than the dead, Sofony gasped in shock, her breathing getting ragged as time pa.s.sed.

'H-he... killed them all.. within three to four minutes?'

'T-this..'

Even though Sofony knew he was someone with bloodied hands, as she laid eyes on those he had just killed, it was hard for her to not get shaken. It was her first time being near to many corpses. Okay, it was actually already her second. However, her first experience was with people killed through an explosion, while the people here were killed personally by a person!

"Sofy?"

Her mind was recalled to her body when she heard his voice. She saw Gio looking around, his brows knitted. He was probably wondering if he heard correctly when he could not see even a shadow of her.

She bit her lips and decided to not think of the corpses around him. There were other pressing matters to consider! She currently had no time to think of what's wrong and moral!

She brought out the invisible powder again. She hurriedly strode towards Gio and scattered it all over him.

"Gio, it's me! Let's get out of here!"

The man widened his eyes after something unseen grabbed his wrist. It was soft and the feeling of it against his skin was familiar.

He knew she was really someone different. But witnessing how different was quite mind-boggling. The strength she exhibited earlier already amazed him. But now, there was another?

Since he still couldn't see anything, he couldn't help but say to himself, 'She must be invisible...'

Gio let himself be pulled out of the room. Outside, he saw many bullets blanketing the floor. But a little more than five meters away from them, the girl with beautiful bangs was in the middle of a circle exempted from the carpet of bullets.

Clarissa looked quite miserable. She was still beautiful, but her hair was messy and the right shoulder part of her long-sleeved blouse was torn. The lower part of her skirt was the same. She doesn't look like someone with injuries, but her clothes were tainted with blood. The girl seemed frustrated since he noticed that she was punching something in the air.

'She did this?' he asked himself while looking at the angrily panting woman. That Clarissa couldn't probably see him too as she was still busy punching an invisible wall even though he was standing tall at the hallway.

Sofony also stared at Clarissa. Hate showing from her eyes, but because she knew she had to do something about the controlled person first, she decided to reluctantly leave and proceed with the plan.

'Anyway, the rain of bullets will surely injure her again. I hate to do this, but I really wish her dead! That way, this world can become a bit cleaner!'

Of course, Sofony knew she had no right to wish that. But she just couldn't help herself from doing so. They wouldn't reach this stage if only the other sincerely talked with her today. Though she would never forgive Clarissa, if this talk would let her loved ones never be in danger again, she would have compromised. Unfortunately, Clarissa obviously wanted her dead. She didn't know how it was related to the other host, but she could guess that this and that were somehow related.

She shook her head as they headed to the elevator. By this time, her own invisibility had already expired. When they entered the elevator, Gio reappeared too. Thankfully there were no one around aside from them. Thankfully... because Sofony also materialized a small phone-like device.

"Gio," she anxiously called out. "Please help me contact your people and request them to tighten their guard of Wendy and Steffy!'

The man stared at her for a while, his thoughts unknown. However, after ten or so seconds, he took out his phone and called his a.s.sistant. He also asked a few things regarding the order he gave earlier. George's report stated that everything had long been done. However, this did not relieve the man as he did not manage to tell this to the annoying woman's face.

"A pity." Gio shook his head then ended the call. His gaze went back to the girl beside him and he saw her saying something on the device.

"A girl going by the name Clarissa Guzman is confirmed to have killed twenty men at the fourth floor of Cryptos. Everyone, you witness her doing the crime. It was she who shot those people to death. She's a criminal! Please, when the police arrive, testify that you see her threatening those men to do something, but then you all just saw her shooting them! A ma.s.s murderer like her should not be allowed to run rampant in the city anymore!" Sofony shouted to the device after she confirmed its connection to all the speakers at the place.

She then called the police and told them to come to this place.

'...Why are you suddenly telling me this when you happily refused me an hour ago?'

Sofony calmed herself down and ignored those matters for now. While she deeply appreciated her man's effort which would probably infuriate or trouble Clarissa deeply, Sofony was still more worried about the person the enemy had controlled.

What if Clarissa asked this person to commit a crime again? Or directly commit suicide?

'Who's the one targeted?' she tried to ask the devil in her head.

'...At times like this, you're useless...' she annoyedly scolded.

Left with little choice, all she could do was to ask Gio who between Steffy and Wendy was nearer to them right now.

"It's that sister of yours, and she's doing fine at your apartment. Your friend who has a police officer brother is at the station. She's with her brother's colleagues."

After listening to George from the other line, Gio ended the call and told Sofony. "Since you're this worried, we better separate. I'll help you check on that sister of yours. You go see your friend at the police station."

As she stared at him, she barely managed to stop herself from crying. She was very grateful that even though he's not supposed to be dragged in this, he still willingly stood by her side and supported her.

She took a deep breath and said, "Got it. I will just take a cab from here!"

He wordlessly nodded and got into the driver's seat of his car. Then as she watched him drove it away, she muttered her grat.i.tude for him in her heart. A few minutes later, she was already inside a taxi heading to the police station.
