224 Ruffled Feathers 2

She reappeared where Wendy was last seen.

It was not at the airport where the confused Steffy was left alone, panicking, and bothering another guard to look for the suddenly missing woman.

Teleportation could send system users anywhere they want to.

However, the maximum distance it would them to cross was only 10 miles.

If the distance was great, a series of warping had to be done.

She was sure the one who kidnapped Wendy was another teleporter host.

The system has just reported the woman being at the airport just a minute ago.

How come now the coordinates given to her change to that of the mini-forest adjacent to the endless desert of the borders?

Her eyes narrowed. The last time she had been to this place was just a week ago.

A mercenary from the neighboring empire tried to kill her ally and got mind-controlled in return.

Due to that mercenary being a non-host supporter, her interest was piqued, hence she teleported to this place to interrogate the person.

As a result, she learned the existence of a secret organization hiding one of its bases in the desert.

That time, she paid some attention to this group of people in hopes of getting clues to Gio's whereabouts. She even requested Chris to investigate.

Sofony initially dropped the matter since the one she was looking for had now returned to her side.

However, she couldn't help but remember them due to the current situation.

Were they the ones behind Wendy's disappearance?

She had long suspected that the evil group had more than a single system user amidst their ranks since the non-host mercenary, despite being a supporter, could be hypnotized, which meant that his host was weaker than Sofony, or even the half-host Chris.

Given these facts, why couldn't she inquire about them from the system back then? Weird, right?

It only meant that another host, possibly at the same level as, or even higher than her, owned that organization.

'It seems something troublesome did happen...'

She didn't delay for a second and teleported again. This time, she planned to scour the desert by herself to rescue that friend of hers.

Amidst the transfer, she wondered, was this their revenge against her?

Two days ago, she chanced upon a low-level host at C Empire who tried to pick a fight against her and even teleported with her to Gio's location through an expensive one time use device.

This immoral host ended up slapped to half-death by her.

Gio also seemed to have sent that person to one of his people in charge of the nasty and dirty stuff.

'If that stupid pig is their member, then it makes sense.'

How narrow-minded for those people to retaliate when she was the victim back then?

If that person did not provoke her, would she have any scuffle with him?

The frown on her face did not go away but deepen.

'However, doesn't it mean that the big boss of that group is at least level 7?'

When Sofony arrived in a dark alley of a small settlement at an oasis there, she had to stop for a while.

A few moments after, when the system could no longer supply her information on where Wendy was, she switched to asking where the upgraded platinum ring she gave to Wendy was, hoping it could help to locate the other woman.

Of course, it was blocked by the system.

If the location was masked, no matter what method she tries, it would prove futile... Unless her level was higher than the other user by at least two.

Just when her eyes were darkening so much from frustration, she saw felt some abnormalities in the air around her.

'Enemy?'

The sensation was very familiar.

Alerted, she took out her invisibility powder and sprinkled some all over her.

Then she stepped back into the shadows of the two-story brick shop on the right side of the alley.

"d.a.m.n!"

The figure revealed by the floating cl.u.s.ter of white particles was a handsome young man wearing a bloodstained denim jacket and black pants.

He had to cover his mouth with one of his hands as he coughed blood.

One of his knees collapsed on the ground, the arm which served as the supporting pillar as to not let his whole body fall trembled a lot.

This newcomer looked injured. Badly at that.

And this was not her looking down on the other, but if he was not healing himself, it meant that he was an easy prey.

A host without points was still a lot better than regular humans. But definitely, he would become an easy picking to even newbie system users, needless to mention to someone like Sofony whose points were in the millions.

'If a host appears here, there's a high chance he knows the group lurking or hiding around here.'

With her eyes turning lackl.u.s.ter, she decisively emerged from the shadows and reappeared behind the man with a knife on his throat.

After changing her looks and voice to that of what she usually used when secretly meeting up with Chris or Sofia, she softly said,

"Mister, you seem to be a local here. I'm a foreigner. And I'm urgently looking for a place located somewhere in this area. May you be as kind as to point me out where a certain playful but annoying rat's lair is?"

...

Sofony seemed to have hit the jackpot when finally after one last warping, she arrived in a spot next to a huge sphinx-like monument.

A few dozen meters away, she could see yellowish buildings hidden behind a never-fading mirage of the unending desert and tall sand dunes.

This must be the hideout of that shady organization headed by their co-host.

Next to her, the young man who she forced to come with her collapsed on both knees and coughed out blood again.

She threatened the person to lead her to the organization's den without truly knowing if he was related to or have knowledge of what group she was about was.

Thankfully, her gamble paid off.

But now what to do with this one?

She snickered sarcastically,

'As expected of the devilish you, what a nice suggestion. Stupid too.'

Sofony didn't know if the system was pretending to not be aware of a teleporter's minimum level.

She kept the knife away and glanced briefly at the man.

"You purposely led me here. And I felt thankful for that. However, I hate it that you seem to be planning something not favorable for me. So Mister, tell me what I should do to you?"

The pretty-faced man stared at her warily. But then laughed, "How did you know?"

"You're a teleporter, don't make me seem so stupid. I ride along because I need to get to this place. But don't think that I am an idiot. I only threatened you with a knife. You're a teleporter and could escape if you want to since I haven't set up any anti-s.p.a.ce s.h.i.+fting barrier on that alley."

The man straightened out his back a bit and then stood up,

"I simply don't want to waste points for anything. This is why I didn't fight you, Ms. Whoever."

She threw him a distrustful look.

However, it didn't take long for her to lose interest.

Anyway, there was another urgent matter that needs her attention.

A host which she could incapacitate if she wants to was not a priority whatsoever in this crucial moment.

It was because of this reasoning that she let the man off the hook and began to teleport again.

On that brief moment before she vanished from sight, since she had her back turned to the unknown host, she didn't see his eyes turning weird. He gazed at her as if he was pondering over something.

As he wiped the blood on the edge of his lips with his arm, he asked himself,

'Wendy's other rescuer? Her real backer?'

No answer came to him, naturally.

And he was not that dumb yet to voice out the question aloud.

No matter how high the likelihood or the chance that this woman was a helper, he wouldn't dare bet his own woman's safety on a stranger's hands.

With his resolve firmed up, he healed himself partly then purchased a few explosives to use against the enemies later.

'... d.a.m.n f*ckers, I have returned ahead of the schedule. But you all forced me to this. I'll blow all of you up together with your ugly hideout! All of you must die!!!!'

He swore as his heart raged for everything that happened today to him and the abrupt attack on his new designated supporter.
