192 Hunch 3

'Now that I think about it, I actually tried to check if I will be able to get his sched, and I did. If he's not the one you're looking for, then it is nothing suspicious. But if he's the real deal, then he's either too lax about himself, or purposely masqueraded as a normal guy as to not alert his 'colleagues' from the deep and dark web.'

Amelia opened her eyes and looked at the beautiful flower garden before her. It was around 9 pm of the next day, at the party thrown within Alina Victory Hall by the new city mayor as a celebration for being this year's host city of the Olympics.

She held the champagne flute in one hand while leaning forward to the elaborate metal railing of the hallway. Three meters away, diagonally behind her was the side entrance to the luxurious hall. Since that door was not closed, the elegant cla.s.sical music mixed with faint laughing noises drifted past to her ears.

However, the woman's mind was playing the few mysterious happenstances earlier.

She planned to probe that man out first through a face-to-face meeting, hence, she sent a subordinate to bring her that person, of course, through a polite invitation. To her surprise though, the a.s.sistant went back to her without the famed actor in tow, confessing with cold sweat running down her spine that she indeed met Chris Meyer but couldn't explain why she came back alone. The a.s.sistant did not follow up after, most probably fearing to be fired. Amelia thought back to this incident as a weird incident since she was aware of her people's competency.

As an intelligent and perceptive woman, Amelia noticed a few odd things about her perfectly fine a.s.sistant who left in good shape but returned slightly disoriented.

'... Blackmailed?'

The woman in an elaborately designed red gown bathing under the soft multi-color glow of the gla.s.s lamp nearby folded her arms underneath her chest. She never considered whether the a.s.sistant was under mind-control or not since the matter was just so far-fetched for a regular and realist lady like her.

'It seems that a.s.sistant will have to say goodbye to me then. A pity.'

She lightly shook the red liquid in the wine gla.s.s before bringing it near her equally red lips. She chugged the red wine until only half of it remained.

When she turned around to lean her back to the bal.u.s.trade, she happened to take a glimpse of Sofony Silver speaking with that Mrs. Alfonso who she had just recently had a fallout with.

Mild irritation crept up on her delicate face. She didn't bother veiling it since n.o.body would see her from this angle. Also, she was currently alone.

It didn't take long for her displeased expression to change into a curious one. She carefully looked at the handsome and indifferent face of the man who appeared near Sofony Silver, her hazel eyes automatically filtering out Alessa who was next to him.

One corner of her lips tugged up. She parted her exposed immaculate back from the cold railing.

She thought to herself that it couldn't be helped. Amelia marched back into the gigantic hall glittering with dazzling lights, thinking of how to get the man to meet her.

...

Ten minutes later...

After sacrificing a part of her layered dress sleeves to some splashes of fruit liquor in a staged collision, she finally managed to have Chris accompany her to a break room. Of course, not without receiving a frosty glare from the other. She honestly admired the guts of the man as he was the very first actor to do so.

She must admit, the experience was refres.h.i.+ng. But does he have the rights? She wondered, an amused smile never leaving her crimson petal-like lips.

"... I was not informed that even the elder sister of our Queen of Primetime is an excellent actress..."

Coldness seeped out of the man's eyes and for a split-second, Amelia Morgan felt as though she saw a tall behemoth staring down at her. Her lashes batted down a few couples of times. The pressure emitted from the handsome actor's body didn't seem forced or faked.

The personal attendant by her side seemed offended but the woman herself unconsciously smiled, the mole under her left eye looked so enchanting. "Mr. Meyer must be jesting. First and foremost, I am a businesswoman. Everything I do is business and for the sake of business."

Chris merely looked at her, listening. The feeling of interest in this accomplished junior stayed in her heart. But she was not aware that the man before her was actually internally debating whether to mind-control her or erase her memories of this talk.

Amelia maintained her professional smile. "Please forgive my rudeness, Sir. I know this meeting is abrupt, but allow me to express my sincerity by not taking up much of your time anymore."

Chris glanced down at his wrist.w.a.tch, indifferently replying. "Since that is the case, I won't be polite and take up your offer. May you please explain your reason for arranging this meeting within a minute?"

'Look at this little man. Good-looking but not cute.'

The twenty-nine years old woman gave him an amused lop-sided grin. "Alright." She straightforwardly said. "The truth is, my business with you has something to do Alessa. I heard that my sister is one of the victims of the recent events. But due to our previous cold war, even though I want to make up with her and see how she is doing, she wouldn't let me."

He didn't react to her mention of the 'recent events'.

Amelia ignored the obvious show of lack of interest of the other and added, "I believe you are quite close to my sister. So may I request you to arrange a meeting between us, or at least pa.s.s my intention for a meetup to Alessa?"

"I'm not close to her, so my sincere apologies. If I may say, if you really want to do what you said to me, the person you should be approaching is Ms. Morgan herself and not me."

Amelia acted helpless, her sight falling onto the red-carpeted floor. "If only that is easy."

In front of her, the man showed a bored look, his face apparently broadcasting to the world that he was barely enduring their idiotic and senseless discussion. He stood up and bowed.

"My sincere apologies again. But I'm merely a man with no friendly contact with anyone from the company except my employer and manager. Now, if you may excuse me. I hope this meeting will write off that 'coincidental accident' from our minds."

Amelia watched the actor retreat from the room, playing to her memory what she managed to find out from this encounter. From the outside, it indeed appeared like a nonsensical talk between them. But in that short minute-long conversation, she had inferred at least something.

Chris Meyer, who seemingly rose to prominence through sheer hard work and talent in the past three years, was actually not the regular typical s...o...b..z man. t.i.tled king or not, it should still be not an easy feat to withstand her aura and piercing stares. And even if it was a coincidence, then why was he so calm and disinterested even after she mentioned the 'most recent events' which he should've been part of as one of the supposed victims?

Of course, those were not enough ground for her to suspect him as a hidden hacker. But the possibility still exists.

She would have loved to poach the person from Sofony were it not for the inopportune timing, and the lack of leash she could use to bind him to Dazzle. A pity. Even if Chris Meyer turned out not what she and that person were presuming, she would still hate to leave such an interesting and fine male specimen under her rival company.

".... Whatever, at least I have gained something out of this."

Amelia remained seated on the one-seater furry sofa and elegantly crossed her flawless legs.

The First Miss of the Morgans leaned her back leisurely with her arms also crossed beneath her bountiful chest. However, despite her currently domineering yet lazy posture, she actually had a thoughtful look on...

...

When Chris walked out of the luxurious breakroom, his already dark face blackened more.

On the left side, next to the wall where the cream-painted door was, leaned a bejeweled woman in a long velvety forest green body-hugging dress. Her hair was in an elegant updo, with some curly strands framing up her very beautiful face.

Unfortunately, no matter how pleasing her look was to the eyes, her appearance right outside where he met an enemy was not a welcomed fact.

Sofony's laughter traveled to his ears, along with a teasing, "h.e.l.lo! It's nice to see you here. How did the talk between you and Miss Morgan go?"

Instead of answering, he deemed it better to walk past her and then excused himself from the host just so he could retire for the night... If only the persistent woman would let him...

'd.a.m.n.'

The man was quite preoccupied to notice, but a dozen meters away from his spot, a pair of emerald-like hazel eyes were intently watching them, the dazzling hues somehow darker and more clouded than usual...
