133 Awareness 1

In her case, she not only wanted to make him stay in her life. Because she was also seeing him as hers, she didn't want anyone hurting him or badmouthing him. No girl would like her man to be criticized or insulted by any random person.

"You did well," he said when they were finally in the car. The man complimented her performance in the hall because even though she initially did not know she would be partic.i.p.ating in it, she managed to carry herself with poise from the beginning to the end. For him, Sofony did well because she not only withstood the judging gazes of those questioning why someone not in business attire was inside the conference room, she also dealt with the issue regarding the schemed proposal.

Though actually, the true reason for his appreciation was her cold treatment of that annoying b.a.s.t.a.r.d...

Sofony shook her head and looked straight into Gio's eyes. "No. I think I messed up because it's me who caused you to be questioned by that Marc Goldwin. I also showed anger in front of that woman. But you... You are amazing...as always..."

An amused grin appeared on his face. Unbeknownst to her, he was wondering whether she'd be thinking the same once she founds out what punishment had really befallen Mr. Miller.

Out of a sudden, he remembered some of the pictures that popped up in his head when he saw her being pestered by that guy. He really hated the feeling which got into him thus he said, "Don't get near that moron again," referring to Marc. "He's a good businessman and a former special agent, but outside of that, his brain is full of water. He's someone okay talking about business with. But if the topic is not that, it's better to not talk at all."

He paused and turned his head to her. "His fiancee is different, though. Amelia Morgan is a very competent woman."

The girl nodded at the first part, thinking that pest was really someone with loose screws in the head. What he did was just beyond a no-brainer. After all, who picked up girls in that manner? Even if he wanted to go the infamous 'the more you hate, the more you love' route, couldn't he first consider whether that girl's heart was already taken or not? If he couldn't, how about he think of his reputation and his fiancee first? He was someone already engaged, so where was he getting the guts to chase after another's girl? Sofony hoped he'd learn his lesson once he discovers that the way women look at him had changed.

As for the latter part of what Gio said...

'He praised that Amelia Morgan?'

Sofony froze in the pa.s.senger seat of the car, not liking the sudden pang of pain in her chest. It just hit her out of nowhere when that thought dawned to her.

The stifling feeling grew worse when he added, "Among the businesswomen in the country, she's at the very top. With or without taking her fiance out of the picture, she's the type which people deemed as someone who should only either be befriended or not make enemies with. Anyway, that woman is a workaholic who is always buried in works, so she's less likely to partic.i.p.ate in social gatherings. There will be less contact between you and her. But if you'll dabble in the business world in the future, you can try to study her strategies."

"You have such a high opinion of her?" she asked. In her mind, she was also dying to add, 'You know so much about her?'

He nodded, explaining, "Because her talents and insights in business are good. Fortunately, she ended up engaged with that Marc so there'd be someone putting a collar on that dog-hater's neck. At the same time, that dog-hater will be helping me distract that compet.i.tive woman."

For a few seconds, Sofony was only blinking at him, silent because she was busy bothering the system to give her information about the other woman. She was wondering, 'What made this Amelia great?' She couldn't extricate herself from this question because Gio seemed to acknowledge this female elitist.

She didn't need to wait long for the answers to arrive. Answers which became questions that put in her in a daze.

So this Amelia was the queen of the business world? Richest bachelorette of Alina City? Owner of the biggest Entertainment and Modeling Company in the country? CEO of a world-acclaimed Apparel brand?

A she-version of Gio Albarez as they said?

It then began to preach that without the system, she would have never had a chance to experience standing in front of those higher-ups or stand next to a Gio Albarez and be recognized as a daughter of a fairly influential family. It enumerated every reason it could think of why she was nothing compared to Amelia.

However, Sofony was too preoccupied with something she couldn't name, so she didn't respond to it. Anyway, the girl already understood what it wanted to tell her long ago so instead of having herself be incensed by its words, she only told herself that she couldn't let things continue this way.

'No! He's the only one I have. I can't lose him too!' she thought as she secretly bit her lower lip.

'That Amelia is luckily already engaged to someone.'

'But what if in the future, someone as excellent or more excellent shows up? When that happens...'

'No, I can't let that happen! I have to change once and for all! So I could stay with him without feeling inferior, without being a burden to him!'

'I have to be the only woman he would ever admire!'

The two chatted a bit along the way, but within Sofony's mind, she was already etching the last as another must-to-do to ensure that no one or nothing takes Gio away from her. In fact, she was already allocating some points to her Managerial skills and planning how she would build up herself in the corporate world... Also, she was planning to further her knowledge in all disciplines which she and her new parents would deem practical, combat and self-defense included.

Sofony rarely fought for something before. All her life, she had been a docile nerdy who only recently learned to get out of her imaginary sh.e.l.l. But this time, since she no longer wanted to lose anyone or anything, she'd fight! The fight she'd started with Clarissa was different because that was for her life. This time, it was for her heart and mind!

As she stared at Gio who was giving her the usual smile, she secretly told herself, there'd better be no other women trying to get in between them in the future. There'd better be no vixens and foxes appearing before her and Gio.

There'd better be!

Because she would no longer let what was hers to be taken away and she didn't know what she would do to those who'd try to do so!
